  1. 17.4 hangs opening files

Updated to 17.4 to benefit from purported improvement on ID hang on files with missing fonts. Now opening any file causes a hang.

    ID 17.4
    OS 12.5.1

Console posts "nwsockethandlesocketevent <private> Socket SO_ERROR [61: Connection refused]" message for ID (where it joins the steady stream of error messages for Illustrator)

  3. some lines in textbook can no longer be read, whole line blacked out in Indesign 15.1.2

    After updating to InDesign 15.1.2
some lines in some text boxes are blacked out, text cannot be read anymore
I used Arial. A few other fonts show the text, but do not remove black line of unused text.
I can make text white, it will then show up on black background.
    Thanks for your support.

  4. Changing language setting of paragraph text causes turnovers to change

    Indesign Version 16.1 Windows 10 Home 64-bit

Given some random body text, the default language setting was English: USA, if I want to change this to any other language like English: UK (for spell checking reasons) it causes the turnovers of certain paragraphs to change.

Different fonts do the same thing, I primarily tested on a non-type 1 version of Melior and Helvetica but also tried some Adobe Fonts. However, different language settings cause different bits of text to change their turnover, ergo English: USA has different turnovers to English: USA Legal.

Changing this setting in the Paragraph…

  5. Adding anchored frame to the text corrupts the text

    Hello there,
We have noticed this problem while dealing with Arabic/Persian/Urdu text (regardless of the fonts used). English text works just fine.
When anchored framed is inserted, the vowels in the Arabic/Persian/Urdu text and sometimes evens the characters in the text shift. The foreign text is typically perfectly fine prior to inserting the anchored object however changes. See before and after examples:

  8. Random pdfs displaying weird text placement

Since Adobe updated my InDesign to 2021, I have been having issues with fonts showing correctly in placed pdfs. Sometimes text will be completely removed. Other times text is displayed enlarged, upside down and reversed. It is not all pdfs. Sometimes it is just one page in a pdf that displays badly. Please fix this bug. It is very annoying when I'm trying to paginate and print files for clients.

  9. Export stops at 0%

Exporting common documents often results in a "crash" at 0%. No error comes up, it just stays at 0% indefinitely.

If I try stop the export I can't, if I try close InDesign I can't. I have to force quit the program and open it numerous times following in order to get all of my fonts back and registered... even if it's in a package.

    Extremely time consuming and painful.

    Thanks

  10. Ligatures

I loaded the Adobe InDesign CC Ap from Creative cloud, version 14.0.2 x64. The file I had used before now has missing text! Specifically the "fl" in the Active Ingredients list "Isoxaflutole" which now appears as Isoxa utole" throughout the whole book with empty space for the "fl". Even the word "flowables" appears as " owables".

The file seems to have "Ligatures" checked in the character palette which I did not check. I'm using Helvetica fonts.
Any suggestion as to how to get my text back? See attached files.

  12. line spacing / leading glitches

I often change line spacing of a single line by selecting the first character of a line and changing the line spacing. Normally, this will adjust line spacing for the one line, but I'm encountering a baffling glitch that changes the line spacing for the line under the affected bit of text where I changed the line spacing. Note that I'm changing the leading of the first character of a new paragraph line. Please see my screen record to see this in action. I have tried this with multiple fonts. I am using the most up to date version.

  13. Germandbls in all caps with Adobe Composer

This is to report that the "World-Ready Composers" and the regular "Composers" do not behave in sync concerning the Germandbls (upper case German sharp s) in all caps. More precise: The "World-Ready Composers" do it right, while the regular "Composers" do it wrong:
Using the latter and applying all caps, the germandbls is generally substituted by SS, which shouldn't be. Modern fonts leave the decision to the typographer whether a Germandbls or SS is applied. In any case the first choice should be the Germandbls.

  14. equation

    Hi,

Questions from VilniusTECH University about equations printing problems. We have many equations in books and journals and when exporting to PDF, they sometimes lose characters. The most interesting thing is that equations prints once with errors but the next time exporting without errors, although no corrections were made. Equations are formated with Mathtype in a MS Word file and imported to InDesign 19.0.1 become non-editable EPS files. Changing equations fonts, PDF export profiles or Indesign versions does not help. MathMagic is not suitable for us because cannot automatically format questions with our profiles in MS Word file. Please…

  15. idlm

I worked on a catalogue for a festival and finished my project, then exported a package as requested by the printer.
Of course, the package included fonts, images, and also an IDML file.

The problem is that the export to IDML introduced some errors that ended up in the printed version. My original InDesign file looked perfectly fine, but in the IDML, some objects appeared that were not in the InDesign file at all.

This has created a serious issue for me, as it now seems like the mistake is mine. However, I never opened the IDML to double-check…

  16. Everything on artboard goes to bitmap intermittently

Running iD (15.1.3) on Windows 7 - Don't laugh this isn't my machine but the one I have to work on. grrrr!
Every now and again the entire artboard contents and surrounds (not the UI), changes to low resolution resulting in something resembling a scene from the game Minecraft, fonts images imported vector graphics etc. This is only on inDesign, no other program, so it's not a system or graphics card error. The attached image shows up as all bitmapped but tin reality it's just the artboard that goes pear shaped. Is there a fix for this or is…

  17. Interactive PDF doesn't snap to fit when viewing in landscape mode on smartphones

I created a 14-page landscape document in InDesign (12.2.1) that will ideally be viewed on desktops and smartphones and I needed to add hyperlinks.

Adding hyperlinks in Acrobat causes glitches in the artwork (fonts distorted/ images shifted). Adding the links in InDesign exports great, but I’m creating this file to be viewed by anyone that wants to - which will likely be on a smartphone.

I view it on my iPhone and when I hold my phone vertically, I can see the full (landscape) page (albeit small). But when I rotate the phone to landscape (to make it…

  18. [ID-4206993] InDesign crashes when exporting to PDF, but not to JPEG

I'm using InDesign 13.1 for a simple 12 page booklet (see attached)

First issue: ID was doing background work on a file for about 4 days and then ID crashed. Now whenever I open the program it asks me if I want to do "Automatic Recovery" for the file. If I click YES or CANCEL the program crashes. If I click NO the program stays open and I can continue to work. But if I go to export the 12 page booklet to PDF it crashes.

I have: (1) uninstalled and reinstalled ID; (2) tried to export the file to…

  19. Glyph substitution not working with certain Oriya and Bengali glyphs

The following words in cannot be reproduced in InDesign. It seems the glyph substitution is not working in about 1% of cases.

    র‍্যানিবিজুমাব — Bengali
    ମହତ୍ଵପୂର୍ଣ୍ଣ — Oriya
    ସ୍ଵେଚ୍ଛାକୃତ — Oriya
    କିମ୍ଵା — Oriya

It looks fine above, in any text editor, or in any Microsoft app, but does NOT look right in any Adobe app I tested, such as InDesign, Illustrator, Photoshop CC 2019 and 2020 of each.
I am applying the World-Ready Composers.
I have tried copy+pasting the text from Word and also tried the Place command in InDesign.
I've tested in both the English North America and…

  20. Character Style is cleared from copied Hyperlink

    June 26, 2020
    Windows 10 Home 1909
    InDesign 15.1 x64

When copying text, the Character Style of Hyperlink text is not copied.

Attached is a video showing the problem:
ITC Officina OTF [book, bold] are used.
A Paragraph Style is applied to all text.
A Character Style is applied to the "portfolio" and "imdb.com"
"imdb.com" is an active Hyperlink, as per the Hyperlinks panel
Once copied, the Character Style is removed from "imdb.com".

Bug happens if the Text Frame is copied, and/or if text is copied and pasted into new text box.
Bug happens in multiple INDD files.
