Correction in Dictionary Criteria for Hyphens (Portuguese)
Most of hyphenation in Portuguese splits sylables from two consonants in a row (r-r, s-s Ex: 'car-ro', 'profis-são'), but this is not true for nasal sounds formed with the letter H (lh, nh) and I see myself having to review this hyphenation constantly. For example, the correct hyphenation is 'traba-lho', but inDesign usually hyphenates 'trabal-ho' (which is incorrect). It is a simple addition to the program that could save a lot of reviewing time.
There are some other issues too.
Could you please check that out and review the hyphenation rules as of grammar? Portuguese has quite a bit of…1 vote -

Retain previous window dimensions & position & display
My ID (CS6) workspace has palettes down both sides of the screen. If I open a file that I'd been working on then closed, the file window stretches across the screen and goes behind the palettes, tho' when I closed the file previously, the window fit exactly between the two columns of palettes. Assuming a fixed workspace, I'd like the window to be exactly where it was when I last closed the file. It is a 3-step process to restore position & dimensions manually, more if there's a palette covering the bottom right corner of the window. Maybe this…

Create a toggle switch between alternating fills
It would be a simple addition to create a toggle switch to swap alternating fills for columns and tables. This would save me a fair bit of time when editing many tables, please refer to the attached screengrab!

merging cells in a table
I am trying to create a 9x12 horizontal postcard with 4 vertical columns and 5 horizontal rows. Then I merge cells to create different size ad boxes. By the time I get to the last merge, it pulls everything up and looks like it is adding another row at the bottom. For example: merge the whole bottom row into one ad box; merge the right column 4 boxes into one ad box; merge the left 3 boxes beginning from the top into one ad box; merge the center 6 boxes into one large ad box. So, there should be…

Create a text variable window to see and edit values faster
Right now you have to open each variable independently. Then if you want to change the value you have to save and exit each variable. Also you have to open each variable to see the value.
Please create a Text Variable Window with two columns. One for the Name the other for the value. This way we can see the variable and edit the variable. Add the add icon, and add duplicate variable icon.

Better use linked excel files
There should be a way to link to an excel doc, remove unnecessary columns or rows, change the formatting and/or ad paragraph/character styles, so that if the excel doc is updated (with new pricing or different demographics or something) just the information that remains is updated. As of now, if the excel doc is updated, all the work in InDesign (aside from table style) is completely removed and you're forced to either start from scratch, or continue with out of date information.

Export JPG with specific name and as a background task
Now that many users are using INDD to prepare web graphics INDD needs a feature to be able to name the page so when the pages are exported as JPGs or PNGs they are named properly.
I found a script to do this but it would be great to build this into the application. All that would be needed is a variable where we could add the name and INDD would look at that text frame to name the exported files.
This is important to do it this way so this can be a feature of data merge as well.…

Template Automation from CSV File
Dear InDesign Support Team,
I hope this message finds you well.
I am writing to inquire about a feature that I believe would greatly enhance the efficiency of template usage within InDesign.
Currently, I often work with templates that contain a simple layout consisting of a picture (a person's image) and text (the person's name) underneath it.
These templates serve as the basis for creating multiple pages, each with unique content. What I would like to request is the capability to automate the population of these templates using data from a CSV (Comma-Separated Values) file.
Specifically, I envision a feature…1 vote -
I request crop overlays option in InDesign Picture Boxes for positioning placed images with more design precision. As is done with Lightroom
I request crop overlays option in InDesign Picture Boxes for positioning placed images with more design precision. As is done with Lightroom and Photoshop crop overlays, e.g., Golden Ration, rule of thirds, Golden Spiral, etc.

Generative Layout Cleanup
One of the most onerous, time-consuming tasks I deal with as a production designer is fixing layouts from designers who don't understand paragraph styles and efficient layout (No shade! They have other things to focus on and hey… that's why my job exists!)
I would like an AI that can recognize multiple separate type objects on a page, combine them into single text boxes with paragraph styles that control spacing.
In the screenshots, you first see a typical "designer" layout (again, no shade) with ten separate objects with formatting for each applied on top of the default Basic Paragraph style.

New Document dialog: trim safety margins
Print ads have trim, bleed, and safety margins on the inside of the page. Add the ability to define the safety margin in the New Document dialog. It would be better than using Margins and Columns.

Instead of allowing objects to leave the pasteboard, just move them to the edge of the pasteboard
I often place and then resize images in InDesign. Very often when I go to resize an image, I get the error "This would cause one or more objects to leave the pasteboard" and I can't actually resize all the way down to a manageable size—I have to move the entire image somewhere random and try to resize, or just resize in increments, move the image, and resize again.
I understand that I don't want objects to leave the pasteboard. But if an object is about to leave the pasteboard, why can't it just move to the edge of the…

Great new palettes
I like Adobe add great features to InDesign:
1- Ligature Manager: to enable \disable specific ligature(s) in a document, since Unicode and opentype revolutionized the typography abilities.
2- Kerning Manager: to enable \disable specific kerning pairs in a document, since many non-latin font metrics are badly calculated.
3- Equation Editor: for maths, chemistry… etc.
4- Footnote Improvement: to enable user to add marginal footnotes, put footnote in columns… etc.
Very Much Thanks to Adobe Brains.2 votes -
Changes to the review tools
First, I'm using ID 15.1.3 and I cannot upgrade at this time. Not sure how much of these ideas would be resolved by upgrading.
-Is it possible to make pins and pencil lines transparent? There are two ways I can think of: a percentage slider just like alpha control in color settings, or a three point switch: hide/semisolid/solid. Either way I would like to see this as a control for each comment so you can choose it individually. Right now the pin or pencil line blocks the art somewhat, which is where the transparency would be handy.

Text Frame Row Options
Right now, text frames in Indesign only allow you to divide into columns. It should also give to divide into rows as well
In Illustrator, for text frames you have this option. See screenshot.
You can do it with by creating a table, but you cannot make it reflowable like a normal text frame. It would be a fabulous feature have.
Please do same for Indesign, PRETTY, PRETTY PLEASE.

Add a tab feature that automatically sets even spacing between words or blocks of text
When creating forms, I often have a line of text where I need to break the line into individual words or groups of words, similar to placing them in columns, but it's done using tab stops. It would be great to have a tab feature that lets you automatically set the tab distance between each word group so that the spacing between each word group is consistent. Right now it has to be done manually setting multiple tab stops on each line, which is time-consuming.

Allow the paragraph shading to 'knock out' paragraph border in some way for more usefullness
If I specify a border & use just the 'top' as a horizontal rule with the idea to have it appear only on either side of a line of text, there isn't an option to do that or for the shading to knock-out the 'border' or have one in front of the other so it would be handy to be able to specify that one is on top of the other & the option to knock it out or a gap size. I've achieved the desired effect in the 2nd image with a white stroke but that doesn't work well…

Ability to create a custom Glyph
I need to insert in text symbols that appear on products - I have the symbols as an image which can easily be converted into bitmap/eps or whatever is needed in Photoshop.
It would be nice to be able to great a custom Glyph set and create your own library of regularly used symbols - I have about 200 of them from the technical writing I do. Inserting them and getting them to "stay put" is very time consuming and it would-be much easier if they worked just like putting in a symbol from a wingdings font or similar. It…2 votes -
Add table formatting with cell style rather than replace all existing formatting
When doing financial table I need to added extra space or strike to rows while also adding fills to some columns, also some columns have different text style eg Bold, Italic etc.
With Cell Styles they override the existing formatting.
I would like to be able to add these as a Cell Style to a row without replacing the existing format . This would be a bit like a nested style.1 vote
