  1. Reach master page from the page document via ctrl/right click

This is something that’s brilliantly done in Muse, and not so complicate to add as a feature in inDesign, because everything is already there.

When you’re in Muse, in « design mode », you can right/ctrl click anywhere on any page to wether apply a Master or reach the applied master.

In Muse, the « plan mode » (which is inDesign’s pages panel) is usually in another window, complicate to reach, but nonetheless, in inDesign, that could help new users to get what a master page is.

Reason : most of the time, I don’t want to have my pages…

  2. Show the year-based version name in the about window

I'd like to see the YEAR based version name of each product, in the About window. Today I need to visit Wikipedia to check what the version numbers mean.

  3. In the 'EPUB export warning(s)' dialog box, make the problem description copyable

Sometimes when exporting a book to EPUB, the 'EPUB export warning(s)' dialog pops up.

The most obvious action for the user is to examine his documents to figure out what went wrong.

But that dialog box is modal. The user must close it before proceeding.

Sure, it would be nice to make that dialog box non-modal, so that the user could look at their documents while having the problem descriptions available.

Lacking that feature, though, you could make it easy to copy the problem text to another app (such as Windows Notepad). You allow the first step: Letting the user…

  4. Smart hyphenation

A great feature would be if InDesign could add hyphenation rules automatically when when using discretionary hyphens. A pop-up window that asks if you want this word to hyphenate on every instance of the word where you insert the hyphen the first time. I find it a bit too tedious to make new H-rules for every word. This is very relevant for non-english languages where the the pre-defined H-rules isn't very good. There is probably better ways to to this, but I think its time InDesign's hyphenation feature get a little bit smarter.

  5. No option to hide the Application Bar in 2020

I noticed in 2020 there is no longer the menu option under the Window menu to hide the Application Bar. I'm not sure why this was removed, for people who don't use it it's just in the way and unnecessary especially when you're trying to use InDesign on a small screen, every inch of screen space counts. Im sure there are people out there that use it, and that's great, I'm sure they find it useful in someway, but we all use the application differently so please allow us the ability to turn it on and off.

  6. Standardize action of Ctrl-F (should be Find/New Find, not toggle Find window)

In ID, Ctrl-F (Cmd-F) toggles the Find/Change window open and closed.

Only the first instance behaves in a globally correct manner, by opening the F/C window if it is closed, and placing the cursor in the "Find" field.

Every other application of the last several decades then uses Ctrl-F to start the next new search, by placing the cursor in the Find field.

ID instead toggles the F/C window shut, and any user conditioned (by, again, every other app in use) to start typing a new search term finds themselves typing into the document instead.

    While the Find/Change feature has…

  7. LayoutWindow to get and set view bounds

With LayoutWindow.bounds I can get and set the bounds of the window, but I want to get and set the bounds of the view port, ie. what the user sees inside the window. If view port bounds is too difficult, then just a centerOfView coordinate would be fine—combined with the already-available zoom value, that would achieve most things I'd need.

For what it's worth, it is possible to do what I want in Illustrator.

  8. Cross-reference dialog: sortable picker / resizable window

Every time I place a new cross-ref or edit a broken one, it opens that "Edit cross-ref" window, which is not resizable, where a lot of space is wasted and where the most import part, the list of headlines to pick from, is not the biggest part. Then I would select a paragraph style from that very small list on the left where some style names may even be wider than the list field. And when picking from the list on the right, it is not sorted aphabetically by default. Please put something we can click to sort. Imagine you…

  9. Increase Search toolbar for link

Please improve the SEARCH BOX for the link window.
When I need to relink a missing object, the window that open have a very small search box. It should be more big, maybe twice the actual size. Thanks

Hello. It would be good if when publishing online the filename of the current open file is on the tittle by default instead of the last uplodaded file. (windows 10)

  11. Zoom when clicking on errors in the Preflight window

One thing has been bothering me for a long time in Indesign. I am working on a document and activate my print control in the Preflight window, if I then find errors, e.g. under "Text", I simply click on the underlined number of the page on the right and am then taken to where the error is. Unfortunately, it is always set to my 1:1 zoom, so if I want to investigate the error more closely, I have to zoom in manually or with my zoom-shortcut. If I click on the page again at the next error, I end up…

It would be very helpful if, when re-linking missing links, the WHOLE of the filepath appeared along the top of the window. At present I only see the start and end of the path, which often isn't enough to identify it.

  15. Changes to the Interactive>Tab Order dialog

I do many interactive forms with hundreds of fields, and use InDesign for most of its creation, as it's easier for me to create customized filed names. It's just very difficult to rearrange tab order with the inability to see more of the interactive names and needing to scroll up/down in such a small area.

I would like to see this dialog more like many of the regular windows (layers, paragraph styles, etc.). Perhaps also a way to link right to where the field is in the document (like the links window).

Would make this task MUCH easier.

  16. RESIZING THE DOCUMENT WINDOW!!!!!

I shouldn't have to re-size the window EVERY time I open the app, or a document -- and even if you can't fix that, it shouldn't be so hard to re-size the **** thing! I'm sick of having to spend five minutes every time I open the app just getting the window to be the shape and size that I want! On Mac, moving the mouse to the lower right corner (which I have to do to resize the **** window) causes a contextual menu to pop up if I don't grab fast enough. Even if I do get ahold…

  17. cc libraries window head takes up too much space

There's visually 1.25 inches of functions before the window displays my library items. Can't some of this be combined so I can see more of my library in my precious desktop real estate?
row 1 - breadcrumb nav, invite to library
row 2 - search current library
row 3 - filter, sort options, list/grid view
I'd upload a screen cap, but upload files won't accept png, jpg, or gif...

  18. EPUB Interactivity Window resize

This window is defaulted to very small and cannot be resized, making it impossible to test small buttons.

  19. pop-up change page of a linked pdf/indd file

please add simple pop-up option (like object layers) to change the showing page of a link (which is either pdf or indesign file). when my link is for example a pdf containing multiple pages, it's unnecessarily complicated to change the showing page to some another.
so please – right click > pop-up window > change page of link

  20. Radically improve indexing efficiency

This is a general suggestion. Indexing is one of the most tedious, time-consuming processes in ID. Look for ways to make it more efficient. Here are some suggestions.

    1. When a user selects text for indexing, automatically look up that text in the index listing and display those that match. Often the text with say "John Smith" but his name is in the index as" John H. Smith." When a user selects text with "Smith" in it, have a window that displays all entries with "Smith," allowing the proper one to be selected.

    2. Clicking to open lists under first letters is…
