Stop making new folders when I save individual pages to PDFs.
For my magazine, I export multiple files (over 15) to the same name+page number with the page number being the only difference. The new export feature keeps making a subset folder with the same name which screws up copying the files to the first folder. I have to rename the subset folder, copy the files to the original folder and delete the subset folder. I prefer it not to make a folder at all.

Allow GREP Styles to apply to merged text
GREP Styles cannot be applied to the results of a merged document, either when printing or exporting to PDF or when creating a merged document. This should be fixed.
See the attached screenshot. Numbers blurred, but clearly the Invisible style is not being applied.

Indesign CC: PDF Export dialog - start with highlighted range entry field - like you used to
Indesign CS6 used to start with a conveniently highlighted pages entry field. Opening the export dialog you were right away able to type in the desired page range. In CC you have to tripple-TAB to that field, which is a mild but unnecessary deterioration.
Thanks if you fix this.

Please allow for more than 1 inch of Offset for Printer's Marks when exporting PDFs
Some vendors require more than 1" of bleed, especially on larger format layouts.
Currently have to build layouts at reduced size to accomplish this.8 votes -

Layers panel addressing one page at a time (even with spreads) for 508 compliancy
My agency has to do a lot of remediation to our files to meet accessibility requirements. Currently we use the layers panel to arrange objects on the page so that the reading order makes sense when the PDFs are read using assistive software. With files set up in spreads, all items on the spread are considered in the reading order despite the final PDF being output as single pages. It would be nice if the layers panel could be configured to address one page at a time (vs. two pages, as it is now). For simple projects, the spread…

Variable Spot Colors from Illustrator Definable in InDesign
The ability to create a vector graphic in Illustrator, fill it with a variable spot color swatch (ie "Variable Color 1/2/3" etc.) and then when that spot color is imported into InDesign you can define it to match your project. Ideally on a per-instance basis, but even just editing the color globally from the swatches panel would be a big help. It would save hiving to make multiple versions of a graphic for each color you need - and that you may never need again.
For now my workaround is to make a layered PDF from Illustrator with a layer…

Remember last export format
The recently released feature to remember export settings and have them stick with individual documents was a good concept, but it has not been fully implemented.
As it stands, all it remembers is the 'type' of file that was exported – which in most cases is pretty pointless. I'm sure people know when they export their file whether it needs too be an EPS or a PDF.
What I thought the feature was going to be was something that remembered the complete export settings – for example with a print PDF it could keep the info relating to compression…

Footnotes and Endnotes
1a. Export as RichTextFormat ... should include Footnotes and Endnotes.
1b. Export as HTML ... should include hyperlinked Footnotes and Endnotes.
1c. Should have option to convert Footnotes and Endnotes to static text. This option should also be available when exporting as per above.
1d. Above exports should also include any images that are part of the text flow, with an option of converting them to JPEG at a particular resolution.
2. This would save having to muck around with the HTML code, or manually create static endnote numbers.2 votes -

Larger preview window on Place image dialog box
When picking images in a multi-page document from a PDF or Adobe Illustrator files, it would be nice to see a preview size bigger than the 125x125-ish window that is used in the dialog box. Thanks!

Improve Preflight
Isn’t it about time for an update and some enhancements to this great feature? Some suggestions:
- Change the default Preflight Profile to something realistic for quality printing. The absence of warnings is misleading, making people think that everything is fine.
- Divide the check for “Protected fonts” into two categories: 1. Fonts which do not allow embedding in PDF, 2. Activated Adobe fonts (the existing behaviour of flagging Adobe fonts as “not allowed” causes a lot of confusion)
- Change the wording “Transparency not allowed” to just “Transparency” Transparency is rarely a problem nowadays, though it is still good to check…

Exporting an InDesign document to a HTML5 document
It would be great if InDesign will have the possibility in the near future to export/convert an InDesign document to a HTML5 document. Now you have to buy an expensive subscription for the In5 Plugin to do this.

Page jump links
Hi! Just finished a document for a client. I had to export it to pdf and create all the page jump links in Acrobat. InDesign wouldn't let me keep the links I created when exporting to pdf. Hyperlinks, yes they work great. Page jump links for documents? We NEED this for client brochures, flipping books etc. I will be giving this artwork to the InHouse team so it's very clunky to have to give them the Packaged InDesign file and a pdf that contains all the selected areas that link to page jumps. I beg of you please for…

File Handling selecting recents..
File handling selectively delete recents.
It would be great if you could selectively delete recent files by right clicking on them with options rename, delete, copy, replace. PDF expert by readdle is has a great way for doing this and is very helpful and fast for filing docs.2 votes -
Improve the preview quality for effects like drop shadows a.s.o.
When applying an effect like drop shadow to an item, the preview is always bad - even in high quality preview. I have to write a PDF to see if the shadow looks like I want it to. Especially with very small/thin shadows, the preview is always pixelated. Please improve that

One-click export profiles
I have to export documents with same content but different header/footer versions for different customers. I'm doing by manually switching master pages. This is not part of the export procedure, but still time consuming enough.
When exporting, it would be nice to have one or mutliple one-click export profiles, like when you need a PDF for web publishing in 150dpi and passworded and another PDF for print in 300dpi, not passworded. My wish: Indesign shall store all settings for an export profile (including password, which it doesn't) and make them avilable as "Save as PDF from profile" with only a…1 vote -
Add feature to toggle on/off "adjust page numbers when hiding spreads" to add behavior option to match CC2024
Request: Add an option to toggle on/off "adjust page numbering when hiding spreads."
The updated Hide Spreads feature that adjusts page numbering when spreads are hidden is only useful in documents where you may have alternate versions of pages, but not when you are just trying to export unique sample pages from a long document. We have multiple users that had used Hide Spreads in CC2024 to easily exclude pages from a PDF export instead of having to type in page ranges to export. The original page numbers are critical to keep for functions like "see page 31 for an…

Batch Export indb
I would need to have the ability to batch export a folder of books to pdf. The community scripts are not enough—there are features missing.
Also batch export would have to have
– auto update links in documents,
– auto closing and saving (otherwise page numbers are wrong in shared documents).2 votes -
Add items during packaging
I hope you can also include additional files during packaging. When we package files, we usually include 3 PDF files (Print Quality for Readers, with Bleed for the Printer, and Low Quality for uploading online. In addition to the PDF files, we add another file which is the cover of the publication in JPEG format. Hope this will be added in the future. Thanks.
