Ignore effects
Just like you can "Ignore text wrap" it would be very helpful to be able to "Ignore effects" on objects and text frames.
Often you have a lot of shadows and other effects that you don't want certain objects to be affected by.
In the example here I have put a dark outer glow on the text frame that I want to affect the background picture – but not affect the logo or the bar code box.
I know you can get around it with making sure that these objects are put on top of the text frame – or to put them in another layer. But quite often you have a lot of effects going on with different text frames and objects, and it gets very complicated and time consuming to make sure which objects are effected and which are not.
So it would be much easier if you could just chose an object or text frame and click an "Ignore effects" box for that object.

Changes to the review tools
First, I'm using ID 15.1.3 and I cannot upgrade at this time. Not sure how much of these ideas would be resolved by upgrading.
-Is it possible to make pins and pencil lines transparent? There are two ways I can think of: a percentage slider just like alpha control in color settings, or a three point switch: hide/semisolid/solid. Either way I would like to see this as a control for each comment so you can choose it individually. Right now the pin or pencil line blocks the art somewhat, which is where the transparency would be handy.
-Right now, you can move a pin and rewrite a comment, but other edits are not possible. Here is what I would suggest: select a menu item or button for 'edit' in the comment you want to change, pick the tool you want to use. The marking for the old comment is 'greyed out' while you make the new marking. Use a cancel button to go back to the old marking or confirm button to use the new marking, with the text of the comment fully retained.
-The option to use a 'crosshair' precision pin. Why is the current pin a pixel block anyway? Or is that just a redraw bug?
-I previously suggested (in the wrong place) that comment markings could be inserted into an exclusive layer. Now I think they could be better served if they are treated like guide rules. Or better yet, offer both options.First, I'm using ID 15.1.3 and I cannot upgrade at this time. Not sure how much of these ideas would be resolved by upgrading.

Provide a linking feature to duplicate text from one frame into others
It would be highly valuable to be able to define a parent text frame and then link that frame to other frames in a layout that duplicates the text in that frame.
This would be similar to the way that text links in alternate layouts work, but the styles to the linked (child?) frames are allowed to be independent of the parent.
Trying to use text variables for this kind of duplication runs into the multi-line issue. Copying linked frames from alternate layouts will result in the parent style of the linked text to overrun any changes made to the child.
An example use for this would be printed tab layouts, where the from one frame in the layout typically appears on the tab front, tab back, and back of the tab. Having these frames linked to automatically refresh the only text of the parent while maintaining the unique styles required by their placement would be an elegant solution.
Also, this would provide a unique opportunity to make more graphical use of text in reliably repeatable ways, as one frame could control text in many frames, styled, arranged and layered in more artist ways, but still editable with little effort.

Full support to Mongolian vertical LTR and reading its font open type feature to combine characters
Full support to Mongolian vertical LTR and reading its font open type feature to combine characters. Currently using Mongolian Baiti or Noto Sans Mongolian fonts the characters in the words do not connect to the correct initial, medial or final forms. Only isolated forms are displayed. We tried any current settings but the characters do not combine. Is there a function to do this? We have not found any plug-ins so far. Perhaps it could be that the open type tables are not read which may be one reason for this. See the attached IndDesign file

Syncing Workspaces and Preferences
This use to be here but doesnt seem to be around anymore. When I would access Indesign on another computer using the same account info, my workspace and preferences would always carry over. In the last year or so, this doesnt happen anymore and I cant figure out why. I cant find an answer online about it either so my guess is that it was removed. Can you bring this back? Thanks!

make Spell Check and Find/Change operate in page order rather than chronological order of text box creation
Find/Change and Spell Check seem to function in a random way (they actually search through text boxes in the order in which the boxes were created in the document). In a large document a user can become very confused about how much of the document is searched, especially if he makes changes mid-search.
It would be much more user friendly if the functions would operate in a page by page order.

Stop Giving a Fill Color When Using the Line Tool.
My OCD makes me switch the fill color (when using the line tool) to No Color. It would be great if there was no fill color when using the line tool.

Improve InDesign Accessibility Export to PDF
ARTICLES AND LAYERS
When the logical reading order is set in Articles, it would save time if Layers could replicate the same order, whether it’s automated or if there was a way to select “Use Articles reading order for Layers.”TABLE STRUCTURE
Set header scope for both columns and rows in cell properties in InDesign.Simplified complex table structure.
FOOTNOTES
Set the hyperlink and correct tags when footnotes are referenced in tables.More layout flexibility would also be helpful.
ALT TEXT
Adding Alt text to hyperlinksPATHS
Paths not included in Articles should remain artifacts. If that’s not an option, maybe a “Find and Artifact” option would be helpful.LANGUAGES
We have a legal statement translated in multiple languages. Currently, only 9 of the languages we need partially export to PDF. It would save a lot of time to have the language codes added in the Content properties automatically included in the Tags properties. We’re currently typing them in both places manually. Thanks for your time!

column rules length option to set frame-based
I want the option to make the length of the column rules always the same as when there is no text.
Currently, the length of a column rule changes with the amount of text, but I want an option that always makes this frame-based. This is the same as drawing with no text in the text frame.

Auto update the Table of Contents when saving or PDF'ing
Currently you have to REMEMBER to update your TOC before you export to a final PDF (or before a final print). It would be helpful if it updated automatically upon saving or maybe include it as an option in the Adobe PDF presets, checked by default together with "View PDF after exporting" etc.

Make it obvious in the Page palette when a page dimension has been changed with the Page tool
In a multi-page doc, it is not obvious when the dimensions of individual pages have been changed with the Page tool.
This can waste time or at worst be disastrous if a document at the wrong size is inadvertently sent to print.
I suggest some kind of colour tint or bright border to page thumbnails to clearly identify when a page dimension has changed from the document’s core dimensions.

BETTER TABLE CONTROL FEATURES!!!!
this!!! Complete overhaul to tables in InDesign !!!!! https://forums.adobe.com/message/10898726
IT IS SO ON THE MONEY and I am sure there are other great suggestions here, but seriously indesign tables are pathetic
right now I am especially vexed by this fact that Joe Jacob writes:
"Why is it that the total width/height of a table cannot be constrained to the size of the bounding box it's in? Why, when the table exceeds these limits, does a column or row just disappear? ""Why am I left just eyeballing it to make sure my table is neat and evenly spaced out? Why isn't there an option to disallow columns/rows to disappear when they exceed the limits - instead of just adjusting their own width/height to allow room? It's 2019. Tables have been like this for years. Adobe is a huge corporation with millions in revenue - why can't they just assign someone to write a new table system?"

Improve the tabs window interface
No matter what size your text is or how much Iyou zoom in, when you open the tabs window to set or modify tabs, the window is WAY too small, and the little arrows to adjust the tabs WAY too fussy. It's almost impossible to grab the existing tab to move it over or even select it, and you end up creating 4 or 5 new tabs because you're clicking on the ruler trying to select an existing tab. I wait for this to improve with every update. Going in to my 25th year as a graphic designer, and I just don't think it should be this hard to create tabs.

Only show Open Type »O« if there really are Open Type features
It makes no sense to show the »O« if there are no Open Type features. But it slows down the workflow: every time you move the mouse to the O to see if there are maybe some alternatives – and there are not – you loose time. Not very much time, but it adds up.

Please allow the ID/IC workflow to function with the Creative Cloud Files area
Right now, if you store your InDesign and InCopy files in CC Files and share (collaborate) that folder with your team, all the files are synced EXCEPT the lock files for InDesign and InCopy. This prevents users working on the same project from knowing if someone else has opened an InDesign file or has checked out a story (ICML) file. SO people try to use Dropbox, Google Drive, or Box, all of which have figured out how to sync the lock files for checked-out stories at least. No one as far as I know has been able to sync the .idlk files generated when an ID user has opened the ID file.
ALL OF THIS should be supported by Adobe. They are all Adobe apps. Companies who try to use CC Files to collaborate w/InDesign files and/or InCopy files run into major problems because they assume that's the point of CC files. to collaborate on live files created by Adobe apps, especially since other cloud solutions allow this.
PLEASE fix this, thanks!

Same color management in all adobe product
This will be a great feature for simplicity and collaborative work.
Actually, each program have a different system for choose color, and I'm sure you can improve that with give the same logical and features in all program.
Import photoshop palet in Indesign or Illustrator and vice versa...
Add the Color them Tool in photoshop and Illustrator...and maybe why not in After Effect and Premiere...
Sure you can do something great and identical in all your great products, even if you have not need CMJN/Pantone etc.. colors in video projects.35 votes -
Recent Fonts List Modification to maintain the last selected position
Currently, if you have Number of Recent Fonts to Display set to anything but zero (0), recent fonts appear at the font drop down list, but the drop down starts at the top of the fonts list no matter what your current font is.
If I am just wanting the next or previous font in the list from the font I am currently using, I now have to scroll all the way down to that font. When the Number of Recent Fonts to Display is set to zero (0), when the drop down is selected, it is positioned at the font you are currently using instead of the top of the list. This is preferable.
Can you combine these actions. When there is a recent fonts list, the drop down should be at the current font being used in the text that is selected.
This is something CorelDraw does and has done for years. Here's to hoping this would be an easy programming issue. Otherwise, I will not use that feature due to the amount of scrolling that needs to be done to get to the current font, or any other font I want to get that is not right at the top.

Abbreviations & Acronyms PDF accessibility
There is currently no way tag either abbreviations or acronyms in InDesign.
Having spent an entire day entering expansion text for the phrase "Title IX" in Acrobat because I couldn't properly prep the document in InDesign, I'm now dreading and future revisions.
Please beef up the accessibility options in InDesign, including the ability to tag both abbreviations and acronyms.
