1. "Synchronization completed successfully..." message shows up even if AppleScript's user interaction preferences set to "never interact"

   When synchronizing a book via AppleScript, the "Synchronization completed successfully..." dialog shows up even if the user interaction script preferences are set to "never interact".

   Yes, this message has the "Don't show again" option. However, it's still a bug - because the dialog shouldn't show up at all when user interaction is suppressed.

   On new installations of InDesign or new machine, this message always causes confusion to end users. It means that running the script for the first time will always fail. Users get upset.

   Hope it can be fixed! No dialogs should show up when user interaction is disabled by script.

2. Ability to Add more than One Page at a Time

   I have a "large" technical textbook, in my case 20 chapters and at least 22 indd files, if I wnt to add a page or two to an existing chapter, each time I click the new page icon, it takes a while for InDesign to reassess page and section numbers. Ten clicks of "new page later", it rather timeconsuming.

   How about an option, similar to adding rows/columns to a table, that allows you to specifiy how many pages you would like to add?

   At the moment, adding 10 pages means watching it update section numbers 10 times.

   You can use the ‘Insert Pages…’ option from the Pages panel flyout menu to add many pages at once. You can also specify where you want to add those pages.

3. Drag-Duplicating using Alt/Opt key does not work if key is pressed after dragging

   I am working on Mac OS Big Sur v 11.3.1 using Indesign CS 2020 16.2.1.
   I cannot duplicate images using the command option shift key.
   I have also noticed that holding the shift key down to proportionately size images is also not working. Could you advise if this issue can be solved? I have read the thread posted in 2020 and it said it was under review. I tried the workaround suggested changing live Screen drawing to "never" but this has not changed anything. Please help! Thanks.

4. Step and repeat Bug

   Step and repeat is not working correctly.

   If you have an object, whilst holding option, drag the object to a new position and release, the object is duplicated. This works correctly. If i then select Duplicate from the Edit menu, it should repeat the the last duplication. It does not! It uses the last step and repeat measurement. This is a bug.

   This is using indesign 2019.

   The bug is not in indesign 2018, it works correctly here

5. copy

   Holding down "option" on the keyboard and then dragging a graphic or text box to copy and paste where you'd like it to go no longer works. The cursor changes as if it's going to copy/paste, however, it will just drag the original graphic/text box without copying it. I have to physically hit cmd + c and cmd + v and then it will paste wherever it wants to go in the document to get something to copy and paste. This is really frustrating when trying to design documents with a lot of the same elements in different formats. This has been an issue since updating to InDesign 2021 (16.1)

6. Embedding video and publishing online

   I tried to embed four small videos (first at HD and then at SD) but the online publishing kept coming up with a error #16 message, when I tried to do this. After trial and error, I only managed to upload three videos into the Annual Report I had put together - not ideal at all.

   This would imply that there IS a limitation in terms of file size when publishing online. The overall size of the InDesign file was 23,560 KB.

   The three videos at SD were: 73,907 KB, 156,488 KB, 48,701 KB. The additional SD video that I wanted to include but couldn't was 492,402 KB.

   This is such a shame as the ability to embed video using the online publishing option is such a game changer.

7. Alignment of text box ignores anchored objects

   When I have an anchored object (lets say an image) hanging at the bottom of the text box, aligning the text to the bottom of the text box will align the text only, and cuts off the image at the bottom.
   I imagine this also happens to images at the top of the text box, when aligning to the top.
   I think that by design, anchired objects should be calculated as part of the text box's content, and should be aligned to the bottom, as text would.
   If not, it should at least be an option to choose from.

8. find/change missing from menu (PC)

   I am using Adobe inDesign CC 2018 on a PC and since the most recent update (March 2018), I have lost the Find/Change option from the Edit menu. I have searched all over in case it was moved somewhere else, and also tried different workspaces, to no avail. Old document, new, it doesn't make a difference. Where did this go? I use it all the time. :( The keyboard shortcuts related to Find/Change don't work either. (Spellcheck isn't working correctly either--I posted a separate bug report about that. Are these related issues?)

9. Paragraph and Table palette contents empty/gone

   1. Version of Adobe InDesign, InCopy or InDesign Server
      InDesign 19.0.1

   2. Steps to reproduce the issues
      Open the Paragraph Palette

   3. Expected result
      There is content there, text, fields for adjusting spacing, etc.

   4. Actual result
      There is no content, no fields to enter or adjust spacing measurements

   5. Test file, screenshot, video or GIF capturing the issue (optional)

   p.s. this is fixable by deleting preferences, but I don't want to lose all my preferences. Is there a way to save preferences before deleting them and restore without reintroducing the problem? I will find out.

    Generic check mark reappears in PDF check box after exporting to Acrobat Pro

    InDesign 14.0.2 and Acrobat Continuous 2019.10.20099

    This issue is about the behavior and appearance of interactive check boxes in documents that have been exported to Interactive PDFs.

    There is a difference in the way that check boxes created in InDesign behave and appear versus those created in Acrobat Pro. The Acrobat Pro Forms preferences are involved in this difference.

    When, in Acrobat Pro Forms Preferences, under Highlight Color, the “Show border hover color for fields” option is selected, check boxes created in InDesign behave and appear in the following manner.

    When a check box is made active, it first appears the same as the check box that was created in InDesign. When you tab to or select another check box, or when you save the selection in the PDF, the appearance of the check box reverts to a default generic check mark.

    When, in Acrobat Pro Forms Preferences, under Highlight Color, the “Show border hover color for fields” option is not selected, check boxes created in InDesign behave and appear in the following manner.

    When a check box is made active, it first appears the same as the check box that was created in InDesign and remains as such.

    This degrades the purpose of using the highlighted fields, which is to call attention to fields that need to be filled.

    When the check boxes are created in Acrobat, it makes no difference in appearance or behavior if the “Show border hover color for fields” is selected or not. They always appear as the checkbox style you have chosen to use. They do not revert to a generic check mark.

    This is the way that custom check boxes created in InDesign should behave. Thus, they would allow the use of a highlighted field without the appearance of the “selected” custom graphic changing to an unwanted generic graphic.

11. InCopy: Paragraph Panel Bugs When Placed in Top Menu Area

    I’ve noticed an issue with the Paragraph panel when it's placed in the top menu area of InCopy. The Space After option disappears and only becomes visible when the panel is pulled out or moved to the right-side menu.

    Additionally, the Drop Cap feature behaves oddly in the top menu. It restricts the character selection to a range of 6-150. However, once the panel is pulled out, I can select 1 character as expected.

    Please ensure the Paragraph panel functions consistently in all locations, similar to how it works in InDesign, where I haven’t encountered these issues.

    Also, I couldn’t find a dedicated bug forum for InCopy. When I tried to report the bug through InCopy, it redirected me to the InDesign forums instead.

12. Can't see highlighted input numbers in Medium Interface after upgrading to Mac OS 11.2.1

    I just upgraded my Mac to OS 11.2.1 on Sunday and noticed that when I try to highlight numbers in the medium interface in both InDesign and Illustrator I can't see what I've selected. I think the highlight color is too close to the background color. The attached file shows that Photoshop has an option for "highlight" that is not available in Indesign or Illustrator and I have also included what it looks like when I try to highlight a number. You will see a tiny blue border on the boxes where I have highlighted the numbers.

13. Starting up in "tablet" mode

    I´m beta-testing some Adobe apps both in Mac and PC. (I have also a professional CC-account for my professional user PC) and the present beta version of InDesign doesnt stort up correct in my PC, that is equipped with also "tablet"-mode. (It's Dell i7)

    I have the tablet mode totally disabled but the app seems override this. Buttons on screen are all unfunctional but I can "select" areas drawing with finger on screen.

    The app does not react upon ctrl-Q or other command so the only option is force quitting.

14. Auto-fit label confusing

    The "Auto-fit" option to keep an image's fitting method and cropping position active (as far as possible) while scaling the frame, can be confusing.

    Since the implementation of it, many users are not aware of what it does, because they assume it DOES something (make it fit automatically, right now) in stead of that it will RETAIN its current crop and fit. Especially in Dutch, where it is translated as "Make it fit", which is even more misleading.

    So when explaining what it actually does to many users (as a trainer, presenter) they always sigh...

    Please use a more clarifying label, like "Keep current fit or crop" or "Retain fitting method" ("Houd passend" in Dutch) to let more users know what it does precisely.

15. Right-to-left paragraph orientation causes problems

    Hello and thanks in advance to the respondents.
    For several months now I have been suffering from a very annoying problem in InDesign and I have not been able to find a solution.
    When I set the writing direction from right to left (using the edit menu - right to left), the arrow keys on the right and left keyboard stop responding as they should, and instead of each click the cursor moves one character to the right or left, clicking on them jumps the cursor to the beginning or end of the line.
    The problem only exists when I select the "Visual" option in the above menu.
    Of course, in my Adobe Creative settings, English is set to support Hebrew, and I also noticed that I am opening a text window of the Middle East type, and in the paragraph settings itself, the direction is set from right to left.

16. Stripes in objects that have transparency

    Dear Indesign community,

    I have installed the latest version of Indesign and always have these stripes in those objects that have transparency. The level of transparency does not matter. I set the screen display performance to the highest quality. I've already uninstalled and reinstalled Indesign, but nothing has changed.These stripes can no longer be seen in the exported PDF.I use Windows 11, 64 bit, an Asus G814JV laptop with a 13th Gen Intel(R) Core(TM) i9-13980HX 2.20 GHz processor. 32GB RAM. And an NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4060 graphics card. Indesign version 19.0
    I don't have the option to turn GPU performance on or off in the InDesign defaults with Windows 11.
    GPU performance does not appear in the list of default settings at all. Only Display performance and then Appearance of Black appear.

17. Need Permissioning for File Access and Edit for In Design File. WE should be allowed to set up security to prevent unauthorized access to

    We should be able to create optional security in terms of file opening, file edit and file save/print fo all In Design Files. Permissions should be able to be modified from remote location, if for example a former employee with previous permissions copies file and takes proprietary template. This should be for desk top and remote server accessed files. Especially Server hosted files. I cannot believe this is not possible. Similar to PDF Files which are password protected. In Design files should have same security feature set as PDFs. This is critical and urgent.

18. Verknüpfungen werden nach jeder Aktivität neu aufgebaut // InDesign 17.0 x64 // running on Win 10 Pro

    Aktuell laden sich die verknüpften Bilder nach jedem Doing in InDesign (Also egal was ich mache, Textverschieben, von einem anderen Programm zurück zu InDesign wechsle oder was auch immer, 1 Sache mache ich und schon laden die ganzen Verknüpfungen neu. In den alten Versionen lief das ohne Probleme. Ich konnte ohne Störungen arbeiten. Dies scheint ein BUG zu sein, denn das macht das Arbeiten mit dem neuen InDesign unmöglich. Ich kann nicht jede Sekunde warten, bis sich der Screen neu aufgebaut hat und ich weiterarbeiten kann. Die Bilder komplett auszugrauen ist auch keine Option, da es für unsere Gestaltung wichtig ist, die eingebauten Bilder sehen zu können.

    Gibt es hier evtl. eine Lösung die ich nicht kenne?
    Falls und wenn leider nicht, bitte schickt hier ein ganz schnelles Update nach. In der täglichen Arbeit so nicht nutzbar.

    Aktuell laden sich die verknüpften Bilder nach jedem Doing in InDesign (Also egal was ich mache, Textverschieben, von einem anderen Programm zurück zu InDesign wechsle oder was auch immer, 1 Sache mache ich und schon laden die ganzen Verknüpfungen neu. In den alten Versionen lief das ohne Probleme. Ich konnte ohne Störungen arbeiten. Dies scheint ein BUG zu sein, denn das macht das Arbeiten mit dem neuen InDesign unmöglich. Ich kann nicht jede Sekunde warten, bis sich der Screen neu aufgebaut hat und ich weiterarbeiten kann. 19. Placing MS Word documents

    Hi,

    I am designing a Journal in InDesign with over 50 articles. All the articles are done with MS Word with footnotes etc. After placing about 45 articles I found that in some placed articles the fonts have changed in certain pragraphs. Since I noticed this at the tail end, I did some experiments and placed the next article with the option "Redefine InDesign style" selected and the exact fonts were placed. But to my surprise there are 90 errors in the already placed 45 articles.

    How come InDesign change the structure of the previous 45 articles when I am placing the 46th Article?

    How can I avoid this?

20. provide tool to manage external cross-references

    I am responsible for maintaining and updating a long manual with many cross-references. Most of these cross-references are internal to the book collection, but a significant minority reference specific sections in other books that make up the manual or specific sections in other reference documents external to my organization. The ability to use the cross-reference tools to manage internal cross-references is a godsend. Manually tracking external cross-references, however, is extremely tedious and mistake-prone. Obviously it would not be possible to provide hyperlinks or automatic updating for external cross-references. However, I would still like a way to keep track of them in InDesign.

    I would love for InDesign to provide the following workflow for managing external cross-references:
    1. Provide a way to mark text strings as external cross-references. This could either be within the existing Insert Cross-Reference tool or a separate new tool. Ideally there would be an option to add metadata, such as the title and edition of the external document being referenced.
    2. Provide a way to export an external cross-reference report as .CSV or other table format. This table would list each text string marked as an external cross reference, along with the page number where it appears in the InDesign document and any other metadata defined for that record.
    3. Provide an option to toggle on and off highlighting of text marked as external cross references in InDesign.
