'Fixed width' option for paragraph rules and styles
Hi There,
There's a long history in the forums for this request; Fixed width and alignment for paragraph rules.
See attached; Need a dropdown option to select 'Fixed width' and then length and alignment options.
Also need this carried over to paragraph styles.
Cheers
Ben

To comply with a client's brand guidelines, I need to place a fixed width 20mm rule under a title heading and create a paragraph style for use in a very long document. I'm a long-time Quark user, relatively new to InDesign, and have just spent half an hour trying to work out how to do something I've done a lot in Quark. I'm really surprised (given how complex and powerful InDesign is proving to be) that the paragraph style option seems only to offer relative width so, for me, fixed width option would be most welcome. I know I can anchor a rule but it would just be so much easier to assign it in paragraph styles. (Loving InDesign though... never going back to Quark!)

This is a clever idea. Here is one workaround until Adobe adds this feature: https://indesignsecrets.com/topic/line-underneath-text/#post-122738

Matt, just use here a stroke style! So simplistic! ;-)

Yes please, I was just looking to see if this was possible as I don't want the rules to all be different sizes.

Agreed; oftentimes I'm working with brands which require a short line of consistent width above or below a headline, and the current settings don't work well to create lines of a specific length, rather it only allows for lines which are related to the length of the text or column.
