Locking Tab Bar
It would be really helpful if the user had the ability to lock the tabs bar under the rulers in inDesign. It's an annoyance to have it floating and having to re-open it constantly. It would be nice to have the tabs panel located right underneath the ruler and then give the option to hide it or show it.

Make other type of non-separable characters
Sometimes, on dealing with math questions, we need to use measurament unities like "kg/cm²" and the character "/" wrap the line, separating a measure that is one itself. So I think it might be nice to include other non-separable characters than space and hyphen, like non-separable "!", "()", "/", ", etc. Maybe it could be even an option in the character panel...

A new Switch tool
Instead of ctrl+c, and ctrl+v, it could be invented a new function that switches existing text from a sentence to another. I would find it particularly useful in tables.
Ex:
I would like green apples
I would like yellow lemonsSelect green, ctrl+whatever, select yellow
Now I have
I would like yellow apples

Colour picker
Bring back the old Eyedropper tool, or make it an option.. The RGB one is pretty useless when working in print.

Integrated controls for styles
I think it would be more intuitive to integrate styles in with the manual controls they go with, especially for character and paragraph styles, like so:
-slide the panel left to see the current settings and make manual changes, slide the panel right to switch to a new style.
-When you look at the manual controls, every element has an icon to show that it is matching a style, and another icon shows if an override is applied.
-click an override icon to remove that specific override1 vote -
Bullet lists: add option for custom spacing of first and last entries
In a paragraph style defined as a bullet list, you often need to have more space BEFORE THE FIRST item or AFTER THE LAST item. This is possible in CSS and would just need a couple of extra fields added to the "Bullets and Numbering" section in the "Paragraph Style" panel.
The only option now is to create additional styles or to use overrides.
2 votesUse the Indents and Spacing section of the Paragraph Style dialog to specify Space Before and Space After. Use the option “Space Between Paragraphs Using Same Style” to specify the space between the bulleted list items.
For example, if Space Before is 6 pt, Space After is 8 pt, and Space Between is 0 pt, the bulleted list will have 6 pt before the 1st item, 8 pt after the last item and in between the bulleted list items, space will be 0 pt.

InDesign Cannot Set Actual Text
InDesign has no way of setting actual text. This can only be done in PDF. Actual text is set when acronyms are used. Access technologies such as screen readers cannot properly read acronyms such as USA. They voice them as words, like "Youusah." Actual text has to be set for the document to be read correctly. This is a painstaking process that requires InDesign users to learn PDF Remediation, a highly specialized skillset that is typically outside the role of the average Graphic Designer. Adding interactivity for Windows 10
Interactivity is not yet available for Digital Publishing on Windows 10 OS. Until it does, it would be great if inDesign had a panel where you could write code to create hyperlink and button navigation.

Besides entering coordinate values, does InDesign have a function to align two path points?
For aligning one or two points, the best way is probably to enter coordinate values, but can it be a bit slow sometimes.
Wouldn't it be cool to have this feature in the alignment panel.

Toggle "Preview" ON by default
I'd like to see the effect of what I'm doing e.g. in the Paragraph panel by default. Can't find this in the application or on Google. This could easily be an option in the Preferences.

Color/swatches Library
In PS and AI, there're a lot of built-in color/gradient libraries, and when you want to select a color, you ca just append them or open a color library, but in indesign, there're no ways you can do so, a lot of the color selecting work is done by guessing unless you know which color you want to choose
I hope there will be a built-in color library (if the interactive buttons can have a built-in library and why don't we add a sample color library?

Deleting and merging layers functions
Many times with large files or files that have been passed to you from other designers, you may have to clean up the layers, and delete or merge layers. It would be great if when you go to delete a layer and you are notified that it has one or more objects on it, that it would tell you what pages those objects are on, so you can go there and deal with those objects (ie the Preflight panel when there are errors on particular pages). Remove the floating "help with a feature items"
I wanted to share some feedback regarding a recent usability issue I’ve experienced across several Creative Cloud applications, including Illustrator, InDesign, Photoshop, and Acrobat.
In recent updates, each of these programs has introduced tool-specific pop-up panels or hints that appear when a tool is selected. While I understand the intent is to offer helpful tips or highlight features, these pop-ups are consistently disruptive to my workflow. They frequently appear directly over the content I'm working on and are difficult to reposition. Overhaul Bullets and Numbering and add features to make it useful.
Right now the bullets and numbering features are so limited and feel like an afterthought. Here is what I need in order of importance:
The ability to format bullets/numbers so they ignore extra line spaces.
The ability to align the bullets to the center. Placed Vector image line weight override
I work primarily with line art vector files created for instruction sheets. We create the views using a 3D modeling program, save them as PDFs, and then edit them in Illustrator. The images are then placed in InDesign and scaled to fit the page along with the other content. The problem is that the scaled line art stroke weight will scale larger or smaller as it is changed.

Export All Alternate Layouts as PDFs With Layout Name
I use the alternate layout tool a lot to group different sized content in the same InDesign file.
While I know I can select the layout as a range during export, it would be a huge timesaver to be able to export all of my layouts as separate PDFs and then just add the alternate layout name to the end of the PDF file.
Ideally this could be a check box in the export settings "export each alternate layout as a separate file"
12 votesInDesign versions CC2018 and above have an option called ‘Create Separate PDF Files’ in the Export PDF dialog. Using this option, you should be able to export all your layouts as separate PDFs.

Clearer comment navigation in share for review
click on a comment and have the comments panel scroll to the comment clicked, make the active comment highlight more visible and don't unmap comments when the text is deleted but delete the comments with the text.

Please make the reflect tool work the same way as in illustrator!
It works completely opposite of Illustrator which makes it super confusing if you're switching between them (i.e. to do the same transformation, you have to use a horizontal reflection in indesign and a vertical one in illustrator.) A preview like in illustrator would be great too.
