1. Bug in Adobe World-Ready Composer for Kannada Language

   Attached are Adobe Indesign document, Scribus (v1.5.3) document, PDF outputs.

   Fonts used: Hubballi available at https://github.com/erinmclaughlin/Hubballi/blob/master/build/Hubballi-Regular.otf

   Tunga: Available in Windows 10 as part of Kannada language pack.

   Scribus uses "Harfbuzz" text shaping engine. It doesn't any issue shaping Kannada text, except for one case; U+0CCD U+200D which is canonical equivalence of U+200D U+0CCD. Harfbuzz has accepted this bug and will be fixed in the next release. https://github.com/behdad/harfbuzz/issues/435 https://github.com/behdad/harfbuzz/issues/341

   Adobe indesign Adobe World-Ready Composer has lots of bugs with shaping Kannada text.

   Please rectify as soon as possible.

2. Text with missing fonts are invisible in InDesign 16.1 macOS Catalina

   Missing fonts in a document were usually showed with a replaced standard font and a light red highlight, so it pops you in the eye directly.
   In the new InDesign 16.1 on macOS Catalina 10.15.7 this feature is suddendly missing for me. The text with the missing font is completely invisible. Just an empty textbox. Just when you klick in it or open the preflight window, there you can see the errors.

   Did I miss some new settings? Sometimes you just want to quickly edit the text and generate the final pdf later. Would be great if can enable this feature again.

3. Batch HTML Export Crashes InDesign 21.1

   Here is a (Gemini 3-assisted) report of an HTML export problem that is crashing InDesign consistently. It's somewhat urgent because crashing InDesign is not good for the nerves. Reverting to 21.0.1 permits the script to run to completion.

   Bug Report: Regression in HTML Export Automation (dvacore::xml / AXE8)
   Subject: InDesign 21.1 (and Prerelease) crashes with EXCEPTIONACCESSVIOLATION in dvacore::xml during iterative HTML Export scripting.
   Summary: Automated workflows that iterate through documents to export HTML (ExportFormat.HTML) fail consistently after processing 2–5 files. The crash occurs during the document closure or immediate post-processing phase of the export. This is a regression. The identical script logic functioning on the same hardware/OS was stable in previous InDesign builds (v21.0) but now crashes 100% of the time in v21.1.0.56.

   Application: InDesign 2026 (21.1.0.56) & Prerelease (21.2) Build
   OS: Windows 11 Pro (Build 26200)
   Hardware: Intel Core i7-12700K, NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3090 (Driver 32.0.15.8157)
   RAM: 64GB
   Crash Signature: The crash consistently occurs in the dvacore module, specifically involving the Expat XML parser used during HTML generation.
   • Exception: 0xc0000005 (ACCESSVIOLATION)
   • Faulting Module: dvacore.dll
   • Key Stack Symbols:
   dvacore::xml::GetParser
   AXE8ExpatTerminate (in AXE8SharedExpat.dll)
   WCrashHandler::operator=
   Steps to Reproduce:
   Create a folder containing 5+ simple .indd documents of two to four pages in length.
   Run the following ExtendScript (.jsx) to batch export them to HTML:

   Observed Behavior:
   • File 1: Exports successfully.
   • File 2-3: InDesign crashes silently or throws the error report immediately upon calling doc.close() or starting the next app.open().
   • Attempted Workarounds (All Failed):
   Forcing Garbage Collection ($.gc()) between iterations.
   Purging Caches (app.purge(PurgeOptions.ALLCACHES)).
   Adding $.sleep(3000) delays to allow file locks to release.
   Running in UserInteractionLevels.NEVERINTERACT vs INTERACTWITHALL.
   Analysis: The stack trace showing AXE8_ExpatTerminate strongly suggests a race condition or resource leak in the HTML/XML subsystem. It appears the XML parser instance created for the first export is not being correctly destroyed or released by the time the script initiates the second export cycle. When the application attempts to re-engage dvacore::xml::GetParser, it hits invalid memory.
   Impact: Batch automation for HTML outputs is currently impossible in v21.1 without restarting the application instance for every single document.

4. indesign 16.1 can't move app windows when MacOS sidecar is activated

   2 more monitors plugged on the computer

   steps

   • plug the iPad om the macbook pro 2016 on macOS 11,2,1

   • open sidecar in the system preferences and connect the iPad

   • open indesign. it opens on the macbook pro screen

   • try to move the inDesign app windows on another monitor

5. Adobe InDesign Server 2021 has stopped working

   With some documents to be (automatically) processed by Indesign Server, InDesign Server stops working - and we get the Windows message "Adobe InDesign Server 2021 has stopped working. A problem caused the program to stop working correctly. Please close the program".

   As after a while our automatic system is picking up the same (possibly questionable) document again, we end up with a system where all InDesign Server instances are hanging, and no further processing happens (until a human being goes to the server and clicks the messages away).

   The issue here is not that the possibly questionable document cannot be processed properly - the issue is that a server process is showing a dialog, as opposed to just aborting execution or even crashing fully (which we could then handle programmatically).

   Long story short: why is InDesign Server, launched from the command line, ever showing a dialog?

   With some documents to be (automatically) processed by Indesign Server, InDesign Server stops working - and we get the Windows message "Adobe InDesign Server 2021 has stopped working. A problem caused the program to stop working correctly. Please close the program".

6. [obj] tag appearing in contents of pdf on Windows

   We sometimes use inline images in section titles that are styles used for TOC generation. These "objects" do not appear in the generated pdf bookmarks, so we type the missing words in by hand. An [obj] tag, however, appears in the bookmarks of the generated pdf when viewed on Windows, even though it is not visible in InDesign (and not visible on Mac). This tag needs to be removed or at least made visible in InDesign.

7. Adobe Digital Editions opens links in unsupported version of Windows Explorer

   InDesign ver. 18.2.1. ADE opens hyperlinks in Windows Explorer, which is retired and out of support. There doesn't seem to be a way to specify a different browser in which to open links. I am using the most recent version of ADE (4.5.11.187303).

8. The UI is not scaling correctly on Windows 4k screens - UI too small

   Hi, I am having problems with the UI Scaling on InDesign on my 4k laptop. I am using the recommended system scaling of 250% which works well with other apps except for Adobe, most noticeably InDesign. I pay a premium price for Adobe CC which should be reflected in their products. The UI is way too small on InDesign compared to Illustrator and Photoshop.

   I also have problems in all adobe apps when using an external monitor to expand my screen size. Dragging the apps from one monitor to the other does all sorts of weird things.

   I have attached images showing the difference of the UI between Illustrator (which looks normal) and InDesign.

9. Inline vector graphics pixelate while typing in high quality display performance mode

   InDesign 14.0.2 on Windows 10

   1) Set display performance to high quality
   2) Paste an EPS or PDF into a text frame as an inline graphic. It should render crisply as you'd expect in high quality mode..
   3) Start typing in the text frame that contains the inline graphic. The inline graphic pixelates.
   4) Click out of the text frame or stop typing for ~10 seconds. The graphic returns to its unpixelated, high-quality state.

   Context: we are upgrading 100 users from InDesign 2014 to InDesign 2019. This worked perfectly well without any pixelation or lag in InDesign 2014, but is significantly worse in InDesign 2019.
   InDesign support advised me that InDesign is working as intended and I should post here if I wanted anything to change. This is not a step forward!

   InDesign 14.0.2 on Windows 10

10. InDesign 18.1 x64 (Windows) - Problem with font Latino URW Regular Italic

    InDesign 18.1 x64 (Windows) - Downloaded Adobe Latino URW fonts from Adobe fonts site - The Regular Italic shows up as Italic in Windows fonts and Word, the others are OK. When placing Word document into InDesign, get missing font because InDesign does not recognize Latino URW Italic, it wants Latino URW Regular Italic. It is a font naming issue. After removing font, restarting computer, and reloading, problem persists.

14. Applying a different swatch not always working (bug?)

    It happens every now and then that changing the color of text by selecting the text with the text tool and clicking on the desired swatch does not change anyting. You can select the desired color, but the text color stays the same. It does not seem to be document related and is not always happening. If you use the color picker to select a random color from the document, the problem disappears.     At this moment I am running ID CC 16.1 on a fully updated 'heavy duty' Windows 10 pc of 2 years old. I cannot reproduce the issue at the moment, because it does not happen all the time and I am currently not experiencing problems (a few days ago I did though, but had no time for posting).

15. Data Merge merges only first record repeatedly

    Using InDesign for Windows v18.5.

    First of all, I TRIED to upload the InDesign file in question to this forum, and get an error message stating that uploading of InDesign files is not allowed. In an InDESIGN FORUM?

    The issue here is the failure of InDesign to properly merge records from a CSV/TXT document. I have a source document (tab-delim text) and multiple fields in the InDesign document. (I am NOT trying to place multiple records per page. It's a single record with multiple tab-delim fields per page.) When I do a preview of the merge, the preview looks perfect, all records imported and in the right place. When I try to export that same merge into a PDF file, it merges ONLY the first record of the data, repeatedly, for the entire merge. I've tried recreating the file from scratch, per other users in other forums, but that doesn't work.

    Using InDesign for Windows v18.5.

16. InDesign task remains active when application is completely closed on Windows

    Steps to reproduce:

    • Currently running Windows 10 Version 10.0.19042 Build 19042
    • Indesign v16.0

    1. Open InDesign
    2. Open any file and make edits.
    3. Close application
    4. Click on InDesign from program list on Windows to reopen

    Problem: InDesign task remains active in task manager when application is fully closed, giving impression that application may either be slow or inaccessible next time the user select applications from their list of programs.

    Expected result: Once the user closes the program, the task appears terminated from task manager, and application can be started the next time user clicks on its icon from the list of applications.

    Additional info: This issue occurs at random occurrences, and it was not possible to attach a screenshot.

    Steps to reproduce:

    This task can only be done by selecting two or more characters.

18. Windows 10 Filetype capture

    I let the Creative Cloud Desktop upgrade me from 2020 to 2021 and uninstall 2020... only the file associations didn't get updated and there isn't a way to select Indesign 2021.

    Maybe have a manual button option you can hit to select default filetypes if an upgrade goes awry.

    Meanwhile what's the quick fix?

    In certain situations, hiding and then showing conditional text changes the applied paragraph style.

20. GREP failure

    InDesign 2019 14.0.2 has created a new bug with GREP. If you search for any character, InDesign jumps half way through the file.
    So, for example, if you click the cursor at the start of the document, instead of GREP finding the very first character that you search for, it instead jumps towards the end of the document.
    So, for example, if you do a search for the letter 'a' in GREP, it will miss most of the document out and find the first one towards the end of the document.
    To confirm this, if you do a search and replace of . to $0 instead of finding all the characters in the document and replacing them with themselves (we use this for finding out how many characters are in a document), in one of our documents it found and replaced 30,000 characters when it should have replaced 500,000 characters.
    This has only happened in this latest update.
