Why can't the "cell style" control the height of the line in the table?
Why can't the "cell style" control the height of the line in the table?
If the "cell style" can control the height of the line, it will definitely save a lot of unnecessary operations. I wonder why it should be set manually?3 votes -
Indesign 2024: 2024 version files open as Read Only - but only sometimes.
When opening files, created in earlier versions but already opened and saved as newer version, often, but not always, open as READ ONLY. Of course I'm not checking every time I open a file to see if it's read only because I've already updated the file to version 2024 and only realize when I try to save. PLEASE FIX THIS

Character style based running header text variable does not pick up character styles applied by GREP
Problem described in more detail here:

Fixing that bug would make the feature actually useful.3 votes -
Text Variables Do Not Work with Auto-Size Text Boxes
When I create a text box that has auto-size (width only) enabled and then insert a text variable (e.g. "modification date"), the entire text variable is collapsed into the width of a single character. It is as if the dynamic width of the text variable causes a bug in the calculation of auto-size, such that the width cannot be determined, and so it all collapses into the width of a single character instead, with all of the characters rendered one on top of the other.
Very disappointing bug, because dynamic text variables and auto-size are a natural fit for one another.

Color Profile Warnings when copying Objects and Text within the same Document
Mismatching color profile warnings are very helpful when copying objects between documents with different profiles, which is why this is an always-on option for me.
However, for some time now, such warnings seem to pop up randomly when I copy text between documents with the same profile settings, and sometimes even when copying text from one text box to another within the same document.
My understanding is that this is a bug, as live text in an INDD cannot have different profiles. Is there a way to avoid these warnings and still get them when they are necessary (copying between separate documents)?

Hide spread does not work with publish online
InDesign v 19.0 - Publish Online
I welcomed the fairly new 'Hide Spread' option, which is long overdue. But unless this is a bug, I am astonished that the hide spread feature does not work when you use the Adobe Publish Online option!?
I think the initial message said the hidden pages will be excluded when exporting (to PDF I presume), but I assumed it would also work when using the Publish Online option!
But my experience publishing online just now shows me the hidden pages are always included. I changed paste board set-up to 'Digital Publishing' in case that was needed (made no difference), and checked the preferences in case there was a specific option to take up (there wasn't).
Frustratingly a search of Adobe help and Google did not reveal whether this feature should work in Publish Online, or whether it did not.It doesn't sound like a stretch to have that hide spread feature working on Publish Online, and it just seems like an error or massive oversight for it not to be included or referenced.

Window jumps to maximum size in 19.2
Since version 19.2, InDesign's window behavior has been weird and wrong. With each mouse click it jumps to the maximum window size. If I resize the window, the next mouse click will maximize it again. Very annoying. This is only in 19.2. I have a Mac Studio M1 and a 49-inch Dell U4919DW monitor (size 5120 x 1440 pixels), so I don't want to work at the full size of the screen.

InDesign flashes white every time I click on a page
When using InDesign, it flashes white every time I click on it. If I click and hold, the screen become completely white. This is very annoying, almost impossible to work. I cannot highlight anything or draw a marque without getting the white flashing. Even when I'm just moving around a page, it flashes. This is migraine-inducing.
I have InDesign 18.5.1 and there are no updated available, I just checked. This has really slowed down my workflow. I know you closed the previous listing for this, but it's not fixed.
Help!

Installing InDesign 2024 still removes all preferences, shortcuts, and workspaces — even in v19.1
Despite the previous thread about this marking the problem as being resolved, it is not — not even with the latest update 19.1 ... not for me at least. I've uninstalled and reinstalled InDesign 2024 multiple times at this point to no avail.
This is a serious issue for professional users who have very specific settings that take time to create and are necessary for maintaining a consistent workflow between versions.
Please resolve.

rtl paragraphs line break wrong direction issue
In rtl text, I use rtl paragraph direction. when I add \n (forced line break) the remaining part of the text changes direction, unless I change character direction of \n character to "right to left". I use "default" as default character direction of paragraphs.

Select multiple cells in a table that are not next to each other.
Good morning,
When we creating a table in Indesign, it is impossible to select several cells at the same time, if they are not side by side.
There is no shortcut yet that allows you to do this.
This would save a lot of time, being able to change the background color, or font, of several selected cells.
For the moment, we have to take the cells one by one, one by one, one by one, one by one... Not really fast...!Thanks in advance for future updates! :-)

Bonjour,

Share for Review: there was an error updating the artifact. NOT updating!
Adobe InDesign CC 2024
I am working a magazine. The size is pretty large, lots of pictures. I was able to create the Share for Review link, and share it. But I am unable to update. Although, I copy the link, open the address in Google Chrome and my edits show. When I mark a pin resolved, it does not show in my indesign file.

Master page Items on left page missing when overriden on right page's master page when both master pages are based on the same parent
OK, this bug is INCREDIBLY specific, but unfortunately is completely breaking my project. Example PDF below and INDD file in Google Drive folder here:
https://drive.google.com/drive/folders/1teEtxzm5lT5PnwsZ6BKToDpSXgAx4D9d?usp=sharingI'm trying to make a multilingual instructions manual (A4, facing pages, 3mm bleed on all sides) with tabs on the page edges for each language. I have one master page "A-Gabarit" which has all the general layout elements and all the language tabs grayed out, and for each language, I have a master page based on A where I override the one tab for that language to color it black (so the EN master page is based on A and has the EN tab overridden, the FR master page is also based on A and has the FR tab overridden and so on)
What's happening is that depending on how the spread's pages have their master page assigned, some objects dissapear when they shouldn't:
- If both the left and right pages have A master, everything displays fine
- If the left page has A master, and the right has EN master, then anything from A that was overridden in the EN master dissappears from the left page, the rest remains.
- If the left page has EN master, and the right has A master, then everything works fine.
- If both pages start with A master, and any other master page is applied to the right page, objects overridden in the right page's template will dissappear from the left, even though they were there right before. They reappear if the right page's template is switched back to A again.
- Finally, and worst part: if the left page has EN master, and the right page has FR master, objects from common parent A master that were not overridden in EN, but were overridden in FR, will dissappear from the left page, so it doesn't actually matter that the left page has the parent master page or another child master based on the same parent, just that it shares elements from the same parent master page as the right pageThe issue only ever appears on the left page
PDF output is affected, it's not just a display issue.
My workaround, so far, is to duplicate the colored tabs in each child variant on top of the existing one instead of trying to override them, so that the original is preserved and doesn't dissappear on the left page, or alternately, rebuild all master pages with no "based on X" relation and no overrides, defeating the purpose of having master pages based on other master pages (ouch)
I'm guessing that when applying master pages on the right page, InDesign is handling overrides on a spread-level instead of a page level, which is problematic when both pages of a spread are using different master pages based on the same parent master page (this has never been an issue for me up until now). Expected behaviour would be for each page to show their own master page content in any context without interference from the facing page.

[ID-4255452] Text variables with modification date not working when saved to Cloud.
I created a text variable to update the date when the document is modified. When I opened my document in the beta version of InDesign, the text frame for my text variable was empty. I tried to re-enter the variable, and I tried making a new variable. When I selected a variable that included the current date, it would not appear. I created a Modification Date text variable and a custom text variable based on the Modification date. They appeared correctly. I saved the InDesign doc to the cloud. Once I applied a paragraph style, the text disappeared in both boxes.

RTL quotation mark rendering inconsistencies in InDesign v19
In InDesign versions 18 and earlier, the left and right quotation marks for Thaana were interpreted as "start" and "end" quotation marks. However, Microsoft Word and web browsers and most applications interpreted them as "right" and "left" as named in the Unicode specification.
In InDesign version 19, the rendering behaves oppositely (similar to Word, web browsers, etc.), even though the codepoint remains the same. Additionally, some other anomalies are present. For instance, when I use a right/left quotation mark as a bullet point, it renders as the opposite one.
Please refer to the attached recording for another case where I was unable to place a closing (left) quotation mark next to an opening (right) quotation mark.

footnote reference formatting is wrong
The new version 19 and 19.0.1 shows footnote reference numbers incorrectly When paragraph justification is set to Adobe World-Ready Paragraph Composer. It must be set to the basic Adobe Paragraph Composer to work.
The problem is the final digit (if the reference is greater than 9) does not apply the character style formatting defined in the Footnote Options setup, so the last digit is shown as normal.
The same issue happens on running head page numbers with a style applied, but only on the right hand page. It also happens on cross-reference numbers. A workaround is to place a character after the number, which is not always possible.
