Hiding system fonts or warning about using them
Add system fonts in the unauthorized fonts of the preflight panel.
I work in the IT department of a press group; our users work on Mac, but we use a Windows InDesign Server solution to process PDF’s. Our users are warned that they should use only OTF fonts but some of them ignore these warnings.
The other solution would be to be able to hide system fonts in the font dropdown menu.

Please consider giving feedback to Apple on this subject as well. This wouldn't be an issue if Apple moved nonessential fonts out of the protected part of the OS and allowed us control over which fonts we want installed like in the "old days". Maybe if they hear from enough users they might change their thinking on this as well. One can hope...

I'm sick to the back teeth of scrolling through fonts I'm not going to use, and can't remove. I use Apple Pages too. And lo, no long list of fonts, no sign of the dreaded Noto Sans font!
If Apple can do it for their own software, what's preventing other software from doing it?

Yes!!!! Need a way to block Mac OS System Fonts in Adobe product menus. Apple has taken user choice away from us. Please Adobe, give it back to us.

With the seemingly infinite number of Noto Sans fonts – among others – installed by MacOS Catalina with no way to uninstall them, it would be amazing for InDesign and the rest of the CC applications to have the option to hide system fonts from their menus.
I mean, this is only half of the Noto Sans in this dropdown list!

I don't typically post, but I had the same thought and goggled "How to hide system fonts Indesign menu; that naturally led me to a dead end, accept for this post. YES, the practical idea of a shorter font list makes sense. After all, no one wants to waste time scrolling by fonts they can easily do without (as stated above). The suggestion is to offer a choice to hide the base OS fonts in the font menu. That option would likely hide 20+ fonts not necessary and if anything get in the way of the font we actually use. Think of it like > BYOF feature ( bring your own fonts :-) It's not hard to imagine the change and it how it could help make picking a font fun again ;-) If you feel the same, take a moment to add in your vote !!
