  1. Indesign Online Dashboard improvements - Custom URL, Google analytics, Fname direct to send clients

Indesign is hands down the best software to design & create digital brochures with its advanced technology & features its impeccable. HOWEVER talking about the Online Dashboard System its not leading the industry.

I've done my research and a lot of the online digital brochure creator websites are ahead.

I will list below a few new ideas/features I'd love to see Adobe implement to put them back in the lead when it comes to the publishing feature.
(Some of these ideas are already being done by the online companies)

  2. Allowing the Review Function to have live text editable/collaborative

The company I work for focuses more on publishing where we are working between an art and development team and an editorial team.

Currently, we use InCopy to allow our editors to be more hands on with their major changes they need to text. But it creates a long wait time, packaging and uploading large files to our current servers, and room for error for the designer or editor to not be working from the most updated file. The problem we are having with InCopy not only is the human error of the risk of outdated files, but uploading large…

  3. preflight errors alert in export

When exporting to pdf, if there are missing fonts, links and/or overset text (probably some other options), we will have a prompt saying that we have those kind of errors and InDesign will allow us to fix the errors before creating the pdf.

In the other hand, if we have missing glyphs for example, InDesign will create the pdf without any warnings.

You can see the errors in the preflight panel but I think it can be easily overseen and this extra security step would help to fix these errors if needed.

I think Indesign should show this prompt…

  4. Don't automatically change view/zoom when editing layer visibility of linked graphics

Editing the layer visibility of a linked graphic in InDesign causes the zoom level to be automatically adjusted to fit-to-page. This makes it difficult to see the preview image for small graphics that may be hard to see at the full page zoom level.

If any automatic zoom adjustment is to be made at all (which it should not) it should be to fit the graphic to the window so you can see what you are doing.

  5. Add ability to make resusable/editable linked COMPONENTS (like in XD)

InDesign has been dancing around the edges of this idea for years, with half-baked features like snippets, libraries, linked items in the content grabber....but it never has gotten it right. What we need is something exactly like the "components" feature in Adobe XD. We grab some objects, and then "Make Component" out of them. Then we can plop multiple instances of that component throughout the document. If we go back and edit the "Main Component" those changes are automatically applied to all placed instances of it.

Yes, I know you can place one indesign doc into another, which is…

  7. Provide a linking feature to duplicate text from one frame into others

It would be highly valuable to be able to define a parent text frame and then link that frame to other frames in a layout that duplicates the text in that frame.

This would be similar to the way that text links in alternate layouts work, but the styles to the linked (child?) frames are allowed to be independent of the parent.

Trying to use text variables for this kind of duplication runs into the multi-line issue. Copying linked frames from alternate layouts will result in the parent style of the linked text to overrun any…

  8. Option to recognise different paragraph styles as the really part of the same style

When creating multi-level lists you need to use different paragraph styles. This creates a problem where the spacing you want at the end of the whole list and the start of a new paragraph is applied when you are in the middle of different levels of the list.
I am thinking a little checkbox next to the 'Based on' paragraph style section in the 'General' tab of the paragraph style settings window that allows you to link the new style as a child of the top-level style.
This way, those end of paragraph spacings won't be applied to the child…

  9. Better use of tags to create a barrier-free PDF with InDesign

    Hello Adobe InDesign Team

for accessibility I have to use TAGs in PDFs. I creat my PDF out of InDesign and InDesign has already some features to add TAGs and structure to a PDF when exported but some features are buggy or incomplete so the PDF has to be revised manually, which is a big disadvantage especially when there are changes in the original InDesign file later.

So here some of the most imported things I would changes to make this process easier.

    1. Add PDF/UA-1
A barrier-free PDF need the PDF/UA-1 Note in the XMP-Metadata. I can only be done…

  10. Share for review (Features that can improve it)

A few things that would improve this.

Auto-updating the viewer's side of the document after you save the document instead of refreshing it every time or having to update the link.

When they comment/draw on that it shows on the designer's side in the application as a popup on the document that they can add a checkmark afterward or comment if needed. This would basically bridge both ends to see live updates and live suggestions in the application and on the viewer's side.

It would also make the designer's life easier to go between tabs or applications to see…

  11. Threaded Text Overflow between Documents

I often work on publications 500-1,500+ pages in length, which requires me to use several documents, threading text full of graphics in each document. I cannot contain everything in one document (too large, will crash, even though all graphics are linked rather than embedded). If there was a way to automatically allow text to overflow into new documents after a set amount of pages per document, that would be amazing. It would save me tons of time when manipulating content and then aligning before preflight. You could even keep it to where this feature only works if used in…

  12. Cache remote/server images on local drive for high quality display preview

Yesterday I was working on a document from another office so the server wasn't in the building. I was working on graphics that required hi-res display so I could use them as a guide, but because they were all on the server the performance was abysmal. I realised after a while what the problem was, copied them to my local hard drive and re-linked so everything was much faster.

InDesign should be able to do this automatically: when a large image is not on the local drive, a copy of it could live in a cache somewhere to…

  13. More options for packaged files.

Here is an idea that I would think is relatively easy to implement, but would be a great relief to many of us.

So, I packe and indesign file and it creates a copy, an idml-file, a pdf and "sucks in" all links and fonts to a neat folder. Indesign operates under the assumption that this is the very last thing you do, but often I do this midway to secure everything, or to move to another computer etc etc. Or i retuurn to a finnished project a year later as the client wants some updates.

    I would love…

  15. Relink already placed images with new images

When I tried to relink an already placed JPG in my InDesign CC 2019 file with a larger version of the same graphic with another file name, the Links panel showed the new file name and the new graphic size, but the placed image in my InDesign file remained the same.

For example, the original graphic was 1" wide and the new graphic was 3" wide. When I relinked the 1" graphic to the 3" graphic file, the image in my InDesign file still showed the graphic as 1" wide even though the Link Info showed…

  16. I would like to be able to download/print a list of all linked files with their full pathways.

I would like to be able to download/print a list of all linked files with their full pathways. Currently if you highlight all the files on the links panel, then right click, then choose Copy Info, you get a complete list of files, but not the full path.

Having the full path will help me identify when and how the image was created, what category the image falls into, and where the original artwork is located in the warehouse.

  17. Share for Review

I was excited to see the Share for Review feature roll-out in the newest June 2020 update. However, I have already experienced issues.
    1. It only exported one page in my document.
    2. I 'invited' members, but when they got the link, it prompted them to enter a password (that I never set and don't want to set).

I work with a lot of non-technical savvy folks who just need the ability to see my work and comment without the need to log in or create an Adobe ID. Forcing them to do this will alienate users (our clients)…

  18. Native AI support.

Using links within AI to keep source files small is useless if INDD is a part of the workflow because INDD will not place AI files unless PDF compatibility is turned on. Turning on PDF compatibility in AI when saving embeds all links so linking files instead of embedding them makes no difference.

Please make INDD able to place AI files that have not been saved with PDF compatibility turned on.

  19. Checkbox to change style of linked object

I would like to use/export interactive PDF, which would allow user to check the checkbox next to object. Upon checking, the object hidden style would become visible.

For example: I have PDF with multiple images of cars. When I check the checkbox near the image of car, that image will be overlayed with green transparent effect to show this car has been selected.

I would like to have this feature available for my collection overview and to see the visual feedback of all collected objects would be satisfying for me.
