Add context tool bar to normal workspace / change/fix position
At the moment, the context tool bar can only be fixed in its position WITHIN the document window. So it always overlaps the page I am currently working on. That annoys me.
In Photoshop, you can fix its position above the document window, within the normal toolbar.
I would love to see this position ability in Indesign, too. And to be able to save that as a workspace option.Another issue is that if I switch Indesign to another screen (I am working with two monitors) while working, the context toolbar stays in the screen I used when starting Indesign.…

Dropbox missing links error
If links are not available (because they are only online in the dropbox), please provide 1 error message. And not a window that must be clicked for each individual image.
If you have to search older (archive) Indesign files (with hundreds of links), you will be endlessly bombarded with: "Error encountered while reading TIFF image. Image may be damaged or incompatible..."

Align operations on selected anchorpoints from different frames
When selection a series of individual anchorpoints from different frames, I would like to be able to perform operations from the align-window (like distribute centers). Thus making it possible to shape a series of frames in one go. I.e. when you would want an angled side to a series of frames.

Change page size not only centered, but for example add 2 cm to the right side only
It would be super handy if the size could be changed at any direction as easily as with the anchors in "Canvas size" in Photoshop. I know it is possible with the Page Tool, but I would love for it to be "in the right place", i.e. in the Page setup window.

Make it one-click to disable USA English across all documents, existing and yet to be created.
Every new document I create defaults to USA English which is time-consuming to change for everyone who does not use this variation of UK English. Please make it a button on the 'New document' window to select default language, and please make it a tick-box in preferences. It could be worded like this for example 'What is your preferred default language?" and then a drop down. Then every document I open will automatically have the correct dictionary applied without any further time spent. Many thanks.
1 voteYou could accomplish this objective by doing this:
Close all open documents, open the Character panel (Ctrl-T) and change the Language option. Then every time you create a new document, your preferred language will be set for that document.Hope this tip helps.

Don't automatically change view/zoom when editing layer visibility of linked graphics
Editing the layer visibility of a linked graphic in InDesign causes the zoom level to be automatically adjusted to fit-to-page. This makes it difficult to see the preview image for small graphics that may be hard to see at the full page zoom level.
If any automatic zoom adjustment is to be made at all (which it should not) it should be to fit the graphic to the window so you can see what you are doing.

Text frame option
Text frame option is in Object Menu right now. If the Text frame option is in text related groups like "Window>types & table" that would be helpful. Since when vertical alignment of text is required, we have to go to object menu and text frame option. Grouping all text related features would be fine

Command Line
I think this feature would make all Adobe products so much faster, easier to use, and more efficient. Something where you could turn it off and on and type your command, or a custom alias, and immediately activate the tool or menu item you want. It could just be something you toggle in the Window menu and that could appear at the top of the screen under the upper toolbar.

Zoom to selection is not using enough screen real estate
when using shortcut shift-cmd-= to perform a zoom to selection, the object is being centred, which is good, but the zoom view is too small given that there're just too many spaces being left around the object.
Ideally, when zoom to selection this will snugly fit the object just into the window, which I found an interesting coincidence. Say for example, theres an object thats being set to zoom to selection, and the zoom level of it is 30.7% (and just feel how small the object would look on screen at this level), then you multiply this number by 2,…

Break link to imported text or table
Option to create links when placing text or spredsheet files is great, but usually at the last moment it would be very handy to be able to completely brake link to one or more word etc documents even if they are missing. Best way would be able to sort all by document types on link window, select them and then break links. No embed etc. Just break it comletely.

Force / open in full screen view when user views the online document
As can be achieved with standard PDFs, I think it would be useful to have a 'force full screen' option with a pop up warning that says page is requesting full screen - allow or not.
Many documents with heavy content almost 'need' to be fullscreen for the best viewing experience.
This option would remind the user that full-screen is best, but with the pop-up box that allows them to continue in the current window size.

A LIVE word count for booklet files.
Please add a live word count feature for booklet files. I have had to spend a long time copying and pasting to Word to get a total word count for my entire document.
It would be brilliant if there was a live word count at the bottom next to the errors (or simply in the info window) which updates as you type.
While I'm at it, a live spell check would be helpful too.
Thank you.

Keep InDesign in background while creating PDF (or any task), unless input needed for alert or error.
Mac OS, ID 18 (2023). While outputting a PDF or some other process that can take some time, I often switch to a different task -- but InDesign will make itself pop to the front multiple times partway through the process, usually without any input needed from me. Is necessary to switch back to the other program I am using again and again. The disruption wastes time and sometimes causes problems because I was in the middle of typing or moving the cursor when the window unexpectedly switches.

Mute ruler contrast to reduce UI clutter
Just a small idea, but would it be possible to reduce the contrast in the ruler markings slightly. There's a lot going on in the ID UI and reducing the contrast of the ruler markings to remain in the window's inactive state color - light gray - even when in active state greatly reduces the amount of noise onscreen. Would also make the dashed cursor position indicators easier to spot (currently they're impossible to see amidst the high contrast markings).

Revert to original, efficient New Document dialogue box.
An option to revert to the old, more compact and efficient "New Document" window.
There are 8,342 awesome ideas of additions and updates for InDesign on this site, yet someone took the time to make this new interface... If you have used InDesign for more than 1 day you don't need this. It is huge, and inefficient. There used to be an option to revert to this style but it is gone now.
Efficiency is KING in InDesign. If we wanted a clunky, chunky UI we could use a Microsoft product ;-)
Thanks!

Major problem with image links
When I click on an image, the link in the links-window does not show. Note: there's nothing embedded. I'm encountering this all the time and it's very very time-consuming. How can this major problem exist in a software where placing images is really what you do with it all day layouting?
I really wonder what we pay the monthly fees for when even the most basic stuff is far from working properly.
Why is Indesign CC detoriating compared to CS6, though we pay more money?
What are the Updates and the cloud really for?Why this is valuable to us…

When you issue a new version of ANY Adobe package keep the help text in synch
It is a poor indicator of an organisations ability to manager Quality Control in it's software when it allows the hep text to fall behind the release cycle. Using the most recent version of CC Indesign, the Help text suggests that I am able to add a new page by using the pages panel. It further goes in to say that if it is NOT visible it will be in the Window menu. When I check the menu there is no such facility.

Film and TV Scripting
Basically taking a lot of what was available on the scripting side from Adobe Story and integrating it into incopy similar to a new work window layout like we get in Premiere ( Assembly/Edit/Color etc). While I miss the production side of what was available in story, the basic scriptwriting side is the biggest loss. If not then having some form of automatic layout feature for film and tv scripts would be great.

Make annoying datamerge save warning userfriendly
The warning window "You must turn off the data merge preview before you close the document..." must be changed. Its good to have straight hint what's have to be done by user, but in modern software we
need a better approach.
Like button "do it for me now and we continue" and even checkbox "always do that and never ask again" (ofc with undo somewhere in preferences or datamerge interface, see screenshots)1 vote
