1. New Document dialog: trim safety margins

   Print ads have trim, bleed, and safety margins on the inside of the page. Add the ability to define the safety margin in the New Document dialog. It would be better than using Margins and Columns.

2. Instead of allowing objects to leave the pasteboard, just move them to the edge of the pasteboard

   I often place and then resize images in InDesign. Very often when I go to resize an image, I get the error "This would cause one or more objects to leave the pasteboard" and I can't actually resize all the way down to a manageable size—I have to move the entire image somewhere random and try to resize, or just resize in increments, move the image, and resize again.

   I understand that I don't want objects to leave the pasteboard. But if an object is about to leave the pasteboard, why can't it just move to the edge of the pasteboard instead?

   Anchored objects can have a setting where they are not allowed to leave the column boundaries on the page. It seems like there should be a way to make objects not be allowed to leave the pasteboard regardless of its XY coordinates. If the user tries to set XY coordinates (or makes a change that would also change the XY coordinates) to something outside of the pasteboard range, the XY coordinates of the object should instead be set to just inside the pasteboard range.

3. Great new palettes

   I like Adobe add great features to InDesign:
   1- Ligature Manager: to enable \disable specific ligature(s) in a document, since Unicode and opentype revolutionized the typography abilities.
   2- Kerning Manager: to enable \disable specific kerning pairs in a document, since many non-latin font metrics are badly calculated.
   3- Equation Editor: for maths, chemistry… etc.
   4- Footnote Improvement: to enable user to add marginal footnotes, put footnote in columns… etc.

4. Add a tab feature that automatically sets even spacing between words or blocks of text

   When creating forms, I often have a line of text where I need to break the line into individual words or groups of words, similar to placing them in columns, but it's done using tab stops. It would be great to have a tab feature that lets you automatically set the tab distance between each word group so that the spacing between each word group is consistent. Right now it has to be done manually setting multiple tab stops on each line, which is time-consuming.

5. Text Frame Row Options

   Right now, text frames in Indesign only allow you to divide into columns. It should also give to divide into rows as well

   In Illustrator, for text frames you have this option. See screenshot.
   You can do it with by creating a table, but you cannot make it reflowable like a normal text frame.

   It would be a fabulous feature have.

   Please do same for Indesign, PRETTY, PRETTY PLEASE.

6. Changes to the review tools

   First, I'm using ID 15.1.3 and I cannot upgrade at this time. Not sure how much of these ideas would be resolved by upgrading.
   -Is it possible to make pins and pencil lines transparent? There are two ways I can think of: a percentage slider just like alpha control in color settings, or a three point switch: hide/semisolid/solid. Either way I would like to see this as a control for each comment so you can choose it individually. Right now the pin or pencil line blocks the art somewhat, which is where the transparency would be handy.
   -Right now, you can move a pin and rewrite a comment, but other edits are not possible. Here is what I would suggest: select a menu item or button for 'edit' in the comment you want to change, pick the tool you want to use. The marking for the old comment is 'greyed out' while you make the new marking. Use a cancel button to go back to the old marking or confirm button to use the new marking, with the text of the comment fully retained.
   -The option to use a 'crosshair' precision pin. Why is the current pin a pixel block anyway? Or is that just a redraw bug?
   -I previously suggested (in the wrong place) that comment markings could be inserted into an exclusive layer. Now I think they could be better served if they are treated like guide rules. Or better yet, offer both options.

7. Table option to disallow breaking across pages

   I would like to be able to specify that a table should not break across columns, frames or pages. It could be an option in the Table Options ('Keep entire table together') that could then be specified in the Table Style. Alternatively, if it's easier, I'd be happy with the existing Cell Option 'Keep with next row' to be available as an option to set in the Cell Style, and I could then apply the appropriate cell style as the basic cell style in the Table Style. This would be much easier than manually selecting each individual table and applying 'Keep with next row' to all cells.

8. Allow the paragraph shading to 'knock out' paragraph border in some way for more usefullness

   If I specify a border & use just the 'top' as a horizontal rule with the idea to have it appear only on either side of a line of text, there isn't an option to do that or for the shading to knock-out the 'border' or have one in front of the other so it would be handy to be able to specify that one is on top of the other & the option to knock it out or a gap size. I've achieved the desired effect in the 2nd image with a white stroke but that doesn't work well if there is a 2nd line of text - as it starts to white out the top line & then you can't get enough of a gap between the first & last words on that line.

9. Hanging Punctuation needs to include more characters and be customizable #Optical Margin Alignment

   Many people need more characters to hang when Optical Margin Alignment is turned on than what is provided by default. This panel should have settings to customize from the default. The workaround to add a space before the character you want to hang and then adding a huge amount of negative kerning, works, but seriously that's all we've got? That is not a real solution, nor is it efficient for multiple instances in multiple documents worked on by multiple people every week. The time used fussing with this alignment must add up to dozens of hours per month, just within our small group. This feature really needs attention. For example:

   In typography, a reference relating to the main body of text, positioned at the bottom of the page. Footnotes are referenced by certain symbols (*, †, ‡, etc.), letters, or numbers, most often in superior or superscript form.

   A footnote begins on the same page as its reference call, but it may be carried over to the bottom of successive pages. A short rule or additional space should separate the footnote from the text. The first line of each footnote is normally slightly indented.

   Point sizes for footnotes are usually 7- or 8-point. By law, footnotes in financial forms, annual reports, prospectuses, and other SEC documents must be no smaller than the text size, which is 10-point.

   The most common sequence of footnote reference marks is: 1. asterisk (), 2. dagger (†), 3. double dagger (††), 4. paragraph symbol (¶), 5. section mark (§), 6. parallel rules (||), 7. number sign (#). If more are required, they can be doubled up: double asterisks (*), double single daggers (††), double double daggers (††††), etc. However, when many footnotes are used, it is more practical to use consecutive numbers to identify each footnote.

   The Story panel could have options such as "include all characters defined as punctuation in this font" or "only include characters defined as punctuation in this font" and even the ability to define your own list of characters. The characters defined as punctuation are already "known" to InDesign, see the Glyphs panel. It must be possible to link this definition that InDesign already "sees" to Optical Margin Alignment in the Story panel.

   I know this feature was not developed for lists, but it could be very useful for lists with these improvements!

11. Ability to create a custom Glyph

    I need to insert in text symbols that appear on products - I have the symbols as an image which can easily be converted into bitmap/eps or whatever is needed in Photoshop.
    It would be nice to be able to great a custom Glyph set and create your own library of regularly used symbols - I have about 200 of them from the technical writing I do. Inserting them and getting them to "stay put" is very time consuming and it would-be much easier if they worked just like putting in a symbol from a wingdings font or similar. It would also mean that if you changed font size the glyph would also change.

    It's a problem thats becoming more acute for me as more and more buttons on products are becoming symbol only due to globalisation of products is happening (same product to all markets.) A couple of the ones I need regularly are attached. It would also make getting these into a table which is often 14 columns by up to 200 rows with a symbol in each cell so much easier to format and resize to use else where. I regularly work at 8pt for small printed books and 12 pt for ebooks. No matter what you do with hem as graphic they do not scale well.

12. Add table formatting with cell style rather than replace all existing formatting

    When doing financial table I need to added extra space or strike to rows while also adding fills to some columns, also some columns have different text style eg Bold, Italic etc.
    With Cell Styles they override the existing formatting.
    I would like to be able to add these as a Cell Style to a row without replacing the existing format . This would be a bit like a nested style.

13. Better use of tags to create a barrier-free PDF with InDesign

    Hello Adobe InDesign Team

    for accessibility I have to use TAGs in PDFs. I creat my PDF out of InDesign and InDesign has already some features to add TAGs and structure to a PDF when exported but some features are buggy or incomplete so the PDF has to be revised manually, which is a big disadvantage especially when there are changes in the original InDesign file later.

    So here some of the most imported things I would changes to make this process easier.

    1. Add PDF/UA-1
       A barrier-free PDF need the PDF/UA-1 Note in the XMP-Metadata. I can only be done via Acrobat by now. (see PDF-UA-1.jpg)

    2. Add custom alternative text to „all“ link-TAGs
       Every link-TAG needs an alternative text to be barrier-free. By now you can only add custom alternative texts to links-TAGs that are created via the hyperlink window. But InDesign creates also link-Tags for other elements where you can not add an alternative text. This is the case if you

    3. create a table of contents with InDesign

    4. use end or footnotes

    5. use cross-references

    6. Missing Tags in the Paragraph Styles tag export setting
       In the Paragraph Styles setting under Tagexport is no option for a caption tag or a quote tag:

    7. Undefined path object
       If I use graphical effects for texts or tables (drop shadow, colored underline for text, colored text box, line between table rows…) this path objects are not tagged when exported. They need to be tagged as arte fact.

    8. Tabel, TH not THead , TD not Body
       InDesign exports tabels with wrong tag. The tag for a table head is TH not THead. The tag for a table cell is TD not TBody. Also you need to be able to be more precise to define what cell is a TH in a tabel and what cell is TD. Also you have to be able to define if TH in a column refer to TD in a row. See tabel-head.

15. Last Sentence Nested Style Option

    Add an option that will allow you to set up nested text at the end of a paragraph in addition to the beginning of paragraphs. Our magazine bolds the last sentences in one of columns and this would be a big time saver.

    Does including a GREP Style in your Paragraph Style to detect the last sentence in a Paragraph work? You can then automatically apply a Character Style to it.

16. Have two systems of unit measurement operate simultaneously, depending on feature and function

    I would like InDesign to operate simultaneously in two unit of measurement systems. I would like to be able to work and view typographic measurements such as point size, leading, paragraph spacing, baseline shift, and drop shadow amounts in Picas/Points; but at the same time see my page size, margins, object dimensions, column widths and such displayed in inches, or mm, or even pixels, according to my need. I don't want to have to switch back and forth to easily SEE and reference measurements in control panels. I want some to display in one system, but others to display in a different system, and I want to be able to have some control of which unit system to use in various functions.

    I would like InDesign to operate simultaneously in two unit of measurement systems. 17. Save current document as a preset

    It would be a better way to save presets, when a preset can be saved from the current document the user is working on. And then a dialog should appear to choose which settings should be included e.d. Document settings, grids, margins & columns, Parents, Styles, ...

    The current way is quite useless.

18. Make Color Books available under Window menu, like in Illustrator

    I can no longer view Window > Swatch Library > Color Books. This now missing function allowed me to view/choose Pantone and other color books PLUS opened a window with all the swatches at once, just like Illustrator does.
    Please reinstate this feature! of viewing the color book swatches arrayed in rows/columns in a scrolling window. See attached screenshot for how it used to look (matches how it works in Illustrator).

19. Make gradients constant within the same table.

    Gradients within table cells change direction when the rows are adjusted. If the columns are adjusted the gradients stay the same, why not the rows? It's extremely timely having to constantly fix the gradients within the cells if I have to adjust the rows in any way. The gold row gradient at the top is correct but after adding a row to the grid I have to manually manipulate each cell to get the gradient right.

20. Easy Paste/Replace images

    Normal behavior of clipboard handling (Copy/Cut & Paste), is that the content of the clipboard replaces the selected items. E.g: Copy a piece of text (to the clipboard), select another piece of text, choose Paste, and the selection is replaced by the contents of the clipboard.
    But, unfortunately, InDesign breaks this rule, when trying to replace the content of an image frame.
    It is not able to Copy the content of a frame, and replace the content of an other frame. We first have to remove the old content, and then choose 'Paste Into'. Why not make it intuitive like any other clipboard operation?

    Normal behavior of clipboard handling (Copy/Cut & Paste), is that the content of the clipboard replaces the selected items. E.g: Copy a piece of text (to the clipboard), select another piece of text, choose Paste, and the selection is replaced by the contents of the clipboard.
    But, unfortunately, InDesign breaks this rule, when trying to replace the content of an image frame.
    It is not able to Copy the content of a frame, and replace the content of an other frame. We first have to remove the old content, and then choose 'Paste Into'. Why not make it intuitive like… more
