  1. Don't add an extra page when endnotes are imported

The new endote option is nice (could be better, but hey, it's something). The only thing that bugs me is the fact that a new page is added everytime I place text that contains endnotes, or when I copy/paste that text.

It screws up much of my design, and I have to manually delete the page and put everything back in it's right place.

Would be great if the endnote frame would just be placed on the same page as the end of the text flow!

  3. Unequal columns within a single text frame

It would be great if we could define different column widths within a single text frame, making the automatization of sidebars in longer documents easier. Currently, we need to set up differently sized text boxes on the page and link them.

  5. Add leading zeroes to single page image exports

When exporting pages to images (something we do quite a lot in comics), it helps with further batch processing to have a sufficient number of leading zeroes as part of the exported filename.

    So instead of:
    Page 1
    Page 2
    Page 99
    Page 103

    Page 001
    Page 002
    Page 099
    Page 103

This can be a selectable feature in the user preferences or automatically generated to pad the number of leading zeroes to match the number of pages in the exported file (e.g. if there are only 93 pages in the book, only add leading zeroes to…

  6. Get back to home screen similar to Illustrator and Photoshop

I like having documents open and being able to go back to the home screen for illustrator and photoshop to visualize the thumbnails of the most recent documents. Please add that feature to inDesign.

  7. Don't automatically change view/zoom when editing layer visibility of linked graphics

Editing the layer visibility of a linked graphic in InDesign causes the zoom level to be automatically adjusted to fit-to-page. This makes it difficult to see the preview image for small graphics that may be hard to see at the full page zoom level.

If any automatic zoom adjustment is to be made at all (which it should not) it should be to fit the graphic to the window so you can see what you are doing.

  8. Set Grid in double page documents new for every page

In double page documents, the grid overlaps the gutter, which sometimes makes it hard to use the grid on the right side, when the right side starts with half a grid box or 3/4 or whatever.

IT would be nice if you could choose between overlapping and starting the grid from zero at the page on the right side.
It would also be VERY helpful if you could turn the visibility of the grid off outside of the pages because all the lines make the view so "noisy".
AND it would be helpfull to be able to adjust the…

  9. Save All and Close All

Add a 'Save All' and 'Close All' to the File menu. Photoshop and other Adobe software have had this since the '90s, so why doesn't InDesign? It's inefficient to click on dozens of documents one at a time in order to save them and/or save and close them. Please emulate Photoshop as the ideal example.

  10. Allow to use a footnote multiple times on one page

I'm working with tech documents and spec lists that often have one footnote applying for several items like:

    Item A
    Item B (footnote 1)
    Item C (footnote 2)
    Item D (footnote 1)
    Item E (footnote 3)

Instead of having footnote 1 listed twice (which looks very odd and consumes space), it would be awesome to have some slick way to deal with this without the need of working with crossreferences and alike.

I'm aware of adding a superscript 1 for the second appearance but it doesn't automatically counts up when adding a new footnote prior to the automatic footnote.

  11. Custom/favorite zoom

Especially when working on a small laptop while traveling, I like to use a couple of zoom levels that are non-standard, and have to keep retyping the percentages in the bottom left of the screen.

For example, I frequently want to zoom to the width of a page's text frame, not including the margins, which on my current laptop is 100%. That's easy because it corresponds with one of the present zoom levels.

But I also frequently zoom to show a spread's text frames; I don't want to waste my precious laptop screen space on the margins away…

  12. Selected Page Count in InDesign's Pages Panel

Please add a visible count of selected pages in the Pages panel.

This could be displayed on hover or added to the existing status text - "X pages in Y spread".

This feature would replace the current, less intuitive method of calculating page count via "move pages" for instance.
    Potential use-cases:

    • Quick calculations of chapter lengths.
    • Determining page ranges for specific paper types, e.g., those requiring division into 16 pages.

Please consider adding this feature to improve InDesign's functionality.

I provided a very quick mockup for how this could be shown.

    Thank you.

  13. Prevent multiple sound files on a page from playing at the same time in an Interactive PDF

Have 2 buttons on a page in indesign cc 2018, each starts a sound file playing, if reader clicks on one and then the second both files play at the same time. I want to click on one button and have it play a sound file and turn off the other sound files if they are playing. Think of it as a menu of sound files in a list but I want only one to be allowed to play at a time.

  14. Dynamic Page height

An option to allow page height to auto adjust with content.

This would be handy when linking one indesign document into another, such as a catalogue, each product and description etc would sit in the linked indesign file on separate pages, possibly data merged and then placed into working file. If the height of the linked pages where all auto adjusted to height of the content the pages could all be inserted with minimal effort and perfect spacing.

  15. Show Page Dimensions permanently in Document Window

With more than one tool to change general/individual page sizes, keeping an eye on these numbers is crucial.

Please make page dimensions visible at all time – e.g. in the slug/pasteboard area next to every page or in the Pages thumbnails, at least as some kind of tooltip or popup info. This behavior could be activated with a preferences checkbox. Thanks.

  16. Enable easy batching of GREP Find/Change queries & expandable 'entry window'

    Hi there,

Rather than rely on third-party software (or convoluted scripts), there should be an option to batch GREP queries together in the Find/Change menu.

Also, it would be nice (for more extensive/complicated GREPs) to be able to expand the window in general (pertaining to both Find/Change's GREP tab and the equivalent menu for GREP styles elsewhere) when entering the expressions.

As an addendum to that last point, at the very least InDesign should have a built in (expandable) panel for copying and pasting complicated GREP syntax without having to worry about certain syntax items disappearing if copied and…

  17. Accessibility—PDF Export Preset

In PRINT PDF export options, we have the option of saving settings as JobOptions which can be selected in the future from a drop-down menu.

Need the same capability in INTERACTIVE PDF export options, too.

And we also need preset for accessibility from both PRINT and INTERACTIVE PDF exports, one that ships and installs with InDesign and PDF Maker (MS Office) to automatically set the options for tagging and tab order.

  19. Child object styles to inherit parent size and position

Object Style 1 includes width and/or height specs.
Object Style 2 is based on Object Style 1.
When Object Style 1's width/height specs are changed, they are not reflected in Object Style 2.
The only option seems to be 'Reset to base' in Object Style 2.

Please make it so that child object styles also inherit Size and Position settings.

  20. Combine single page PDF into a spread from Books

When using Books and exporting to a PDF, if you have single pages, they just show as a single page. Maybe have an option to combine single pages into a spread.
