  1. Bad bug when previewing image area beyond the picture box crop

There’s a terribly bad bug when previewing image cropping. If you click on an image and hold the cursor down, to preview the image area beyond the picture box window, InDesign literally moves the image inside by a few pixels, so, a) it doesn’t accurately show where you HAD the image placed, and b) you always have to Undo Move Item to restore where you had it placed, which makes picture cropping preview completely useless.

A simple fix would be to show a ghost of what is being cropped when you select the image so that it shows the…

  2. Export options locked

Hi., When customising the Workspace [ i.e. colouring menus and adding Panels to the Panel Dock ] on an Apple Mac, and then subsequently using File->Export, the Drop down list of Export formats are locked out [ i.e. I cannot go from PDF Print to any other format ]. To resolve I have to go back to one of the default Workspaces such as Essentials etc, and then the Dropdown can be accessed. This happens in all recent releases of InDesign including 2019. I imagine the root cause of the fault is more the colouring of the menus rather than…

  3. Can't type letter "n" in text boxes

For some reason I can't type the letter "n" in text boxes in indesign v 17.3 on Windows 10.

In some text boxes, typing "n" does not generate the letter. In tables, typing "n" can sometimes change the cell style or paragraph style, and does not generate the letter.

I don't have caps lock or a stuck control / alt key ... Everything else is working fine.

  4. Converted linked InDesign document saved in last used folder, not folder where it lives

    Steps to reproduce:

    1. Have an InDesign document with a linked InDesign document. That linked document is saved by an older version.
    2. Open linked document by Alt-double clicking.
    3. Save file. You are now presented with the last used folder, not the folder that the linked document lives in.

    This USED to work fine.

  5. Bug: Cannot cancel or requeue background tasks, ID keeps activating fonts for good

    Indesign 2024, Windows 10.
Problem 1: even with Adobe Fonts being activated, ID 2024 starts to activate fonts it finds in \Fonts folder, doing that for good and the tasks cannot be canceled.
Problem 2: other tasks, like PDF export, are then queued and cannot be processed at all unless you could move them up the queue, which doesn't work.

  6. CC Library panel freezes and is unusable until InDesign is re-launched

In the last update or perhaps the one prior, the CC Library panel freezes and is unusable. You can't select anything, search for anything, or change libraries.

Closing the panel and opening it again has no affect.

The only workaround is to quit and re-launch InDesign. The panel will then work for a time but will freeze again at some point.

This horrendous bug is in addition to a new annoying one where you can't drag and drop a graphic from the document INTO the CC Library panel to add it. You have to select the graphic, then click the…

  7. Color picker HSB interface not working correctly

    Indesign 2021 v16.1

While using the new HSB interface in the Color Picker, when any of the the "HSB" radials are selected, the chosen color values change to something completely different. Please see the uploaded pictures for an example.

When the cursor is dropped into the any of the CMYK value entires, the color changes back to what was intended.

If the selected object still has a color thats chosen in HSB is sampled and applied to another object. the new object's color will show up in the color picker as the intended color but with a in-gamut color option…

  8. Hairlines/artifacts randomly appearing on screen

    1) InDesign 16.1 (and othre versions)

    2) Place an image or object. Apply a drop shadow. Pan/scroll, zoom, enable or dissable output preview

    3) Consistent rendering.

    4) Glitches of bands of light or dark pixels may appear over images, in transparencies and effects. These may come and go depending on resolution preview mode, zoom and/or if overprint preview is rendered. (The lines are similar to tiling lines in PDFx1a in that they are rendering glitches presumably caused by floating point calculations)

    See the thread https://community.adobe.com/t5/indesign/lines-appearing-in-effects-shadow-amp-gradient/m-p/11912229#M419035

  9. Adding a word starting with the Danish letter æ makes InDesign crash

Add a word starting with the Danish letter æ to an index invariably crashes InDesign, both the small æ and the capital Æ, no matter which method we use. Words where this letter is not placed at the beginning, like “bæverfælde", are no problem, nor are the two other Danish characters ø and å.
We also tried to add the words from a list, using a script which places index markers on every instance in the document; this did not make InDesign crash, but no entries were added either :-(
Perhaps connected to the fact that it is no longer…

  10. Logical bug: font weight change to bold and back

System: ID version 17.4.2 on Windows 10.
Problem: some fonts have weights like "Light", next to Regular and Bold. If a text is set to weight Light and you change to Bold by Ctrl+Shift+B, the text becomes bold. When changing it back, it doesn't become Light, but Regular. The logic would be to check if there is a paragraph style applied and what's its default weight and use this when "unbolding".

  11. Assigned Shift+Delete to Edit→Cut; it does not work

It's quite annoying that Adobe products doesn't support the Ctrl+Insert, Shift+Delete and Shift+Insert (Copy, Cut and Paste) operations by default. All other software on Windows does support so everybody is used with this.

So I assigned the above shortcuts via Edit→Keyboard Shortcuts...
The Ctrl+Insert and Shift+Insert works, but the Shift+Delete (Cut) doesn't. It seems to me a bug, Shift+Delete being hard-coded and it's taking precedence over the assigned key combination.

  12. Alt-PgDn inserts glyph after moving to next spread

    InDesign 16.0 x64

Normally (and on the MAC), the user can press Alt/Opt+PgDn to center the next spread on the screen.

This is now broken on Windows. At least on the 2 PC's I use, both of which are up to date on Windows and Creative Cloud.

What happens now is that when the Alt key is released, a glyph is inserted into the text. And this causes the display to jump back so the insertion point is visible on screen.

Of course, if I'm not currently editing inside a text frame, the glyph doesn't appear, because there's no place…

  14. Keyboard commands do not respond in document until text field is selected

    Indesign 14.0.2 x64
    Windows 10

After opening any document, the keyboard does not work. Print, open, and quick key selections for tool will not register until I select the type tool with the mouse, and click on a text field so that the cursor appears.

I then have to click on the selection black arrow tool for any keys to start working. I use mainly quick key shortcuts and commands all day, so this occurs every new document opened.

Could you please try clearing up(or renaming) your preferences and cache for InDesign 2019(14.0).
If you still face the issue after doing the above, please share with us some screenshots and(or) small video demonstrating the problem.

  15. Fit Content to Frame on textbox makes huge gap at the bottom

    InDesign 16.1 x64 on Windows 10

When I select a textbox and select Fit Frame to Content (by shortcut, menu or toolbar button), the textbox is resized correctly on the horizontal plane, but the height of textbox jumps to an incredibly stupid size.

Double-clicking on the bottom centre textbox frame handle then resizes the height correctly - thus creating an extra step for the functionality that was previously a single shortcut key.

    Video attached.

  16. Menu item "Convert footnotes and endnotes" missing

Although my software is up to date, the option "Convert footnotes to endnotes" is missing from my "Type" menu item (image). The interface is in portuguese, but you can see there are only four itens on the footnote/endnote area, the fifth ("Convert footnote to endnote") is really missing...
I tried unistalling and installing InDesign again from Creative Cloud but it didn´t solve this issue. This menu item is also unavailable on Edit>Menus...

  18. portrait mode - Whether at 125% or 100% the Indesign Interface scaling option under Preferences does not work.

BUG DETAILS- On a Monitor that is setup in a Portrait configuration, whether at 125% or 100% display scale in Windows Settings, the Indesign Interface scaling option under Preferences does not work.

Adobe is a publishing software, especially InDesign. Book Publishers and their graphic design team need to have the option of working in a monitor setup in a Portrait configuration for the purpose of full vertical page (height) dimensions. I cannot get Indesign to Scale the Interface at all under Preferences when monitors are set in Portrait configuration. This is a bug because the InDesign interface does scale…

  19. Fonts defined in existing Paragraph / Character Styles Missing after Creative Cloud font type change

    VERSION: InDesign 2022 V 17.0.1

We activated the Museo Sans Rounded font via Creative Cloud and have used it in our documents since 2015. Until recently, the font activated by CC had a font type of OpenType Type 1. This font is still available on CC, but its font type appears to have changed to OpenType True Type.

Documents that used the OpenType Type 1 font in a Paragraph or Character style now show this font as missing. The missing font name now displays as Museo Sans Rounded (OTF) in Find / Replace fonts and Paragraph and Character Styles panels.…

  20. spotcolor name in x-4 exported pdf not a valid utf-8 string

When creating a PDF using german umlauts using InDesign for OS X and export the file as PDF/X-4, the Umlauts are displayed correctly in Acrobat for OS X, but wrong in Acrobat for Windows (and vice versa).

Acrobat Preflight flags the spot colors as " not a valid UTF-8 string"

It looks like the spot colors is generated with the coding of the respective OS, which is not valid by the PDF/X-4 specification
