  1. Image frames grow in height or width

Similar to the options that we have for text boxes, Autosize to height, width, both etc, could we do the same for images and then use the fit to frame options to control how the text boxes grow.

i.e you import and landscape image into a image holder, it is set to fit to height, but then the width grows or shrinks accordingly to fit the image. this can then effect text wrap.

  2. Automatically convert table cells to fillable forms for PDF

Currently, as far as I know, adding fillable forms to a table requires drawing a text frame above each form. This is time consuming. It should be possible to create text fields from existing cells.

  3. Allow linked excel table to thread inside text thread

Its possible to insert linked excel table in text. But in this case table doesnt thread to the next page when it is long. From the othe side it`s possible to insert linked excel table as new story (as separate frame). In this case table threading is OK.But in this case you have to look for continuity of your document because there is no possibility to glue frames of text and tables to each other to provide continuity.

  4. Improved Find/Change with Conditional Text

The reason is that the Find/Change function has a serious limitation in that it will only find text with certain conditions applied if you choose to search for ALL of the conditions applied to the text in question. That’s fine in the rare cases where I know all the conditions applied to the text that I need to find.

I want the a radio button behavior, where InDesign will find anything with a certain condition applied to it, even if there are other conditions applied as well.

  5. Alt-text inside Links Panel

Can we have a column added to the Links Panel that lists the alt-text of the image so I can open/edit it from the links panel rather than finding it inside my document?

  6. Adjust minimum height and width when scaling text frames with autosize

When scaling a text frame that is set to autosize with a minimum height and width, everything gets scaled – except for the minimum height and width, leading to ridiculously looking assets when scaled to different sizes for one-time-exceptions.

Please make it so the minimum width and height is scaled just as the margins and everything else - it would make working with assets with automadet assets with irregular sizes so much easier. Thanks!

  7. non-contigious text selections

I'm absolutely amazed that a product (inDesign) with the power to do everything from making a cup of coffee to managing the invasion of a small African republic does not provide a user with the ability to select non-contigious text. Given the value of this as a feature, I can only assume that it has been requested many times over but that Adobe has deemed it not important enough to warrant inclusion. Surely it is a rather simple coding exercise to include this.

I write books using inDesign and I waste many hours selecting different text items and making…

  8. Allow Optical Margin Alignment to apply only to punctuation.

Optical Margin Alignment does a great job allowing quotation marks and hyphens to hang into the column gutters, but it also make characters like A, W, and T do the same, which is often too high a price to pay. Fix this by allowing an option it to only apply it to punctuation.

  9. Italics shown in text variables

When you use text variables for running heads, if the chapter title has one of its words in italics, for example, the text variable does not recognise the italics. You can therefore not use a text variable in this instance without lots of cheating to get round it.

  11. Enable non-contiguous text selection (like in MS Word)

I work daily on customized graphic projects — brochures, flyers, posters, catalogs — where manual precision is essential. In these kinds of jobs, using styles and automation is often unnecessary or even counterproductive.

It’s quite limiting that InDesign does not allow non-contiguous text selection within the same text frame, a feature that has been available in software like Microsoft Word for years (Cmd+click on Mac / Ctrl+click on Windows).

Being able to select multiple non-adjacent portions of text and apply changes to them simultaneously (bold, size, color, etc.) would be a major improvement for those of us who work…

  13. More powerful use of Conditional Text

Conditional text is a great tool, but limited. It could be used to apply formatting to text that would survive the "clear overrides" of para or char styles.

I can see that conditional formatting that changed the text itself could be difficult to implement (such as font size, applying italics, small caps, no break, no hyphenation...) but if it could do that, it could prove very handy to giving a persistent formatting "style" that would not be affected by clearing overrides.

Also: Sometimes highlighting or underlining is not appropriate. I'd like a flag in the margin that marks the beginning…

  14. Kerning Editor (with individual margin alignment options)

A Kerning Editor would fit nicely into the kerning feature, which allows to choose between optical, metrical kerning. The user would define his own kerning names.
The Kerning Editor has a GUI which allows the user to define his own kerning pairs which override the metrical ones defined in the font's kerning tables. There I can load the metrical kerning or the optical kerning as a start for my individual kerning.
Furthermore the new Kerning Editor has two more tokens/glyphs to kern with: the left and the right margin of a text frame. So the user can define his…

  15. Better text variables

Text variables are so... basic at the moment.

Can it get some love like GREPs search has? Unbelievable that you can't pull the first page or section titles... but how about some simple math operations in there too and combine them with GREP operations? Would be hugely useful to have some dynamic tools like this added to make on page information update in response to layout changes.

There are lots of Conditional Text requests, but simply the ability to assign keyboard shortcuts to text conditions would be a huge time saver!

  17. Request for Text Alignment Option for Interactive Forms Directly in InDesign

    Dear Adobe InDesign Team,

I would like to request the addition of a feature that allows text alignment for interactive forms to be managed directly within InDesign, rather than having to perform this task in Adobe Acrobat.

Currently, our workflow involves creating datasheets with centered ordering codes, which are frequently updated. Each update requires redoing the text alignment in Acrobat, adding unnecessary steps to our process. This is both time-consuming and frustrating, especially for what should be a simple text alignment adjustment.

Having this feature integrated into InDesign would greatly improve efficiency and streamline the creation of…

  18. Obsessive Compulsive Feature - Text averaging for scaled text boxes

When scaling a text box and contents the final type size ends up with sizes with super detailed decimal places; e.g 12.345pt

    arrrrgh!!

Don't you realise that many designers are OCD inclined? Whole size text numbers help us feel good. Please don't ask why.

Suggest a scaling preference that allows users to round-off scaled text to nearest desired text increment, e.g nearest whole number or No of decimal places.

    :-)

  19. Interactive/Button and Forms/PDF Options - Add Text Field option for flush left, centered or flush right

Text Fields are all flush left. Add an option to make them flush left, centered or flush right. I create interactive PDFs. Every time I export to a PDF, I open the PDF in Adobe Acrobat Pro and have to manually change Prepare Form/Text Field Properties/Options/Alignment to the desired alignment to "centered" or "flush right" since the default is "flush left." This option would be a great time saver and save on my frustration.
