1. InDesign 14.0.3 document Missing/Invisible text and photos

   I am using Indesign v. 14.0.3 on a mac with High Sierra 10.13.6.

   I save my projects regularly the whole time I'm working, so it's not a saving issue. Everything was there when I saved and closed the project before this.

   I've been working on a project layout for over two weeks now. Last night I was putting the final version together when it started slowing down, taking a long time to move an item, etc. I saved my project and closed Indesign. I reopened after a while hoping the glitch had time to resolve itself.

   When I open the project now, whole pages are blank. However, everything still shows in the Layers panel as being on the page(s). When I select the item, either it shows me the bounding box but not the text, or it shows me the linked file box with nothing in it, or it shows that the selected item is located in the center seam of the spread with no way to select or move or recover it.

   I really don't want to have to recreate a 32-page catalog on its due date. I have not had a single issue with Indesign on this project until this happened last night.

   Just spent almost 3 hours on Chat with Adobe - multiple steps and hoops - and still no change, no resolution of the issue. The final step? Recreate the document. So, 75-100 hours of work - just recreate it. 24 hours before my deadline.

   So frustrated.

2. Live Preflight reporting a false error in linked indesign docs

   Because of a crazy proofing process, when I put together a magazine, I create all the stories in individual indesign docs and then place the indesign doc into a "main" doc when they are finished. Preflight is flagging every placed indesign doc as having low resolution photos. When I open that doc to fix the issue, all the images are the correct high resolution and nothing is flagged in their preflight. Im worried Im going to miss a real issue.

   1. Im using Indesign 15.0.3
   2. Create an indesign doc with images that are high res, place it into another indesign doc, set the preflight to indicate low res images.
   3. If the placed doc has no preflight errors, the main doc shouldnt have any preflight errors
   4. The placed indesign doc is flagged for low res images

3. Major Bugs Lately in InDesign

   I have noticed some major issues with InDesign lately. Today I uninstalled InDesign completely and reinstalled it, but I am still having some problems. My computer is barely a year old, MacBook Pro, so it shouldn't be a computer/power issue.

   The first thing I noticed was duplicate pages appearing in a long document I was working on. I deleted the "extra" pages and continued working on the document until I realized now I didn't have those pages at all! So I had to go back and add them back in all over again and reformat everything and add in hyperlinks. I had this same issue again later, but I just saved the document, closed it and then reopened it. Then it re-set so it worked again.

   The second issue I notice was tools disappearing. I opened the text wrap window, which appeared, but it was completely blank. I couldn't change any settings on an image that already had text wrap applied. The same thing happened with the align window. That is when I uninstalled InDesign and reinstalled it and those tools re-appeared.

   Now I am having problems with the Paragraph and Character Styles that I created in the file. It doesn't register when the font size/style doesn't match what was created. It doesn't put the + when something is different and when I go through and click on ALL of my different Paragraph styles nothing happens. The font should be changing according to the paragraph style, but it just stays as it was.

   I'm not sure what is going on, but I hope Adobe can fix these bugs!

4. Keyboard Shortcuts dont work often with InDesign

   Using windows 10 - InDesign 2020

   Keyboard shortcuts often will not work, forcing me to minimize or restart the program to get them to work again. Very annoying.

   shortcuts that I am using for example( W to enter workspace mode, Ctrl-Z for undoing and even Ctrl-S to save)

   Adobe, stop adding features until you fix the issues that are present. especially ones that have been around for years or months.

5. Guides/Grids not showing

   InDesign16.02 & 16.01

   For some reason today, when I opened an InDesign file from a packaged InDesign folder in the latest version of InDesign, I could not view the page margins, document grid, baseline grid or ruler guides. I tried toggling them with the shortcuts and by directly selecting them from the InDesign menu. I uninstalled the latest version and tried the previous to make sure it wasn't a version issue. I had the same result. No grids or guides would show no matter what I tried. I checked the threshold and made sure I was within it which I was.

   I tried opening another InDesign filed that had been packaged and I had the same result. I have tried this both on my iMac and my Macbook with the same result.

   I was finally able to get the guides to show when I opened the IDML file from the packaged folder.

   I believe this is a bug when opening packaged INDD files.

6. Typing after pasting

   When pasting text in a story, the first character typed after pasting doesn’t work. For example, if I paste the character “s” then try to type “port” (so it becomes “sport”), it will only start typing at the “o,” so I will have “sort” instead of “sport.”

   I have this problem on my MacBook Air as well as on a Windows machine, so it’s not an OS issue

7. None of my windows float in when I open Indesign version 15.1.1

   The app is running, but none of my windows float in when I open my file.
   I can't access any of my tools, pages, or layers... This is the only thing I'm able to see which is only my document. But I can't work without the tools! How can I fix this issue? I already tried restarting my computer, uninstalling and re-installing Indesign 15.1.1 and nothing has worked.

8. Text Frame Issues

   Can't find this so hopefully this is new, but every time I nudge a text box with my arrow keys it ends up somehow shrinking the box or something because I get an arrow saying there's text outside the frame. It's fine... I nudge it once with the arrow key and I get the little red error box in the corner.

9. CC Library Issues

   2 CC Libraries bugs since the new update:
   - "Search current library" not working, you aren't able to type anything in
   - When opening the CC libraries window, if you have multiple monitors the window will appear blank, but the thumbnails of all your items in the library will be on the other monitor. Adobe Illustrator does the same. The only fix I've found so far is snapping the window to the other monitor.

10. creative cloud libraries bug

    Hi, in indesign creative cloud libraries is borked. In each library only the top level will show and only four items from that level, all folders within a library show as empty. True for all libraries. They all load fine in illustrator/photoshop etc.

    Latest version as of 27/03/2024. Windows 11.

    reinstalled, reset prefs etc. Not helping issue only present in indesign, seriously impeding work flow. please fix

11. Bug Report – PDF Export from Book Produces Low-Resolution Images (InDesign 20.x+)

    Summary:

    Exporting a PDF directly from a book (.indb) using book.exportFile() produces a PDF with low-resolution images, even though the source links are updated and the documents contain high-resolution images. This issue started occurring in version 20.x and was not present in earlier versions.
    Steps to Reproduce:

    Create a book (.indb) containing multiple documents with high-resolution images.
    
    Update links in the individual documents.
    
    Use book.exportFile(ExportFormat.PDF_TYPE, ...) to export the entire book as a PDF.
    
    The output PDF contains low-resolution images, noticeable especially when printing or zooming in.
    

    Expected Result:

    The exported PDF should contain images at full resolution, matching the quality of PDFs exported from individual documents using doc.exportFile().
    Actual Result:

    PDF exported from the book contains low-resolution images, differing from PDFs exported from individual documents.
    Workaround:

    Currently, the issue can be avoided by first merging the documents from the book into a single INDD file, updating the links, and then exporting the PDF from that merged document.

12. crash

    For several days we've had crashes while Indesign CC 2019 (14.0.01) being idle. Might be because links (*.psp and/or *.indd) are breaking due to network issues, but should not crash even so, just say links are broken. This has resulted in several files corrupted and cannot be restored even if those documents themselves are not affected by the broken links. The Indesign temp-files also seem to become corrupt (often showing 0 byte size).

    I've sent several crash reports and heard nothing.

    To identify the cause of this issue, we had started our investigation with the aim to resolve it. You might have also received email from us seeking more details to help in our investigation.

    We’ve concluded our investigation and came up with the finding : Either the issue is fixed in the latest release of InDesign or the issue was intermittent in nature at the time of its reporting and is not reproducible now.

    We recommend you to upgrade to the latest version of InDesign 2020.0.1 (if you’re not already on it). It contains a lot of stability fixes.

13. Keyboard shortcuts to resize assets suddenly stop working

    InDesign V19.5 on MacOS Sequoia 15.0.1.

    Keyboard shortcuts to resize assets on a spread stop working once a document has been open for a while. Shortcuts such as CMD+ALT+Click to resize container box and the asset within, while maintaining proportions, CMD+click to resize container, while maintaining proportions, don't work.

    The only fix I've found is to restart my Mac. Closing and reopening InDesign doesn't fix the issue.

14. Opening idml from CC2021 crashes CC2020 but not CC2019 and earlier

    When I save file as an idml from CC2021 I cannot open it in CC2020 as it crashes. CC2019 and earlier can open idml files from CC2021. It seems to be an issue only with CC2020. I've managed to open a 1 page blank document with CC2020 from CC2021, but anything that I've worked properly on crashes when the idml is opened in CC2020. I've attached an example.

15. Rulers exceeding text boundaries, only paragraph shading or offsets seem to be able to limit them

    The issue is described in this thread (sample .INDD file link included in the thread to reproduce the issue):

    The excess rulers that go beyond the text boundary can only be removed (or masked, not sure which is actually happening) with paragraph shading.

    As a rule, rulers should not go beyond the text boundary, and they should adapt to the text boundary (if font size have been changed, or if other changes have been made that affect the layout).

    But the green arrows show that in some cases the boundary is correct.

    It shouldn't be necessary to add both offsets and paragraph shading to get the rulers right.

    The paragraph shading trick is not a real solution, that I guess is just overlapping the rulers but it does not trim them.

16. PDF Export causes Acrobat to crash

    I am having trouble exporting InDesign files to PDF.

    This is what I'm seeing:
    Exporting PDFs from InDesign works fine if no PDF is open. If you have a PDF already open or are exporting a 2nd PDF with the first still open it crashes Adobe.

    I have updated Windows to a later version, checked drivers, the event viewer logs. I looked for similar issues online, repaired Acrobat from Control panel and from within the app.

    Please share any advice.

17. InDesign Strips Formatting When Pasting Text from Google Docs

    When copying formatted text from Google Docs and pasting it directly into Adobe InDesign, all formatting (such as bold, italics, font size, and links) is lost. 18. Paragraph border/ shading error with anchored objects

    when anchored objects (such as column Text or line numbers) are anchored in a Text using the options "Paragraph border" and "paragraph Shading" the borders and Shades will "randomly" disappear, or new border-lines will appear (when more then one paragraphs are merged, the lines always appear between the different styles, even though they work fine again when the object is de-anchored). Sometimes the appearance doesn't change when an object is anchored, but when the anchored object is edited (for example, when the size of the anchored object is changed).

    This is reproducable on my Windows 10, using InDesign 15.1.4.

    The problem also sometimes appears when an object is anchored in a text using Paragraph border/ shading, when text anywhere else in the same story is edited.

    This issue continues to be seen in a PDF, which makes it really hard to have a stable document using this paragraph style options.

19. Latest Indesign Slowdown on M1 Chip

    I am on the Macbook M1 Air with 16.2 and still experiencing random slowdowns when editing text, moving images, all the basic functions of InDesign.

    I have removed all Adobe CC apps, removed all plugins, used a cleaner. I am now running the latest clean Silicon version of InDesign and experiencing the same issues.

    I turned off GPU enhancements as folks recommended, which helped, but it still shows the beachball from time to time whenever I try a simple task.

20. Cannot delete empty pages

    I have empty pages at the end of my chapter. There are text frames on them, because they got created automatically. There is no content in the text frames. If I delete the page, it's gone until I scroll, then it re-appears. If I delete the text frame, the page duplicates itself. I've seen the issue described in the forums, but the solution is such a hack.
