  1. Take into account alternate layouts when generating / updating tables of contents

Create a (say) 20-page A4 document with a table of contents (sections, subsections and whatever).
Then create an alternate layout of this document, for an A5 paper size. This should make the A5 version about 40 pages long.

We can create and update the table of contents for the A4 layout, but we cannot specify a 2nd ToC for the A5 layout, that takes into account the page numbers, as they are adjusted in the alternate layout(s). If we link the A4 ToC to the A5 layout, its contents will display the pagination of the A4 version.

  3. Apply Multiple Master Pages per Page (Akin to Layers)

Ideally, InDesign would treat master pages like layers. In this manner, a variable number of master pages could be applied to any page, allowing for more efficient and quicker customization of page layout. For example, a user might set up the following master pages:

    A-Body (1 Col.)
    B-Body (2 Col.)
    C-Body (Fig. or Table)
    D-Header (Full)
    E-Header (Partial)
    F-Footer (Full)
    G-Footer (Partial)

In this example, the many possible combinations, such as AD, AF, ADF, AE, AG, AEG, BD, etc. (based on layout needs) wouldn't need to be created. More importantly, as in styles based on parent styles, changes would effectively…

  4. Place Photoshop artboards into InDesign

We need to be able to place Photoshop artboards into InDesign.

This should work similar to placing Illustrator artboards or placing pages from a PDF or another InDesign file.

    Thanks.

Thanks for the info. This is indeed correct that since the various artboards come in as a layers the dimensions are of the entire document which can be problematic. Adding this to our backlog.

  6. Find/Change options for variables

Currently, you can only search for all variables used. But that's it. There is no way to search for the contents of variables or find a specific variable used.

  7. Save INDD file in previous version INDD (e.g. CC 2019 can save in CC 2018)

It would be great if InDesign can save INDD file in previous version INDD (e.g. CC 2019 can save in CC 2018). Yes, I know about IDML but it's not exactly what I need.

  8. Adobe Photoshop or other programs Charts and Infographics

How to easily update creative charts and infographic values made in Adobe Photoshop CS5 or other programs versions. How can all graphical parameters be easily updated, depending on each other? Is there a very practical way to do this?

    Thanks

  9. Managing Multiple Sets of Endnotes In a Document AND allowing Endnotes to refer to a separate INDD Document

    Issue #1:
Here's my first dilemma: I am building a book with several hundred pages. This book will be printed (won't be an eBook/iBook). I'm keeping each chapter as its own document that I will then collect together as a larger Book at the end. The last chapter will be just for all the book's endnotes. In previous versions of InDesign, I would import the Word document, delete the endnotes out of the "Chapter x" document, and pop them back into the "Endnotes chapter" without affecting the superscripts referencing the endnotes throughout the text. Easy. Now, in cc 2018 if…

  11. Fitting Content - Define Zoom Percentage

Add a feature to let me define the Zoom percentage instead of just the standard selections. Example, an 8.5x11 from a manual has margins. If the manual needs to be printed smaller, having to place every page into a defined size requires touching every page instead of just enlarge/reduce to a specific size.

  12. Add Custom Commands with Custom Shortcuts to Keyboard Shortcuts Menu

There are certain actions that I'd like to create shortcuts for, but the commands for them aren't listed in the Keyboard Shortcut Menus. For example, setting a keyboard shortcut for the various aligning objects. Aligning text is an option, though. Not what I need.

Everyone's workflow is different. There are commands that I'll just never use. So, freeing up individuals with the ability to create custom commands, which can be suited to their unique workflow would immensely help individual/company productivity. Custom workspaces exist, custom keyboard shortcut sets exist, let's have custom commands too!

  14. Production notes

It would be great if I'd have the possibility to add notes to areas which are only internal. Often you have to make tweaks to get the result you want, but when you have to produce the next version, probably a year later, you don't know anymore, why you did what in this way. If I could add notes it would be very helpful.

  15. Enable surveys to be embedded in Publish Online documents.

It would be great, since many people use PublishOnline to generate newsletters and other similar types of documents that are sent to a large audience, to be able to input simple responsive forms (essentially surveys) of 1-5 questions that send answers back to a programmed space either within PublishOnline's dashboard or to a designated space. Or, allow us to embed suveymonkey javascript survey code somewhere so we can track it that way. I was recently asked if I could add a one question pulse survey to my newsletter I create with PublishOnline and can't find an easy solution without just…

  16. Add features to draft legal briefs

Legal filings are just complicated, cross-linked books.

Lawyers have to follow court rules when typesetting appellate briefs.
    See e.g., http://www.ca2.uscourts.gov/clerk/case_filing/rules/rules_home.html
    https://www.supremecourt.gov/filingandrules/rules_guidance.aspx

WordPerfect has a few useful features: see "Legal Toolbar" https://www.wordperfect.com/en/product/professional-edition/#features

You should add a feature to create a Table of Authorities (ToA). The ToA lists each authority cited along with every page on which it is cited. The ToA has different sections for different kinds of authorities, e.g., cases, statutes, etc.

The best way would be to have InDesign identify authorities/citations. Most lawyers follow the Bluebook. https://www.legalbluebook.com/default.aspx
Others follow the RedBook or the MaroonBook.

    Make selecting, dragging, and dropping…

  17. Add double align tool

Often I find myself needing to align an object to both vertical AND horizontal centers of an object (for example, an icon in a box, or a number in a circle). It would be great to have one button that will align both vertically AND horizontally at once. This would allow me to set a shortcut and knock out work more quickly!

  18. Integrate Macbook Pro Touchbar with InDesign

    Hi!

I love Adobe InDesign and use it everyday for work. I recently upgraded to a Macbook Pro with a touchbar. Photoshop and Illustrator both support the customized touchbar feature and it is super efficient and awesome to have many tools right there on the touchbar.

As someone who uses InDesign more than the above mentioned adobe programs, I would LOVE to be able to use the touchbar feature in InDesign as well!

  19. Bettter error handling. Stop resorting to hard crashes every time indesign encounters a problem.

Been using InDesign since it began. It completely/suddenly crashes/unexpectedly quits more than ANY program I have ever used. This has been well over a decade on more than a dozen totally different (mac) systems. Some versions have been more stable than others, but the program is consistently crash-happy.

I honestly don't mind that it has some issues—it does a lot and we ask a lot of it, I get it. But what I mind is how horrible it is at dealing with problems. Does it have to completely CRASH every time it gets confused? It's like it throws its hands…

  20. Snap-to status indicators

Add an indicator somewhere that's always visible that displays the current status of the Snap-to-Guides and Snap-to-Document-Grid controls. It could also act as the on/off switch for them.

Now there's no way to tell if the snap-to mode is engaged or not without either dragging something around to see if it snaps-to a guide or grid, or going into the View > Grids & Guides pull-down menu.
