1. Removal/editing of the dumb "When in doubt, make a layout" line.

2. Stroke Profile

   Add in Adobe illustrators stroke profiles to indesign. The amount of times I've wanted to do a stroke in indesign with tapered ends and had to open Ai just for that one additional feature of control is too high

4. Persistent Book Panel

   I use Book files often (INDB) and it is very annoying the way the Book Panel disappears from the UI when I close all open INDD files. I have to go to the Window menu and then to the bottom and choose my open Book file to get the Book Panel back. Please could you make the Book Panel persistent in the UI and remember the place that I docked it. That would save me time.

5. Appearance Panel in Properties window

   In the properties window, every-time I open the fill in the appearance panel I have to open any swatch folders, it would be good if it remembered which folders were open so I don't have to open each time. Also, would be handy to have the switch from Text to Frame as icons to the left of that panel, then it's just one selection rather than two.

6. mobile application

   I have been looking at switching to a mobile first workflow for a while now and technology is starting to catch up, which I am super excited about! One thing that seems to be missing is a replacement for InDesign so that I don't have to rely on my Macbook for creating the kinds of documents that you can create in InDesign. It would need to be modernized and have an improved workflow that would be enhanced by the nature of mobile computing devices. I would love to see Adobe get something like this out there soon!

7. Multiple paragraph/character style sheets

   When selecting more than one paragraph of text that therefore uses multiple paragraph styles, instead of saying (mixed) at the top of the styles palette, it would be really helpful if it could highlight which actual paragraph styles were in use. 'Multiple' is of no use - I can see there are multile styles just by looking at it!

9. A feature that lets you copy the actions of a button and past it in another already existing button!

   For example: If you have a button with the actions: Go to next page, and make a sound. i would like to see a feature that lets you copy these actions (Go to next page and make a sound, or any other action) without physically copying the whole button but only the actions within the button and paste it into another already existing button.

   If you have a button with the action: make a sound when clicked, and you want to have all the other buttons to have the exact same action as the button with the sound, you have to go to every single button, set up the action and choosing the sound. But it would be so much easier if it was able to copy this action and past it into all the buttons! It would save a hell of a lot time and it would really improve InDesign!

10. Have Type Colour always available to select/change

    Please can we have the Type Colour always available to select and change, rather than being hidden secondary to the Fill Colour.

    e.g. why is the Type Colour not in the Character panel like Photoshop has.
    why is the Type Colour in the main horizontal Control Panel not NEXT to the Fill Colour? ... Why do you have to click Fill Colour then T then select the Type Colour??? ... the same for the Swatches Panel - why is the Type Colour secondary to the Fill Colour.

    The same problem also goes for Stroke colour ... why can't the Stroke Colour be NEXT to the Fill Colour??

    The way it is at the moment is a complete waste of time.

    This is a default keyboard shortcut for all application to type Indian rupee symbol and Microsoft has released a patch for the same.

13. Allow footnotes start not on the same page as their marker

    Indesign is strictly forcing the rule that a footnote should start on the same page where its footnote reference is located. While this is usualy helpful, sometimes it creates problems like large white areas or even complete inability to layout the text.
    See for example the images below. Image 1 shows how indesign can't put any text and leaves white pages - actually the layout stops here and no text is viewable on next pages.
    Image 2 shows the reason: there are 2 footnote markers on the same row, both with long texts on the footnotes. so when the text of footnote 3 exceeds current page, ID has to put the rest of the row on this page, with the marker for footnote 4, but the content of footnote 4 has to appear on next page!
    So my suggestion is to add a checkbox on the footnote options dialog box allowing footnotes not to START on the same page as their marker. (there is already a marker for "allow split footnotes". this is not enough to solve my problem)

14. New document window of Indesign CC 14.0.1

    Make the new document tabs (Recent, Saved, Print, Web, Mobile) movable.
    I used the saved tab all the time and its frustrating to see recent tab show up as default. It would be nice to have an option of which tab you want to show first as default.

15. make fonts go back to having bold and italic versions

    (rather than 'heavy' and 'regular italic' or 'oblique' etc) so that we can use shortcuts to apply them

16. PDF - importing Enhancement in Draging

    Please try to include Import Options dialogue while dragging a PDF file to Document rather than Menu option and Place. Since we using multi-screens and Mac OS, it will be a very useful option.

18. Artifacting Master Page Items—accessibility

    Within the past year, Adobe InDesign changed the way it handles items on a master page when the file is exported to accessible PDF.

    We used to be able to control each MP item and designate whether it was artifacted or kept live and tagged in the PDF reading orders. BUT, in recent versions of InDesign, EVERYTHING on the MP is automatically artifacted and we have no control over this.

    This fowls up workflows where some MP items must be kept live, tagged, and in the PDF's reading order, such as the project I'm working (series of fact sheets for a university) where the organization's name and contact into is repeated (hence, on a master page) and needs to be kept live and tagged (not artifacted).

    Give us back our control! Although most MP items should be artifacted, it's not ALL MAP items should be artifacted. Let us keep some items tagged and control their reading order in the PDF.

    "Releasing" the items from the MP when I'm on the document page isn't the solution; it defeats the reason why we have MP in the first place.

    And fixing the problem after the PDF is made isn't a solution, either.

    Solution:
    1) In each Master Page's options, give us a checkbox option to artifact everything on that MP or not, and
    2) Give us back our "granular" control to artifact frames (Object Export Options) and text (Artifact in Export Tag settings).

19. Auto disable Preview when saving data merged file

    When previewing a data merged file, you can't save it as you get an error message saying you need to disable the preview. Why can't it do it automatically, allowing you to save. It's slightly annoying!

20. Please allow placed PSD layer blend modes to carry over into InDesign

    We build 2-layer Photoshop files for product images. Top layer is product image set to NORMAL blend mode. Bottom layer is shadow of product set to MULTIPLY blend mode. When placed in InDesign the shadow layer does not carry over multiply blending. It knocks out anything under it in InDesign file. Our work around is placing two copies of the PSD file on top of each other. We then have to set the bottom image to Multiply with top layer turned off in Object Layer Options. Then the top image needs to have shadow layer turned off in Object Layer Options. Both are then grouped together. If InDesign would just carry over the multiply properties of the layers, it would greatly reduce amount of work, InDesign file size and potential for errors when updating PSD file link. Please make this happen for the good of mankind.
