Setting to automatically update links on Open
Allow an option/setting to disable the dialog when opening a document with updated links and if a link has been updated it updates or doesn't update it automatically based upon the User Setting.

Here is the thing: it takes awhile to load an InDesign project. One would like to (a) use the men's room, (b) mail a letter, etc. and then find it all loaded when one returns. This is often not possible because the undate links or not dialog gets put up. But what if one NEVER avoids updating links? Can't one just set some setting to make this happen? That way the load just continues to the end without user comment.

No Steve checking those boxes doesn't auto update links on an already open document

I'd love this feature too.
Two workarounds:
1) uncheck the first two checkboxes here: Preferences > File Handling > Links and create a keyboard shortcut to update links manually.
2) If you have a lot of documents and wish to update links, you could use Peter Kahrel's famous script "Batch Convert". In the Misc section check "Update modified links before exporting" and "Save changed documents on closing". Use IDML or anything else as target format. It doesn't really matter—all we want the script to do is open, update and save the source files. -

There is already a Setting but i can only tell you in german.
It should be: Preferences > File Handling > Links > First two checkboxes.
