1. Crash when exporting

   Every time I try to export my document to a PDF InDesign 12.1 crashes. I've quit and restarted the software, and restarted my computer. I have no pending updates. I'm not sure why the program crashes every time I try to export. I've tried to go around the issue by packaging the file, exporting directly to PDF, or getting a PDF from a "print" operation, but nothing seems to work. It crashes every time.

   To identify the cause of this issue, we had started our investigation with the aim to resolve it. You might have also received email from us seeking more details to help in our investigation.

   We’ve concluded our investigation and came up with the finding : Either the issue is fixed in the latest release of InDesign or the issue was intermittent in nature at the time of its reporting and is not reproducible now.

   We recommend you to upgrade to the latest version of InDesign 2020 (if you’re not already on it). It contains a lot of stability fixes.

2. When opening two documents as tabbed one window group, ID does not auto-fit the resulting taller window onto full screen

   Make adding the additional document tab fit the resulting tabbed window into the same space the old one without tabs occupied.

4. Lag in 20.0 and higher

   The lag in 20.0 and its updates is hard to stomach. We pay a lot for this app and it is VERY difficult to work with these issues. Evey time I click on something in a document - no matter how large a file - there is lag. Text boxes, images, color shapes/boxes. I have a brand new Mac Studio with Apple M2 Ultra and 128GB Memory - I have more than enough power to support your app. PLEASE FIX THIS ISSUE. I have tried all of the troubleshooting offered to no avail, and I shouldn't have to trouble shoot to make it function properly.

5. Can't move objects properly, they jump out of the frame InDesign V20.1

   When I want to move the frame around the page, the object jumps randomly on the side of the screen. Does not fallow the mouse. Cannot do precise layout.

8. [ID-4256404]InDesign crashes consistently on book pdf export

   InDesign 20, Mac Ventura 13.7. iMac 27in, 2017.
   Every time I try to export a Book to PDF InDesign crashes. Crash occurs even with just one idd doc in the book (with nothing in the doc besides a single page with one rectangle shape).

9. Image Path Data Merge Is Ignored

   InDesign 19.4 for Mac (Sonoma 14.5)

   After the latest update, the data merge is not longer working properly for image files. While, in some cases, the paths to the images is correctly resolved and the images are embedded, the same data file that has worked earlier this year now creates an issue, so that images are not shown after data merge.

   Instead of using the path given in the data file, InDesign now searches for the images in the folder where the data file is, ignoring the path name in the data file.

   Moving the images into this folder works as a workaround. However, resolving image paths has worked correctly in previous versions, and I would love to have the old functionality back.

   InDesign 19.4 for Mac (Sonoma 14.5)

10. Reflowable EPUB3: "Page Navigation" export option adds a space inside hyphenated words at page breaks

    1. Version of InDesign: 19.4

    2. steps to reproduce

       • create a new InDesign file
       • add a text frame to the blank page
       • add enough text so some words are hyphenated at the page breaks for the next pages
       • export to epub3
       • enable "Page Navigation" on EPUB export

    3. Expected result
       Page navigation markers are added without interrupting the hyphenated words at the page breaks.

    4. Actual result

       When using the "Page Navigation" export option for reflowable EPUB exports, InDesign adds a <span> and </span> tag pair with a blank space character in the HTML export instead of simply dropping the soft hyphen that was present in the print layout.

       Result in the EPUBs XHTML:

       <p class="bodytext">Idel illandia suntusdae quoditint debitatissit quam quamus magnimus es quiaeper elor eper<span id="page2" role="doc-pagebreak" aria-label="2" epub:type="pagebreak"> </span>nat quo con re nimus?</p>

       Another example using English text (from the "Georgia" file in the EPUB3 samples project):

       In my file "georgia", the words "consists" and "headward" are both hyphenated by InDesign as "con-sists" and "head-ward" at the page breaks, but exported to EPUB as

       con<span id="page2" role="doc-pagebreak" aria-label="2" epub:type="pagebreak"> </span>sists

       and

       head<span id="page3" role="doc-pagebreak" aria-label="3" epub:type="pagebreak"> </span>ward</span>

       respectively, thus displaying as "con sists" and "head ward".

       I am confident that this is not an issue of readers / apps display the EPUB erroneously, as I tested my example files on a PC with Kindle Previewer 3.81, Adobe Digital Editions 4.5, Thorium 2.2.0, as well as on a Kindle Paperwhite via Send to Kindle, a tolino (popular brand of readers in Germany, both with Adobe RMSDK rendering engine and new Readium-based rendering engine), an iPad with Apple Books and a Pocketbook InkPad Color.

       The W3C recommendation for page break markers is not a pair of opening <span> and closing </span> tags, but a self-closing <span/> tag, e.g.

       <span id="page2" role="doc-pagebreak" aria-label="2" epub:type="pagebreak"/>

       which would look like this for the above examples:

       Personally, I'd think using a pair of <span> / </span> tags WITHOUT an additional space should work out, too, if you absolutely must use a tag pair for whatever reason.

       However, I would strongly urge you to change the implementation to conform to the W3C recommendation.

       Either way, the current behaviour creates errors on EPUB export which are not present in the indd source file - so please change this as soon as possible.

       How am I supposed to supply a sample file if I am neither allowed to upload indd, idml, epub or zip files‽

    Variable font sliders are much less smooth in InDesign, compared to Illustrator. They are much laggier.

12. InDesign resets window position set by Magnet utility on macOS

    In the current v19.4 (2024), when I use the common utility Magnet to resize the InDesign window (i.e. the Application Frame) to full screen, InDesign itself will reset the window position as soon as I ⌘-tab out of InDesign and return to it. No other app on my Mac does this, and it's very frustrating. Manual window size changes are honoured.

    There are other inconcistencies about InDesign's window positioning on macOS too — if it opens on my laptop screen, the application bar (above the control panel) appears under the menu bar and is almost invisible.

    Please fix.

13. Correct but wrong German translation for Review Panel

    The German translation for »Share for Review« is »Für Review freigeben«. I do not understand why you kept the »Review« in English, but that's not my point here and could be discussed somewhere else.

    There is the Review panel, which can be opened via Window > Comments > Review. In German it should be named »Review« as well, because you did not rename the functionality. Right?

    But, hey, the panels name ist »Überprüfen«. Correct translation, but inconsistent, as you might agree to me.

    So please, change »Überprüfen« to »Review« or change »Review« everywhere else to »Überprüfen«.

14. InDesign crashes when restoring a spread/page that contains a selected table with an xml tag

16. Bicubic Downsampling artifacts

    When an image is exported to PDF with Bicubic Downsampling selected, the interpolation creates a a column of pixels which seem to be duplicated from the column immediately preceding it. This isn't very noticeable on full images, but on specific cases, like the round circle attached, it creates an unsightly "bump out" that alters the shape of the circle.
    This does not occur if Average Downsampling is selected, so that's the immediate solution to the problem, but maybe the ID team needs to look at how Bicubic Downsampling is applied and if there's any way to improve this interpolation.
    As mentioned, it also affects full images, but the "repeated" column, while there, is not an EXACT replication of the one to its immediate left, so the interpolation is using a set of samples slightly differently, but still very close to a duplication.
    The effect also seems to occur on the last row of pixels, but not in the same way, but still creates a sense of a flat spot on the circle example.

18. Montserrat typeface's; semi bold, bold, extra bold & black has issues displaying in Id

    Version 2024 19.0

    When I change the font to Monserrat with one of the mentioned styles most of the glyphs are wrongly presented for example if i choose bold most of the letters seem to be light rather than bold, with a few like 'o' and 'E' displaying as the right style, when they should all be displayed as bold.

19. fontproblem – strange ligatures – invisible font

    Hi there

    In InDesign CC23 we have the problem that we sometimes have some issues with ligatures. We have the font Minion Pro activates in the Library. and somehow have the problem, that the ligatures appear to be a completely different character, see the screenshot.
    the problem could be resolved by deleting the Minion Font from the application folder > Ressources > Required > Fonts. the Ligatures changed back to the correct character. Or i deactivate the minion regular in the finder. But i need the font for other apps as well, so i need to activate the regular font as well.

    Other Problem as well with Minion. We accidentally activated the Font through our Font Tool as well through Adobe Cloud. That brought us the problem, that the complete Font isn’t visible in InDesign or compressed as ****, so a complete Textline is less than 1/2mm in width.

20. shortcut presets resets to default

    Several people in our team have the problem.
    That every time we restart InDesign CC23 (18.5) the shortcut set is reset to default. the saved shortcut set is still availlable but we have to select it again.

    We work on MacOS 13.6 with Apple M1 Chips.
