1. PDF Export Formatting Issue

   I found that no matter what export options I use or how I format my file, it exports incorrectly. My content is in 2 columns on InDesign but when exported it seems pretty random how the PDF is structured (see the image).

   This poses a problem for parsing software to be able to read the document in the correct order. It's common practice within most companies to use this for resumes. I'm sure it's also used elsewhere as well.

   I've contacted support and they tried to resolve the issue by using my computer remotely. They found that this feature is not available.

2. Allow to export pdf with comments for archival purposes

   Once we are done with a project, we package all of our files and upload to our server. It would be nice to be able to export the reviewed documents as pdfs that include all of the comments made. Just for archival purposes in case we ever go back and wonder why certain changes were made.

3. show import highlighted pdf comments with different color than H&J violations

   When you import PDF comments that are highlighted text, they appear in the layout with the same color/treatment as text marked by checking Preferences: Composition: Highlight: H&J violations. These should be visually differentiatable from one another.

4. Preference in for Id, Ai, Ps "Open pdf immediately after creating it"

5. Interactive features retained when PDFs placed in InDesign

   When PDFs are placed into an INDD layout, and then the layout is exported to a new PDF, all of the interactive features in the 1st (or source) PDF are removed:

   -- Hyperlinks in the source PDF
   -- Buttons in the source PDF
   -- Accessibility tags and functions in the source PDF

   It's as if the PDF is treated like a dead graphic. All of the interactive features built into it are lost and must be recreated manually in Acrobat.

   Two excellent examples of how disastrous this is for designers:

   1) When a magazine places a PDF of an advertiser's ad, the hyperlinks to the advertiser's website are lost and must be recreated manually in the final PDF. For a magazine with dozens or hundreds of ads, this is a helluva lotta labor to correct the URLs.

   2) When making accessible PDFs, a designer might place a PDF of the president's letter into the layout. The source PDF's text is accessible and tagged, but once the final PDF is exported, that's lost and the president's letter is a dead graphic. That type of item can't have Alt-text on it (Alt-text usually is limited to 200 characters). The real solution is for the letter to remain as live, tagged text in the final PDF.

   SERIOUS shortcoming in the InDesign-to-PDF workflow.

7. Support for "TDM", "PDF/UA" and "PLUS License Data Format" in XMP-Metadata

   Missing support for "TDM", "PDF/UA" and "PLUS License Data Format" in XMP-Metadata in all Adobe apps.
   There are not data fields for "TDM" (text-and-data-mining), PDF/UA (accessibility) and "PLUS License Data Format" in the UI of all Adobe apps.
   This information can currently only be added manually by import of an XML-Snippet-File in the tab "raw-data".
   Or with InDesign scripting and the library "lib:AdobeXMPScript".

8. Upsample Images on PDF Export

   DESCRIPTION:

   Indesign could offer the option of upsampling images to a specified PPI on PDF export. Rather than requiring the user to find each under-res image and manually destructively upsample each with a round-trip through Photoshop.

   Optimally, there could be a threshold setting below which an image resolution is too low. This could be either "effective" resolution PPI number threshold ("Upsample images with an effective placed resolution above 120ppi"), or a max scale percentage that would be needed to get the image up to the set output resolution ("Upsample images within 40% of target resolution." or "Upsample images by no more than 250%.")

   Export dialog could offer different options for dealing with grossly undre-res images or a global "low-resolution" preferences could be set to throw an error at the initial export command similarly to how it deals with missing or modified links.

   I understand that the Preflight panel is already designed to manage resolution issues. But I'm suggesting the option of a workflow where image upsampling happens only for a specific individual PDF output rather than permanently modifying linked source images.

   REASON:

   1. It can be time-consuming to review and override each error that a slightly under-resolution image will throw with modern highly-automated print workflows. (I mean, come on, can anyone see the difference between 280 and 300 ppi once printed? Of course not, but the press doesn't want the liability so throws automated errors if any image is even just 1% under the target resolution.)

   2. Sometimes it's necessary to use images that are not available at any additional resolution and require resampling to choose softness over pixelation. But it can be a nuisance to manage the multiple up-sampled assets hanging around after various uses ("Oh look! Here's a higher resolution version! Dangit, nope, it's just another upsample.") A source image would preferably remain at the actual original resolution since in most cases an upsampled image is made for a specific output.

10. Placed pdfs lose accessibility and all the tags have to be re-created

    When I import or place my pdfs and then export my indesign file all the tags disappear in the exported pdf. This is really annoying as all the tags have to be created again.
    Get my tags back , all the accessibility tags which the pdf had before.

11. Saving Online PDF on different cloud

    There needs to be an option to save the online published PDF on either google drive or iCloud or dropbox. When we have to handover projects which involve ebrochures, its a prime necessity that the Urls generated can be stored by the client itself. Being a designer, I dont know how to send all the rights to the client for online published data.

    Utilizo o script para importar pdf com muitas páginas, porém, as páginas importadas chegam no tamanho da minha página (ou até maior). Gostaria que ocorresse a importação de forma que as páginas importadas respeitassem as margens do meu documento.

13. Make PDF Commenting Panel consistent and better designed

    1. In one place in the panel, it's called Accept. In the flyout menu, it's called "Apply Auto Edit."

    2. Why did we suddenly start calling the checkbox "Resolve"? I know that's the term that Acrobat uses, but it's confusing. Especially, when it's located alongside a word called "Accept." You're making users try to figure out new nomenclature when the old words worked just fine.

    3. The icons on the left of the panel are way too subtle. In Acrobat, they are color coded. Replace text is blue. Strikethrough text is red. Sticky notes are yellow. Underlines are green. Why can't we have those same types of distinguishing colors in the PDF Comments pane.

    4. They gray is WAY TOO subtle. Click don is white, hovered over is 11%, and all others are 5%. It's the same fusing hard to use UI of the comments pane in Acrobat.

    5. Why did yo have to hide the checkmark (resolve) and trash can icons for all the comments except ones that are clicked on or hovered over? Why not just have them readily available. Again, this is copying the new Acrobat UI, which users hate.

    6. The comments are a huge amount of wasted space, just like they are in Acrobat. If you really want to see how the panel should have been designed, take a look at DTP Tools Annotations plugin.

    7. Comments are not sortable. Well, they sort, but only by page number.

    IMO, this is still a beta feature and not ready for primetime. Especially disturbing is how it mimics the UI of Acrobat. It doesn't feel like InDesign. It takes up too much space, isn't full featured enough, and is difficult to use.

14. Exporting PDF Security Settings (Bug)

    When exporting documents to PDF where there are multiple layouts, there is a bug that happens when adding a Security Password to the PDF, where it will revert back to the original layout/all pages if you do not check it.

    So in essence if I only want to export layout 2, it will revert back and export all pages in the document after I input the Security details.

    A way around this issue is to make sure you put in the Security details and password first then go back to the General tab and input your settings. If you do the Security details last (which is usually the workflow since it is lower in the side menu) it will erase the General tab info.

    This is another step to remember to do if you are trying to export quickly which I think could easily be fixed.

    E.g to recreate the issue
    1. General tab - set range to export alt "layout 2"
    2. Go to Security and add in password
    3. Asks to re-put in password
    4. Go back to General and the alt layout will be back on layout 1/all pages

    When exporting documents to PDF where there are multiple layouts, there is a bug that happens when adding a Security Password to the PDF, where it will revert back to the original layout/all pages if you do not check it.

    So in essence if I only want to export layout 2, it will revert back and export all pages in the document after I input the Security details.

15. Please fix text boxes after accepting a PDF comment

    When importing PDF comments and accepting the markup/comment, the text box becomes unresponsive until you click off and back on multiple times. This has been an unaddressed bug for years. I am working on a catalogue with over 1,000 comments, this is going to double the time it takes to work on each page. Please fix this bug

16. Detect a change in size of linked multi page PDF files

    It would be great if ID could see if a placed PDF file changed number of pages. I often place multi page PDFs (financial documents) that span 1-20 pages and are updated/change number of pages as financial data updates. Currently it is a manual process to check the links panel for duplicate (page x) or visually look at the document to see if the total line is not there. These are 500+ page documents, so it takes forever sometimes!

17. Import PDF comments: Acrobat 'Set Status' options; keep Acrobat file in sync.

    Marking comments as resolved/unresolved in InDesign is not comprehensive enough: the full options available in Acrobat need to be available in InDesign. Also, the source PDF file needs to be updated to reflect what has been done in InDesign.

    1. Rather than just 'Resolve', InDesign needs to show the full 'Set Status' menu from Acrobat.
    2. Once the full 'Set Status' menu is in place, marking comments as 'Completed', etc., in InDesign needs to be reflected in the source commented PDF file so it is fully in sync.

18. Enable switching of pages in imported pdfs

    I wish there was a way to change the page of an imported multi-page pdf instead of going to relink the image (to the same file) and selecting the page with the import options clicked. This would save me so much time. All it would require is a page up/down button in the links palette that would only be visible when a multi page pdf was linked in the document.

19. export multiple PDFs (different presets) at once from one InDesign file

    When I package a file for print, I often need to export an additional "Smallest File Size" PDF as well. Would be great if that could be done with a single export.

20. We need a way to convert PagerMaker files to ID files

    I know that I am not the only person, that there are many of us, who were loyal Pagemaker users for many years and now have a big archive of PM files. Adobe pages says that they can be opened with ID CS6, but that doesn't work for me, my CS6 gives me a message that I need a plug-in, but that plug-in isn't available anywhere. I know I'm not the only person who has asked for a plug-in to convert PM files. Please do something about this. Adobe is really failing us.
