1. Text formatting can break backlinking endnote texts to endnote refs when exported to PDF (Print)

   Hi together,
   to explain the issue:

   Sometimes backling from endnote text to endnote reference number will not work.

   To make it work at all I found the following minimum requirements for PDF export:

   PDF Export (Print)

   Compatibility: Acrobat 5 (PDF 1.4)

   [x] Create Tagged PDF

   [x] Hyperlinks enabled

   Even with that sometimes only linking from the endnote reference number to the endnote text will work, but not backlinking from the endnote number in the endnote text to the reference in the main text.

   What I found:

   If you want linking back from the endnote number at the start of the endnote text you have to be careful with formatting of that endnote number which in fact is a special character.

   WHAT WORKED:

   The endnote is using a paragraph style without any specialities. No overrides, no character styles applied:

   RESULT: No issue with linking back and forth between endnote reference number and number in the endnote text.

   Now I had the idea to format that special character, the number that starts the endnote text with a character style.

   RESULT: Linking from the endnote reference number to the endnote text worked. BACKLINKING DID NOT WORK.

   WHAT BROKE THE BACKLINKING:

   [1] Character style applied through a GREP Style

   [2] Character style applied directly as formatting

   [3] Properties directly applied as overrides without a character style

   WHAT FINALLY WORKED:

   [4] Character style applied as nested style through the applied paragraph style:

   Character style to 1 tabulator character

   I did not test on to eliminate other factors.

   Maybe one of the used properties are the real culprit?

   What I defined in that character style and also tried to apply as character override was:

   Character width and height: 70%

   Baseline Offset: 2 Pt

   Fill Color: "C=100 M=0 Y=0 K=0"

2. Cannot View Baseline Grid in InDesign

   Issue: Unable to View Baseline Grid in InDesign
   1. Version of Adobe InDesign 16.3.2
   2. Followed the steps to correct set up the Baseline grid (attachment 1); also went to View --> Grids & Guides --> View Baseline grid
   3. Expected result is being able to see the baseline grid.
   4. I closed the Indesign file and restarted it. Actual result: Still unable to see baseline grid despite all the settings present.

3. InDesign crashes when mounting/updating another InDesign document with overset text

   InDesign Version: Adobe InDesign CC 13.0.1
   Operating System: macOS High Sierra version 10.13.2
   Computer: MacBook Pro (Retina, 15-inch, Mid 2015)

   Steps to reproduce the issue:
   1. Create a new document in InDesign with at least 3 pages.
   2. Make a textbox on one of the pages (e.g. page 1) and fill it with some text.
   3. Resize the textbox so that some text overset and preflight shows 1 error - overflowing text.
   4. Save and close the document
   5. Create a new InDesign document
   6. Place the InDesign file with the overflowing textbox in the new InDesign document (NOTE: You need to place the page which actually has the overflowing text). You should get an error message that the document you want to place is containing overflowing text. Click OK.
   7. Alt+Double Click / Opt+Double Click on the placed document in order to edit it.
   8. Do some edits in the document, e.g. duplicate the textbox with the overflowing text by holding ALT while moving it. Make sure that you still have overset text in the document.
   9. Save the document, and close it by clicking CMD+W or File->Close. This should automatically lead you back to the document where you placed the document, and InDesign should try to automatically update the placed document with the new content.

   Expected result:
   InDesign should update the contents of the placed InDesign document, and not crash, regardless of whether the placed InDesign document contains overset text or not.

   Actual result:
   In my case, InDesign crashes at the end of step 9 when trying to update the placed document containing overset text. I have attached a screenshot, in addition to the crash reports generated by Apple/Adobe at this time. InDesign shows the following error message (translated from Norwegian to English): "Error: Adobe InDesign is exiting. A serious error occured. Restart InDesign to restore work in any InDesign-documents that isn't archived." It also shows a dialog box which warns you about overset text on pages in the placed document.

   Extra notes and comments:
   If InDesign didn't crash in step 9, you can try to go to the "Links" panel and update the link to the placed document, if it didn't update automatically. In general you should also try placing and updating InDesign documents containing overset text into another InDesign document, and this error should occur eventually.

   In my experience InDesign crashes very often due to this error when using a workflow which requires mounting other InDesign documents, which might contain overset text accidentally. In the workflow that we use, this error is very devastating leading to InDesign crashing up to several times per day (or per hour) in certain periods.

   The error most consistently occurs when doing some changes in a document containing overset text, and then updating it in InDesign, as described in the steps to reproduce the error. However, the error has also occured when placing the document, not just while updating it.

   I have also experienced that this error occurs even when there just are some extra lines at the end of the textbox, so that text technically overflows, but no preflight error appears because the overflowing text is just empty lines/paragraphs. This makes the bug extra difficult to avoid, because the overflowing text could be in any textbox in the document, even though no error is showed.

   This error has occured consistently over several InDesign and OS versions, at least for several years, probably since the feature to place another InDesign document was introduced.

   InDesign Version: Adobe InDesign CC 13.0.1

   Hello All,

   Thank you for your support. The issue is now fixed in the latest update of InDesign.
   Please upgrade to the new InDesign 14.0 from your Creative Cloud Application.

   If you are unable to see the update yet, click on the menu (three dots) on the top right corner of Creative cloud app and click on “Check for App Updates”.

   Let us know if the issue is resolved for you in InDesign 14.0.

4. Overall performance poor

   The program takes 3-4 minutes trying to launch, then quits, generating an unexpected error report. It does this 2 times again before it will open the 3rd time. Making it nearly 12 minutes before it is actually usable.

   Fonts: when a text box or text is clicked or selected, without exception, there is a long delay and spinning ball prior to being able to do anything with the text. Suitcase Fuision 19.1.1 is the font management program and they claim the problem is with Adobe.

   Paste in place: sporadically the "paste in place", doesn't work properly–both through key command and pull down menu. It pastes wherever it feels like, even after restarting sometimes, (which creates the delay again opening).

   Linking: often it will not automatically check folders for links, despite this feature being checked and relink to last location selected in preferences. Manual linking must be done. In books, this costs dearly in time lost.

   These may seem like small inconveniences, but when you are hammering through dozens of files a day this is incredibly time consuming and a huge waste of my time. Which is my billable time.

   It isn't the system or hardware; with the latest and greatest Mac, with a solid state drive and plenty of room to manoeuvre, it plows through massive AE files and can handle Maya files. There is something wrong that ID is requiring so much CPU to handle what it used to do in a snap. If that's what the issue is. I haven't a clue why it's performing so badly wit this last iteration.

5. Crashes when font file is moved *every single time*

   This will crash InDesign (and Illustrator and Photoshop) every single time without fail, all cc 2020 apps I've tested, specifically:

   InDesign 15.0.2, Illustrator 24.1, Photoshop 21.1.2

   I'm using OSX 10.15.3 Catalina

   Try this:

   –add a font to ~user/Library/Fonts/MyFontFolderName/ to install. Works with any font, but for example try Adobe's own wonderfully designed Source Serif Pro
   –make a new document in InDesign, set some text in that font, eg: Source Serif Pro-Regular, save document (or don't save, same result)
   –move the font file, eg: SourceSerifPro-Regular.otf to a sub folder, eg: ~user/Library/Fonts/MyFontFolderName/AnotherFolder/
   –app will crash EVERY SINGLE TIME.

   Once again, this happens with every font I've tried, fonts I've designed, fonts from Adobe originals, fonts from other foundries. Happens with OTF, and with TTF. I'm a type designer and I'm testing out new versions of fonts many times in a day, even many times in an hour, so this is very frustrating.

   FWIW, this only seems to affect Adobe apps. Other apps like Apple's TextEdit or Pages aren't affected by this at all.

   A normal user action like this, re-arranging font folders, shouldn't cause all Adobe Apps to crash every time. Please consider this a very high priority and fix ASAP. Thank you!

6. indesign inside indesign error CMYK on PDF exporting

   Problem in inDesign v15. Previous versión works fine

   I use huge indesign files (wen name it A) inside a indesign file(we can name it B), is cool feature that optimice our workflow. After update, everythink looks working well but when we exporte print file in PDFx1a Format we experiment problems on RGB->CMYK conversión on images os "A"file, when we export from "B" file. But it work fine if we export on the original "A" source file. Some similar issues are detected, leaving space in white or low, strange white image file as described on attach file.

7. Find/Change saved queries lose numeric precision for indent values

   Version:
   Adobe InDesign 21.0.2
   macOS 26.2
   Issue also observed in much earlier versions (since CS5.5).
   Steps to reproduce:
   Create a document with paragraph units set to millimeters.
   Create a paragraph with a left indent of exactly 5 mm.
   Open Find/Change.
   In Find Text, set Left Indent to 5 mm by typing it manually.
   Run Find – the paragraph is found.
   Save this Find/Change query.
   Reload the saved query.
   Run Find again.
   Expected result:
   The saved query should find the same paragraphs as when the value is entered manually.
   Actual result:
   After reloading the saved query, the paragraph is not found.
   Additional details:
   Via the scripting API the difference can be observed.
   Manual entry via UI:
   app.findTextPreferences.leftIndent = 14.1732283464567
   After reloading saved query:
   app.findTextPreferences.leftIndent = 14.17322834
   The reduced numeric precision causes the query to fail.
   This appears to be a precision loss when persisting Find/Change query settings.
   The issue affects both UI and scripting workflows.
   Using paragraph or character styles does not prevent this issue, as it is related to how numeric values are stored and restored in saved queries.

   Adobe InDesign 21.0.2

8. images pixelated when rotated

   When I place an image into InDesign it imports high res, but when the image is rotated, it becomes severely pixelated. Even when the image rotation is a small degree - just a few degrees even. The image preview becomes distorted severly and changes distortion with every degree of rotation. I should mention that I am a professional graphic designer with over 20 years of experience so I have tried all of the obvious fixes - switched view to "overprint preview", set display performance to "High Quality", deleted preferences.. I have done everything imaginable. Running a machine with 3 GB of RAM so should be fine there... contacted Adobe Customer Support and he could not resolve the issue. Says that he tried it on his end (also with high res images) and he is experiencing the same issue. Said that it is to be expected from the software. We aren't talking about a mild amount of pixelation or distortion here. As soon as you rotate, it gets REAL ugly REAL quick lol. I just refuse to believe that InDesign is that poor at image previewing. There has to be another solution to this. Example shown here is a scanned image, 720ppi - look at the lines under the logo at the top. And this is a flattened JPEG. HELP!!!! I can't be the only one experiencing this.

   Crashes intermittently when printing to Epson printer. Stops printing part way thorough page & epson dialogue box shows print levels all greyed out, not in colour. Windows log from control panel below.

   We have released InDesign 2025(v20.2.0.036) with many stability fixes. We recommend you upgrade to the latest version (if you’re not already on it) as it is more robust.

   If you still face this issue even after updating, please submit the crash report to us. (Guidelines to submit crash are available at (https://helpx.adobe.com/indesign/kb/submit-crash-reports.html )

   • Reproducible Steps – What were you doing when InDesign crashed?

10. Export Jpeg to nas, finder crash

    I have a MacbookPro under macOs BigSur version 11.4 with an Apple M1 chip, the version of Indesign is 16.3.2, when I export one of my files either locally or on the network nas, in the JPEG format to the NAS and I want to open the Finder to see if the file is saved, as soon as I click on it without opening it, the Finder no longer responds and the same for Indesign, which forces me to close Indesign so that the Finder will work again, is there a compatibility problem since there is still no version of Indesign for Apple Silicon processors?
    I have already been with an adobe technician who took the hand on my post, he told me to do a post here, thanks

11. Variable Font: top of "U" wiggles as you change weight (FreeType bug)

    8. The problem no longer occurs in FontView 2020 (which I’ve rebuilt with newest FreeType). I’m including both the 2019 and 2020 version of FontView in the ZIP.

    9. The problem also does not occur in Chrome 83 (which I think uses FreeType for VF), nor it occurs in Safari 13.1.2. Videos are included in the "video" folder.

    So it seems that it’s a bug in FreeType which was fixed by the FreeType developers. If Illustrator and InDesign use FreeType for VF, then Adobe should update FreeType to the newest version.

12. Apple text replacement does not work in indesign

    Indesign 19.0.1

    Mac text replacement does not work in Indesign nor Illustrator.

    How can I change this? What is blocking this in the Adobe programs?

    (EXAMPLE: on every other program on the Mac when I type wf, it replaces it with the word wayfinding)

13. portrait mode - Whether at 125% or 100% the Indesign Interface scaling option under Preferences does not work.

    BUG DETAILS- On a Monitor that is setup in a Portrait configuration, whether at 125% or 100% display scale in Windows Settings, the Indesign Interface scaling option under Preferences does not work.

    Adobe is a publishing software, especially InDesign. Book Publishers and their graphic design team need to have the option of working in a monitor setup in a Portrait configuration for the purpose of full vertical page (height) dimensions. I cannot get Indesign to Scale the Interface at all under Preferences when monitors are set in Portrait configuration. This is a bug because the InDesign interface does scale (as intended, under Preferences) when monitors are in landscape configuration.

    The result is that the menu items and tool icons are so small they are virtually unreadable.

    Walked through this with a tech on Adobe phone Support to confirm all this - that portrait Interface scaling is not possible on my end or the tech's end. We walked through all the troubleshooting steps, including setting the Windows Display Scale settings to 100% and trying to adjust Display Resolution.

    It remains unresolved. Those of us with glasses and eye strain, thank you in advance

14. Stock image names are too long

    When using licensed Adobe stock images, the names from the catalog are entered as the file name which causes the files to not be able to be packaged, resulting in an error. I suggest making it so that the files enter the library as Stock #s instead to avoid this issue.

    Some Alt Codes Short Cuts not working in Indesign, but same font is working fine in Pagemaker, Adobe CC Acrobat DC Pro, Coreldraw, Microsoft Word and all Other applications, but not working Photoshop, After Effects, Premiere Pro as well as Indesign CC.

16. leave User Workspaces ALONE

    Leave User Workspaces ALONE!! Updates should automatically grab the current workspaces and copy them in, STOP trying to shove three versions of "essentials" down our throats. Not all of us have admin access, so deleting after every update isnt an option. It also stops non-admin users from migrating manually. To say this is frustrating would be an understatement.

    "Essentials" is TRASH, but every **** update removes any custom ones I have (YES even if I choose migrate, it doesnt do anything so I stopped bothering) and force it into "Essentials". Just STOP. You DO NOT know our workspaces better than us. This shouldnt be difficult, but Adobe has been doing this for years, and now InDesign 2025 has THREE different Essentials? Thats missing the point entirely and then congratulating yourself for it.

17. Since 2020 update, InDesign won't correctly import and replace typekit fonts.

    When opening a file that uses a typekit font, Indesign attempts to "install" it (fonts that SHOULD already be there anyway, or were installed previously). The wheel spins indefinitely, and it never installs. My only workaround I've found is to attempt to find a download elsewhere on the web. Then it works fine. It seems to only be an issue with Indesign, and only since the 2020 update. Something similar happens with some non-adobe fonts, too. Says it's not installed, but it is.

18. Problems with zoom on tablets wacom

    The Zoom function (Zoom In and Zoom Out) made with two fingers directly on the Wacom tablet (in my case an Intuos Pro L) or made using the Wacom Touch Ring tablet still does not work in InDesign, for a long time, with different versions of InDesign and with different operating systems (OS Mavericks - Sierra-High Sierra and now also Mojave ...).
    All this is very frustrating, because it eliminates a very important function for those who have to paginate!
    On all other programs (Illustrator, Photoshop and competition programs - Affinity Designer and Affinity Publisher Beta) it works regularly: I have already reported this bug on other occasions and every time there is an InDesign update I hope this problem will be finally solved but REGULARLY, for years now, I am disappointed every time, because the problem continues to exist: please, adobe, DO YOU WANT TO SOLVE IT ONCE AND FOR ALL, since every year I spend a lot of money for your subscription? Or do you want me TO DEFINITELY SWITCH TO AFFINITY APPS that cost a lot less and at least work properly?
    I'm waiting for an answer from adobe, THANKS!

19. Cannot View Baseline Grid in InDesign

    Issue: Unable to View Baseline Grid in InDesign
    1. Version of Adobe InDesign 16.3.2
    2. Followed the steps to correct set up the Baseline grid (attachment 1); also went to View --> Grids & Guides --> View Baseline grid
    3. Expected result is being able to see the baseline grid.
    4. I closed the Indesign file and restarted it. Actual result: Still unable to see baseline grid despite all the settings present.

20. Changing case from caps to lowercase

    The first letter of a new paragraph has automatically changed from caps to lower case after an A level heading in my document. It only relates to this heading levels and occurs in 85% of instances in a 90 page document. I have checked the Word file and cannot find an issue there. I have not been able to replicate the issue since it has been picked up in the proof reading process. I am using the current inDesign CC version and Adobe Typekit fonts.
