1. Table numbering and easier cross-reference/text anchor setup in tables

   It would be nice to be able to automatically number a specific row by just pressing a button, instead of using the "End Nested Style Here" command and copying/pasting in the following rows. It would also be nice if the corresponding column would read the number and be able to set up a text anchor for a paragraph number cross-reference.

2. alignment and custom footnotes etc

   I would like to see some more feature as described below, so this powerful too will be a step ahead for an Advance Page Layout tool. Here are some of them:

   1. Some custom footnotes so can can add daggers and other symbols exactly like MSWord not the current features. This should be like first symbol, then 1, 2, 3 etc.

   2. Customizing Text box sequence so it will be more intuitive for numbering figures. Think about I've add 100 of figures numbering text box using numbering features, then at editing page need to rearrange/adding/remove some figures, in this it won't work until rearrange text box. It'll help some kind of features to rearrange text box etc.

   I would like to see some more feature as described below, so this powerful too will be a step ahead for an Advance Page Layout tool. Here are some of them:

3. A check box to Remove Local Formatting in an auto TOC.

   You include a checkbox to Remove Forced Line Breaks in the text styles used for the auto TOC so why not one to Remove Local Formatting so the text style can display exactly the way you set it in the TOC styles dialogue. Now one must select all the text and set Character Style to None every time the TOC is updated which is inefficient. Thanks.

4. Make editing of hidden Conditional Texts easier

   When working on texts with hidden conditional texts in it, I frequently have to do corrections inside the hidden texts either. It would be great, if hidden conditional text would be visible and editable e.g. in the story editor, without changing the visibility in the conditional text panel.

   Or make it expandable in the story editor by clicking on the eye symbol ...

6. Style hierarchy

   It would be nice if you could easily see as one of the views of styles (paragraph, character, and object) a hierarchy of which styles are based on each other. Like a cascade of styles. I work on long documents and books that use LOTS of styles and besides the normal view and alphabetical view, it would be nice to be able to "sort" by hierarchy, perhaps with the swivel arrow, like when you have different styles in grouped folders. For instance, we have "text" and then "text left" and "text centered," and so on, but they are all based on "text," and on down from there. . . . so it would help give a visual of the complicated structure of our styles and see more easily if I have my child styles based on the correct parent style.

7. Need a Tab with GREP/Style Change setting instead of just decimal

   SHORT DESCRIPTION: A new type of tab which will accept multiple align characters in a GREP-like statement and/or align on a style change.

   The video provides a longer description. In tables involving figures and footnotes, a decimal tab is often not enough. What if the footnote is a number, or the footnote is surrounded by parenthesis? These are things which our clients specify for tables in the financial reporting industry, but apply to other industries as well.

   If we could specify multiple characters to align upon, in a GREP-like "or" statement, that would help. Or the ability to align on a style/formatting change, which would be good to include in the GREP-like statement as well.

   This is valuable to us because it means our financial tables could be set up much faster and cleaner, instead of the trick we use now (align on zero-width characters, inserted mostly via script).

   Allow for tabbing option for right-aligned Text that utilizes tabs to move through the tab stops from right to left, starting with the right-most tabs first and move left accordingly rather than moving to the left-most tab first then filling back in toward the right.

9. Online InDesign document for client text edits — like InCopy but online without the need for technical know-how or files to move around

   I wish there was a way to post InDesign files online that would easily allow proofreaders, editors, clients or anyone without a lot of technical know-how to log in and make text edits. Freeing up designers from spending countless hours making text edits.

   We tried InCopy, but we store files on a shared server and move files up and down through a project management tool. Being able to properly move the InDesign and linked icml files was way too confusing for our writers and proofreaders and out of the question for clients.

   When we work on PPT presentations, we post the presentation on Office 365 and everyone could log in and make changes. The same is true when we work on Websites, by using AEM. And, for HTML email, we use a drag and drop email builder that allows the whole team to log in and make text edits. I wish that was possible for print material created in InDesign. There may be web-to-print tools, but moving away from Adobe is out of the question.

   Maybe there could be an InDesign feature similar to Publish Online but include a way for someone to log in and make text edits. Somehow the Local InDesign files would need to connect to that online document to automatically update the local InDesign file. Maybe, the designer would download icml files similar to an InCopy workflow.

10. Set an increment for auto-sized text boxes

    When making a text box auto-sized, it would be good to set how much it expands by, be it 0.5mm, 1mm etc. I use it for laying out org charts, and to set the spacing between each box it helps when they are sized to be even 1mm sizes and sit at y value of an even number. If the box ends up auto-sized to 23.34mm then starting the next box at a y value of 25mm means a 1.66mm space between the two boxes instead of a nice even 2mm or something. If I could set it so that if a box needs to expand it does so in even 1mm increments this would mean nice, regularly-sized text boxes.

11. 字取り機能の改善リクエスト (improvement to "jidori" feature request)

    日本語版独自の「字取り」機能で設定できるのは「文字数」に限られているため、不便な場面が多いです。
    文字数以外の設定はテキストフレーム/フレームグリッドに関わらずフレームグリッド設定に依存します。これを知らずに「字取り」を使いこなせていないユーザーも多いです。

    添付画像 1 に示したのは、私が不便だと感じたケースの全てです。そして（ ）の中には私の仕事での主な使い道です。
    本文とはサイズの異なる文字（見出し段落に字取りを用いる場合が多い）
    字間の広げられたフレームでの挙動（おまけ）
    ストーリー内に配置された、文字サイズの異なる表（一般に表の文字サイズは本文より小さい場合が多い）

    私はこれらの問題を、アンカー付きオブジェクトを挿入、
    あるいは「字取り」を用いずに、
    ホワイトスペースを挿入、トラッキングで調節、文字前後のアキ設定
    などで代用しています。
    つまり、とても不便なのです。

    今回、代案を考えてみました。なかなかの時間をかけました。
    皆さんの賛同が欲しいです。

    従来のグラフィカルなコントロールを廃止し、フライアウトメニューに格納することで、より詳細な設定を可能にすることを提案します。

    jidori feature improvement request

    The "Jidori" function unique to the Japanese version can only be set to "character count," which is inconvenient in many situations.
    Settings other than the number of characters depend on the frame grid settings regardless of the text frame/frame grid. Many users are unaware of this and are not able to use the "Jidori" function well.

    Attached image 1 shows all the cases I found inconvenient. And in parentheses ( ) are the main usages in my work.
    -Characters of different size from the main text (in many cases, the character spacing is used for heading paragraphs)
    -Behavior in frames with extended character spacing (an added bonus)
    -Tables of different font sizes placed within a story (in general, the font size of tables is often smaller than the body text)

    I have solved these problems by inserting anchored objects,
    or without using "Jidori",
    I have used whitespace, tracking adjustments, and tracking/leading aki.
    In other words, it is very inconvenient.

    This time, I tried to come up with an alternative. It took me quite a long time.
    I would like VOTE.

    Attached image 2 is a screenshot of the text panel.
    I propose to do away with the traditional graphical controls and store them in a fly-out menu.
    This should be handled in the same way as "TateChuYoko", "WariChu", or "Underline" and "Strikeout".

    Attached image 3 shows an idea for a settings dialog.
    First, a checkbox at the top, similar to the other functions.
    This will turn on/off the "Jidori".
    Next, radio buttons for
    1 3 elements (Font size, number of characters, and character spacing),
    2 Directly set the characters width (or height for vertical formatting).
    Choose one of the above.

    How do you like it?

    The only slight drawback is that it is not compatible with lower versions of the application at all.
    But isn't it nice?

12. Remove the maximum cell height in tables

    I often use tables in more technical posters as a frame for graphics with caption.
    I experienced that a cell height of about 220 mm is the maximum for tables.
    If you have larger graphics this is not enough.

13. Make Anchored text box and table content visible in InCopy story editor

    Anchored objects only appear as icons in the InCopy story editor tab. This is no problem for photos and graphics, however:

    My editors can't see tracked changes if they can't view the anchored text or tables in the Story Editor. They can make edits in Layout view, but can't tell if another editor made any edits.

    Unlike InDesign where I can see track changes in the Story editor just by clicking in the anchored text or table, InCopy has no alternative — editors have only the Story tab and it doesn't appear there.

    This is a crucial feature for us. We are now designing for ADA compliance and use anchored objects, text and tables to maintain reading order.

    Unfortunately, anchored text and tables slow down the editing process as our editors switch between views, and reduce accuracy since they can't see tracked changes. This feature will help improve the speed and accuracy of our production of ADA compliant PDFs. Thanks!

    Anchored objects only appear as icons in the InCopy story editor tab. This is no problem for photos and graphics, however:

14. Break link to imported text or table

    Option to create links when placing text or spredsheet files is great, but usually at the last moment it would be very handy to be able to completely brake link to one or more word etc documents even if they are missing. Best way would be able to sort all by document types on link window, select them and then break links. No embed etc. Just break it comletely.

    InDesign is usually employed in post-production, after the auther had finished writing a book, a screenwriter his script. You could make inDesign the tool of choice for writers, thanks to its wonderful authoring experience. Enhanced long document editor. This opens the market for independent publishers and authors to make their creation end-to-end, from inception to finish

17. Differentiate Native Styles vs Styles that came in with copy/pasted text

    I would like for there to be some type of differentiation between Styles in documents when copy/pasting or bringing in new styles. Old styles get mixed up with new ones, some have the same names (body copy for example) so it's hard to tell which ones are from pasted copy and which are the ones I'm currently using in my document.

    Open to any format as long as the Styles from the original document are all in one grouping and any styles from Copy/Pasted text are in another distinct grouping. This could be done by folders, or color-coding, splitting the tool window, etc

18. Interactive Form Fields need to be fully editable (i.e. Color, paragraph styles, Sample Text)

    When exporting an Interactive PDF from InDesign, we still need to be able to assign Colors and Paragraph Styles AND retain the FPO copy we have typeset in the Text box.

    For example, in my attached screenshot, when I choose to export as an Interactive PDF, I need to see all of the copy within the box show up exactly as shown. I have it set up so that it still feels slightly designed (despite being a form) and worded so that the client can follow along and replace certain parts with specific language. Right now upon export, this copy turns into black text without any of what's shown being retained and visible in the Interactive PDF.

19. Hyperlink copy and paste

    Hyperlinks: It would be nice to be able to copy and paste hyperlinks. If you try to copy and paste a text box with a hyperlink or the link itself to another document, the link does not copy. You have manually recreate it.
    Styles for hyperlinks do not copy either. The style copies over, but the hyperlink style reverts to the default.
    Same results if you put the text box with the hyperlink in a library file.
    This is very tedious when you have hyperlinks in hundreds of documents to update.

20. Data merge should include a "Next Record" feature

    Data merge should include a "Next Record" feature, like Word has. I want to merge data into InDesign, but I don't want to duplicate text boxes or pages. I just want to put the placeholders wherever they need to go (like in a table) and merge the data without having a text box for every record.
