1. Generative AI - Alt Text and other AI Features

   These features should be turned off by default. Most users do not want generated content being automatically inserted into production documents without review or approval. If users do want AI assistance, it should be opt-in, with clear choices such as:

   Generate descriptions for all images
   Generate descriptions for selected images only
   Approve descriptions on a case-by-case basis

   I do not think automatically inserting generated content into live production files is a good approach.

   In real-world workflows especially regulated, accessibility, publishing, legal, pharmaceutical, or corporate environments every word often needs to be reviewed, approved, and sometimes audited. AI-generated alt text can absolutely be useful as a starting point, but it should never silently become part of the document unless the user explicitly accepts it.

   There is also the risk of inaccurate, inappropriate, misleading, or non-compliant content being introduced into documents without the user immediately noticing. That could create serious problems for regulated workflows, accessibility compliance, approvals, translations, and version-controlled production environments.

   AI should assist the user, not bypass existing review and sign-off processes.

   Thanks for the detailed feedback on this thread. Reopening it, because we're still actively working on the issue. A few updates:

   Relinking: the case where manually entered alt text was overwritten by generated alt text on relink was fixed in 21.4. If you're still seeing manual alt text get overwritten after relinking, reply here with a sample file and your InDesign version and we'll investigate directly.

   Remove all generated alt text: an option to remove all generated alt text from a document in a single action is on the way.

   We hear the wider feedback here too, and we're keeping this open while we work through it.

2. Remove all alt text

   Like everyone, I was affected by the recent bug masquerading as a feature that added a ton of unwelcome AI alt text to every image that I didnt ask for and don't need. Now I have to go through image by image if I want it all out? One of these documents has over 2000 links. I NEED a way to remove all alt text easily. I didn't want it to begin with! Shameful this "feature" shipped at all, let alone without an easy undo! Are you THAT desperate to get your AI adoption number up? Guess so!

3. Extendable New Hyperlink dialog

   Many hyperlinks are too long to fit the destination URL box (see example) - which means they cannot be proof-read in the dialog box. Introduce the ability to resize the dialog box so that the full URL is visible.

4. Add "First Paragraph Options" within Paragraph Styles

   Feature Request:
   Introduce a new section within Paragraph Style Options called "First Paragraph Options" (similar to how "Drop Caps and Nested Styles" works). This would allow users to define specific formatting rules that apply only to the very first paragraph in a consecutive sequence of paragraphs sharing the exact same style.

   The Problem:
   Currently, when a style is applied to multiple consecutive paragraphs, any formatting specific to the opening paragraph requires creating a separate, dedicated paragraph style.

   A classic example is book typesetting:

   • The first paragraph of a chapter or section should not have a first-line indent, while all subsequent paragraphs should.
   • Long block quotations spanning multiple paragraphs require the first paragraph to have no indent, while the following ones do.

   Creating two distinct styles (e.g., "Quote First" and "Quote Body") creates a major issue with layout automation: the "Space Between Paragraphs Using Same Style" option breaks down. Because InDesign sees them as two different styles, it applies the standard "Space After/Before" instead of the unified spacing, forcing manual adjustments or complex workaround styles.

   Proposed Solution:
   Allow a single Paragraph Style to handle the exception for the first paragraph. If the style is applied to three consecutive paragraphs, InDesign should automatically detect the first one and apply the specific overrides defined in the style (such as removing the first-line indent or adding a drop cap), while maintaining the "Space Between" logic seamlessly across the entire block.

5. Expand Support for Typesetting in Arabic and Other Right-to-Left Languages

   My company does a lot of design work that has to do with getting information about public health and safety to audiences for whom English is not a first language. Clear, careful communication of these topics and issues to all people—in their native languages—is essential. It ensures that everyone has the same access to information about their health and well-being.

   When we translate our designs, that often includes languages that read from right to left, like Arabic, Farsi and Hebrew. However, there is currently no reasonable method for working with right-to-left text in InDesign for designers who work with both kinds of text. All the solutions currently available are clunky workarounds. Even with those workarounds, setting right-to-left text is still very difficult, so the margin for error working with text in these languages is still very high. That means the people who speak these languages are more likely than native english speakers to receive inaccurate information.

   One solution is to download the Middle East version of Indesign, but that solution is only temporary because that version of the program doesn't handle Latin characters correctly. You have to constantly uninstall and reinstall the correct version for the language you are working with, which is not a viable option for projects that use both kinds of language.

   Please integrate functionality for right-to-left typesetting in the English (North America) version of InDesign and, in general, expand language support for all languages within the software. I guarantee there are many designers who struggle with this issue but who are quietly putting up with the workarounds. Meanwhile, people who speak languages other than english are less likely to receive reliable, accurate information that is critical to their lives in their own, native tongue.

   "Table Options > Fills > Alternating Fill" is very useful.
   However, if the table spans multiple frames, the next frame may start with the color of the second line.
   This specification is of great significance for instantly judging odd/even numbers in a row, but sometimes it is not desirable if it is simply for visual purposes.

   For example, like the header option "Once per Frame", the next frame/page requests an additional option that allows you to apply the color set as the first line.
   Of course, it covers rows, columns, fillss, and strokes evrything.

7. Package with Smart Compression and Resolution-Based Image Resizing

   Add an optional "Smart Asset Optimization" feature to InDesign's Package workflow that automatically resizes and compresses linked images based on the size and resolution they're actually used at in the document. The feature would create optimized copies for the package while preserving the original files, resulting in significantly smaller package sizes, faster file transfers, and more efficient archiving without sacrificing output quality. 8. Typelock/Copyguard: Protect textfields from textual input. for safer use of keyboard shortcuts

   Nobody want's typo's and as a designer I don't want to be responsible for making them after the client send me their final copy.
   So, a big quality of life feature would be if I could protect textfields from textual input, yet they are still moveable, sizeable, scaleable , etc.
   Usecase: You just resolved all textual feedback and now want to finish the design of the magazine. The fastest way to work is to use keyboards shortcuts, but there is a risk of accidentally type instead of changing a tool.

   In short:
   - Protect textfield from textual input. (with a button or switch as visual cue to turn on and off)
   - Keep textfields editable in scale, placement, rotation, etc
   - If possible text can be selected and changed stylistically.

9. Add context menu for recent files on home/start screen with option for Reveal in Finder

   When a document is open, its tab gets the attached right-click context menu, but on the InDesign home screen, the Recent files shown don't have any context menu at all.

   These items should have context menus, with the Reveal In Finder option at least to avoid needing to load the whole document from my network drive just to find it on disk.

   This would also seemingly be a sensible place to put the "Remove From Recent" option that has been requested multiple times by other users.

10. Back/forward buttons to navigate document

    I'm often working on a specific page and referencing other pages within the document.
    It would be handy to have a back button maybe in the Pages panel to jump back to the previous page viewed.

11. Disable feature annoucements and in app ads

    Please add a simple, consistent option to the preferences of all Adobe desktop apps to permanently disable notifications about additional features and ads within the desktop apps!

    For paying Pro subscribers, it is more than unprofessional to be annoyed by unwanted pop-ups and notifications while working!

    In my opinion, subscribing to the newsletter or getting updates about new features on the home screen is enough to stay up to date.

12. Align to the Top & Bottom of a Text Frame in InDesign [Smart Paragraph Styles]

    I’m working on an InDesign layout and want to align text precisely to the top or bottom of a text frame while keeping the formatting flexible.

    Does anyone have a good workflow for achieving this with Smart Paragraph Styles? I’m especially interested in a method that works consistently when the text length changes.

13. Support Multiple PDF Preset Exports During File Packaging

    The Problem:

    Currently, when finalizing a project, designers must manually run multiple export cycles. We have to export a clean "Proof" PDF (no crops/bleeds) for client approval, and then a "Print" PDF (with crops/bleeds) for the press vendor. Doing this separately for every single job adds unnecessary clicks, wastes time, and introduces the risk of human error (e.g., forgetting to update one of the PDFs after a last-minute edit).

    The Requested Feature:

    Expand the "Package" dialog box settings to allow users to select multiple PDF Output Presets simultaneously via checkboxes.

    When the user hits "Package," InDesign should automatically generate all selected PDF presets and place them directly into the final packaged folder.

    Why This Helps InDesign Users:

    Efficiency:

    Cuts the time spent on manual file handoffs in half.

    Accuracy:

    Ensures both the proof and production PDFs are generated from the exact same state of the layout, eliminating version confusion.

14. Centering Logos Without Considering the ® Symbol

    It’s a small detail, but when a logo has a ® or ™ that makes its overall frame wider, I usually crop out the trademark, center the actual logo, and then undo the crop. I know the difference is negligible, but that’s just how I prefer to align things. Since Adobe keeps adding AI tools to InDesign, it would be nice to have an option that automatically ignores ® and ™ symbols when aligning a logo.

15. Paragraph Rules/Underline Skip Ink

    Can Paragraph Rules/Underlines be updated to have a 'skip ink' feature, similar to how figma works.

    For example, if I wanted to add a rule/underline below the word "example", I could choose for the line to go through the letter p or to skip any descenders adding in a gap to the line.

17. Remove or Disable Share Button

    I need to have the option to Disable or Remove the Share Button. It is constantly running in the background and slows down InDesign significantly. I work in an office where I will never share a document in InDesign and I'm sure there are a lot of people who are in the same situation.

    This has slowed down my work and the other managers are not happy. We are looking at switching to Affinity.

18. ID Plugin App for ChatGPT

    I am an independent author and publisher using Adobe InDesign to prepare books for print and digital publication.

    I strongly encourage Adobe to prioritize an official InDesign integration with ChatGPT. I need a conversational interface that can work directly with an InDesign document, inspect the full layout, adjust paragraph and character styles, manage parent pages, preserve Hebrew and right-to-left text, identify overset text and page-flow problems, update the table of contents, run preflight checks, and help export a print-ready PDF.

    The current InDesign interface has a difficult learning curve for independent writers who need professional book production but are not full-time graphic designers. A ChatGPT connection or simplified AI dashboard would allow authors to explain what they need in ordinary language while retaining InDesign’s professional layout engine.

    This is important to my decision about continuing my Adobe subscription. If Adobe does not provide a practical conversational workflow within the next one to two years, and ChatGPT or another company offers a simpler standalone publishing application, I would seriously consider moving away from InDesign.

    Please treat this as both a feature request and subscription-retention feedback. I would prefer to remain with Adobe, but the workflow must become considerably easier and more accessible for independent authors. Thank you for your attention.

19. MacOS27 use smaller corner radius in smaller windows like tab-settings

    MacOS 27: Apple has changed the corner radius, but also offers to use a smaller radius (keyboard overview panel) and it seems a non-brainer to implement this in menu items like tabs.

20. Add a CAI Content Authenticity panel to let users check image provenance

    It would be helpful to have a CAI (Content Authenticity Initiative) panel in InDesign to allow users to check the "Cr" content credentials on placed images.

    (Adobe is one of the founders of CAI, so it should be implemented in all Adobe tools.)
