  1. A button to convert or set swatches from Coated or Uncoated PMS to the opposite in a instant. Like a master switch.

In Prepress there are 2 sets of PMS swatches, and clients do not know when to use either correctly or use both on the same layout.

We need a master switch to use either/or, and be able to switch between them with a click of a button. I would think this would be a page setting or something.

I have attached a zip containing 2 indesign files, 1 of which has been provided by our client and the other has the UNCOATED swatches converted to COATED for press print.

  2. Toggle settings to Auto Update Links

There is much need for a setting (preferably toggle on/off) for updating of linked files automatically. A lot of companies and designers use InDesign to setup presentations, and it can get extremely time consuming having to manually update links as they change.

  4. Add cell width and heigth to table (or cell) styles

Very often I use tables in multiple pages taht need to have the same dimensions. Being able to do that in Styles would be priceless.

  5. Setting to automatically update links on Open

Allow an option/setting to disable the dialog when opening a document with updated links and if a link has been updated it updates or doesn't update it automatically based upon the User Setting.

  6. Master Page Specify Following Pages

When setting up a long document, there are often opening spreads and then different pages that follow, based on specific master pages. It would be useful to be able to define the master pages so that whenever Master Page A falls, B will follow, defined automatically. Much like paragraph style sheets, where one style always follows the others, you could set it up so that when you define a page with A, then B, C, etc. will be automatically set up.

  7. A check box to Remove Local Formatting in an auto TOC.

You include a checkbox to Remove Forced Line Breaks in the text styles used for the auto TOC so why not one to Remove Local Formatting so the text style can display exactly the way you set it in the TOC styles dialogue. Now one must select all the text and set Character Style to None every time the TOC is updated which is inefficient. Thanks.

  8. Data Merge > Create Tagged PDF checkbox

On Data Marge > Export to PDF just let us select the "Create Tagged PDF".

For example, I have 1300 records, an 8 page document template and have to export 1300x 8pp uniquely named PDF files - files names from data.

    Currently have to:
    1. run the merge in groups of 100 records otherwise InDesign will hang
    2. create tagged PDFs from the 13x 800pp InDesign files (50 minutes per 100)
    3. combine PDFs
    4. create bookmarks from content
    5. split by bookmark structure

Points 1, 2 and 3 could be combined by simply allowing "Create Tagged PDF" and save…

  9. Allow default stroke alignment to be "Inside" even if default stroke is zero

I want to set the default stroke weight to Zero and the alignment to Inside. You can't do this. If you set default weight to Zero the default alignment setting is grayed out. So every time I have to add a stroke to a box I have to change the stroke alignment or it increases the size of the box. (If the default stroke weight is anything other than zero you CAN set the default alignment. Setting the alignment and then changing the stroke back to zero doesn't work. The default of Center returns.)

  10. Index / Table of Contents

When creating an Index, you are limited to populate ONLY one Index style format. MS Word, it is greatly inferior program, and yet you can create a General Index, a Index of Cases and Index of Figures. Indesign is the leading industry program for designers and writers, NOT MS word.

What happens if have lots of illustrations, data tables graphs and flowcharts all numbered accordingly. For example, an illustration (Figure 20 or Table 7), maybe on page 40, but there are 40 mentions throughout the document. Thus, in Indesign, you can not create a proper index list every page number…

  12. Enable easy batching of GREP Find/Change queries & expandable 'entry window'

    Hi there,

Rather than rely on third-party software (or convoluted scripts), there should be an option to batch GREP queries together in the Find/Change menu.

Also, it would be nice (for more extensive/complicated GREPs) to be able to expand the window in general (pertaining to both Find/Change's GREP tab and the equivalent menu for GREP styles elsewhere) when entering the expressions.

As an addendum to that last point, at the very least InDesign should have a built in (expandable) panel for copying and pasting complicated GREP syntax without having to worry about certain syntax items disappearing if copied and pasted…

  13. [Scripting] add all find functions to the Page class

    Hi,

Could you please consider adding all find/change functions to the Page class ?

  14. Customizing Numbering Style Format

Sometimes there is a need to use non-standard (for InDesign) formatting of lists (there is a need to use the alphabet of the Cyrillic alphabet or the Greek alphabet or something else). It would be nice to be able to do this.

  15. InCopy needs to have 125% and 175% scaling support.

InCopy is my favorite word processor and works perfectly with InDesign. The one issue is not working properly on 2880x1440 displays and its is due to the lack of scaling options.

  16. Underlined spaces at the ends of lines in running text

    1. It would be nice if, when an underlined space falls at the end of a line in running text, the space "disappears" so that it's underline isn't hanging out in space like a ghost..
    2. It's valuable because it looks weird when an underlined space sticks out beyond the last nonwhite-space character in the line. It's particularly noticeable in justified type, but I think the same principal applies regardless of the justification.

  17. Add a feature that allows you to predefine paragraph style spacing based on which style comes before or after it

I have set up some paragraph styles in my InDesign document that have space-before and space-after set on them. Some of the styles are for headers. When the headers precede a regular paragraph, I want the space to be there, but when they precede another header, I want there to be less space. In web development, I can write rules in CSS that say things like this:

    p { margin-top:10px; }
    h2 + p { margin-top:5px }

I am able to make the margin-top narrower on a <p> tag that is immediately preceded by an <h2> tag, but otherwise, it's…

  18. Implement Chart- and Diagramfunction

Implement a Chart- and Diagramfunction based on a linked XLS.

    Reason:
Technical Data for Products is often managed in XLS and Engineers create all kind of charts and diagramms directly in XLS.
Unfortunately it is not possible to import those XLS-charts in InDesign! There are serveral solutions possible, e.g. via PDF, but these are only "dirty-tricks" and they are all not sustainable at all. In the best case the charts and diagramms look ugly.
While it is possible to link/import XLS-Data, it should be possible to create charts and diagrams directly in InDesign, as Illustrator already does (similar, not nice…

  19. pasting rows into table should add them instead of replace existing one.

When I want to move some rows up or down the table, I must first to add that amount of empty rows in place I want them to paste.

Why the cant be just added above active row in table? It would be much easier.

  20. Allow saving importing and exporting Proof Setup settings (Also include Colour blindness settings)

InDesign is usually the final step in creating a publication where the changes can be made. It is therefore important to view a document, especially if intended for print, with correct proof settings. In Photoshop it is possible to save Proof settings, but in InDesign this is not possible (I wish they were interchangeable)

Comparing Photoshop, Illustrator and InDesign you see that there is less and less possibilities to have control which is ironic because often you would not know the output intent until you come to InDesign, and you may also have assets that are to be used for…
