Shared document on server crashing upon opening
>>>I am working with colleagues on a file stored on a shared server. When they try to work on a document that I have worked on (documents that I have changed, not just created), InDesign crashes upon trying to open the file. If they then try to restart InDesign it continues to crash upon starting until they restart their computer. We have both tried updating InDesign and it is still occurring. Thanks!

We’ve concluded our investigation and came up with the finding : Either the issue is fixed in the latest release of InDesign or the issue was intermittent in nature at the time of its reporting and is not reproducible now.
We recommend you to upgrade to the latest version of InDesign 2020.0.1 (if you’re not already on it). It contains a lot of stability fixes.

>>>Sometimes when I open a document that I've worked on, some frames (text or/and pictures) have moved 5 mm horizontally. Its random, not all pages but some. This is a great concern since we are doing 164 pages magazines for a client and we have to manually look through every page every time we open the magazine.

quote mark position in RTL paragraph when Arabic and English text mixed and line break
>>InDesign 20.2 (ME)
>>In a paragraph where there is text contained within opening and closing quote marks and that text has a mixture of Arabic and English words, if that text happens to be at the end of a line and automatically flows to the next line then the positions of the quote marks reverses and are incorrect. If I force a line beak then it fixes itself, but it leaves me with text in one line that is shorter than it should be.

InDesign 14.0.1 is crashing hourly
>>>For three days my InDesign 14.0.1 has been crashing almost exactly hourly. It just freezes and I get the spinning beachball. Only recourse is to re-start my Mac. I've uninstalled and reinstalled multiple times. Prior to this, I had downloaded Lightroom... I thought this might have been the initial cause. I uninstalled Lightroom and all my Adobe products. Any ideas?

ID incorrectly enables Overprint when converting a text to paths
>>This bug has been reproduced in Indesign 15.0 and 18.5. MacOS Sonoma.
>>When you convert a BLACK text to outline, Overprint Fill is automatically enabled in the Attributes panel. The ‘Overprint’ selection remains applied even if you change the colour of this object.
>>I've just had a print advert blown out of the water by my client because half of his logo had disappeared. It was blue and was overprinted even though I hadn't set anything like that.
>>It came about in the way described above: a text was converted into paths, the resulting logo was

URGENT: Add an "Empty Output" Option for Text Variables
>>Currently, InDesign text variables (e.g., Running Headers) always display the last non-empty value when the source is empty. While this behavior can be useful in some workflows, it causes major problems in others. In publishing and educational workflows, >having an “empty” variable output display the previous value is unacceptable.>
>>We urgently need a way to explicitly tell InDesign: >“If the source is empty, display nothing (truly empty).”>
>>Proposed Solutions:
…
> - Introduce a new special character (e.g., “Null Variable Marker”) that, when placed in the source text, forces the variable to render as empty.

datamerge crashes after updating placeholder
>>>The Crash happened after selecting the word between the data merge tags << WORD >> and then clicking on the placeholder name in the data merge panel. I had to do that to update a datamerge placeholder that lost its link to its source after converting the document back from cc18 to cc17.

Text with missing fonts are invisible in InDesign 16.1 macOS Catalina
>>Missing fonts in a document were usually showed with a replaced standard font and a light red highlight, so it pops you in the eye directly.

> In the new InDesign 16.1 on macOS Catalina 10.15.7 this feature is suddendly missing for me. The text with the missing font is completely invisible. Just an empty textbox. Just when you klick in it or open the preflight window, there you can see the errors.>Did I miss some new settings? Sometimes you just want to quickly edit the text and generate the final pdf later. InDesign 2025 Crashing Constantly
>>>Indesign 2025 has been crashing consistently since I updated it. The main trigger seems to be when you Option-drag any element. Text, image, shape. It immediately crashes. Any designer knows option-drag is a standard move for design work. This is very problematic. I have restarted, reinstalled, updated OS but still the same thing happens. Sometimes it now crashes when you PDF anything. Update has some serious glitches. Needs fixing asap.

ID 17 English LTR document with any RTL text exports as RTL epub
>>I edited this to remove the urgent notice. The publisher does not want to publish this book as an epub.
>>The basic problem remains, however.
>>When exporting an epub 3.0 from an academic book written in English with some RTL text sections, typically tables with Hebrew and English text, the epub exports in reverse order. That is, the title page is at the end of the epub, and the last page of the text is the first in the epub. So far it seems that the presence of any RTL elements, even a single character, causes the

InDesign Suffers Major Performance Issues When InCopy Files Are Linked To .indd File
>>I use InDesign a lot for production art. Mostly I layout text and images for product manuals that range between 110 - 250 pages. It runs like a champ on both my Dell XPS 8930 and iMac 2019. Both machines are robust with 32 Gb of ram. However, once I convert text and graphics to InCopy files, I see a huge drop in machine performance. Doing the slightest things like updating the ICMA / ICML file will hang or crash InDesign. Even saving the file can take 2 minutes. I've had 3 instances where the InDesign file got

conditional text leaves a bullet with blank line when using a bullet list
>>Indesign v16
>>We use conditional text and have noticed that using bullets with this would leave a lone bullet when swtiching the conditional text off. There's a work around to and a line break and switch the bullets off which allows the condition to work as expected.
>>Would expect bullets to work with conditional text without the need for an extra line, this is flagging as overset text in some cases as well.
