Provide Ability to Print Selection
Where I work, we create printed publications and also design advertisements for these publications. All of our advertisements are designed in a document using a standard InDesign template with a grid. This template is the same size as our publications and is larger than the standard letter size page dimensions that we like to print our proofs. The problem is that in order to print proofs on letter size paper, the ad must always be shrunk because of the larger document template dimensions. So, the ad always appears much small than it really is when printed. We could just simply design each ad in the top left corner of the document and print actual size with appropriate positioning, however, we also use a slug, that must appear on each printed proof.
Simply put, we consistently have the need to print InDesign artwork that is significantly smaller than the larger InDesign document page that we design on. The ability to print a selection would allow us to print our artwork at actual size, without shrinking to accommodate the larger document page size.
Additionally, this same feature would be helpful when exporting a pdf, for the same reason.

Yes, when printing to tile the page a preview as implemented in Illustrator would be great. Even the ability to zoom the little thumbnail to get a better view.
Alternatively the ability to set print areas via a tool prior to printing to be able to set multiple areas? May get too complicated...
Often with large scaled artwork I tend to make PDFs and then drop them into another 'mockup' file at 1:1 to print samples of areas/text etc. Placing Indesign into another Indesign file tends to get error prone and crash. This would alleviate the extra step.

I see why you need this. Would tiling as implemented in Illustrator work? I always found it cumbersome to set up.
