  1. workspace issues with 2023

Every time I open (or create) a new document in Indesign 18.0 x64, I get automatically taken to the touch worksapce (which is never what I want). Then, when I click on the correct workspace, it also opens this weird "structure" thing. Even if I close it and resave the workspace, it'll open it again the next time I open a document. This is extremely frustrating.

  3. Issues with epub quality on the new 2023 update

I'm a book publisher. I downloaded the latest InDesign update last week. I created the files and saved them like in the previous software. However, the vendors are all rejecting the epub files stating they're not validating in their epub software. I had to go redownload the prior version of InDesign, and it works like a charm. The glitch seems to be in the new version of the InDesign software.

  5. delete text crash

Opened and made a copy (Save As) of an existing doc in ID 17.4, moved to ID 18 when it became available. Replaced about 2/3 of the existing material with new text or images. Found one specific text box that crashed when I tried to delete it. Tried deleting the text in the box, another crash. Tried deleting text in chunks, and got down to just one letter that was causing the crash.

Fix not required. This is a result of regularly importing Word docs from other people. (The proof is the document recovery notice: the recovery called for links…

  6. optical margin alignment

Optical Margin Alignment does not work in a tabbed hanging indent, but it should. In the examples provided I want the copy quotes to be offset by the optical margin alignment, but they are counted as a character and disrupt the look of the hanging indent (example 01). If I move the hanging indent to the right side of the quotes it fixes the problem for the current paragraph, but the next paragraph aligns with the tab and quote, not with the above hanging paragraph (example 02).

  7. DAY 62 - Slow Publish Online document loading - Case ADB-25741223-T9S3

I'm getting very tired with this - Publish Online still slow loading, feel it's like knocking your head against. a brick wall!!!!
Since I first reported this major slow-down 62 days ago, it's speeded up a little, but now today, back to the slow stuff. Please, please, please Adobe - listen to what I'm saying, you have a problem with your Publish Online server setup. It used to be incredibly fast loading, now it's sloooooooow!

I keep getting told it will be resolved in the latest Indesign update - of course it isn't, it's the servers where the documents are…

  8. InDesign '23 interface is not dual-monitor friendly! I am running macOS Monterey 12.4 on a MacBook M1 Pro.

Please update Adobe InDesign to be a more self-contained, movable workspace instead of anchoring the app to a single monitor (namely, my small laptop monitor). I am able to move tool windows and a file window over to my larger screen, but everything opens back on my laptop screen and I have to adjust all over again, unlike with Illustrator or Photoshop. It also maintains a dark gray 'background' over my laptop screen so it's VERY difficult to multitask. I noticed that this became an issue with a recent update PRIOR to the release of InDesign 2023. I am running…

  9. Error encountered while reading TIFF image

    Adobe Indesign 2023 (v18).
When render TIFF images from Blender using the Deflate (ZIP) option.
All other compression options gives images with black background and no transparency.
Up to v17 Indesign 2022 these images imported just fine.
When doing a resave in Photoshop with no changes, the images imports fine.

  11. InDesign 2023 (18.0)

When attempting to switch the font family, the font menu jumps all the way to the top of the list instead of moving up to the previous font family in the list.

Hack solution: If you choose a different weight and then attempt to change the font family, the font menu works correctly and doesn't jump to the top.

This makes 2023 unusable, downgrading until fixed.

  12. Cannot select or move anything around

Can only 'select all' with keyboard shortcut, mouse / trackpad won't work, and then can't move or delete or do anything with selected items since last update. I'm on Mac OS Monterey 12.6

  14. Footnote references not fully displaying all digits

    InDesign 18.0

After updating the file type for the new InDesign 2023, I noticed that my footnote reference markers were not displaying correctly in the footnotes themselves: the second digit is always missing. So for example, if the footnote number is 35, only the 3 is displayed. If the number is 128, only the 1 and 8 are displayed (with a blank in the middle). This is taking place even after converting to .idml.

My colleague with 17.4 opened the same .idml and it is displaying correctly. The first screenshot is from him showing what it is supposed to look…

  15. export with spread option ignores page range

Export with spread option ignores page range

I've got an InDesign document with a 6 page spread.
When I export to pdf and select the spread option with a page-range of page 3-6, page 1 and 2 are also included.

This happens in InDesign 17.4 en 18. Not sure about older versions.

  17. Why does ID now need new filetype with every yearly release?

I don't remember ID needing a new filetype with every release in the past. A (perhaps cynical) part of me says new filetypes are designed to incentivize users to upgrade. This drive for new filetypes every year seems especially capricious when fundamental new ID features are few and far between over the past 5+ years. (Ex: one of the top billed features last year was renaming Master pages to Parent pages...)

New filetypes with every release is a source of friction to my team, especially when several users work on a project and one or more suddenly find they can…

  18. Placed illustrator files keep showing as modified

When I place illustrator files in Indesign they show as modified even when closed from illustrator. I update and within a minute it shows as modified again. Very annoying. This is a new behavior on M1 mac studios, Monterey, working from a Mac file server which worked as expected previously with Intel imacs. Please fix ASAP. Thanks

  19. Endnotes in ePub use identical id's where an id should be Unique

When InDesign 18.0 and earlier versions make a reflowable ePub, the endnotes cause the file to be rejected when checked by https://www.ebookit.com/tools/bp/Bo/eBookIt/epub-validator. The reason: each endnote reference is embedded in a span with an id twice, and the name or identifier of that id is the same. In HTML (which is the construct of an ePub) each id should be unique. You cannot have a HTML file with two elements with the same id-name. The next line can be found at the endnote reference, but a similar thing coccurs on the backlink, back from the endnote text to the…

  20. .idlk files not recognized/ignored when .indd files are in a Dropbox directory

    InDesign 2023 v18.00
.idlk files are not recognized when working from a shared Dropbox folder. This issue appears to be very extensive and well documented. While I understand the many different use cases (synced/not synced, not connected to the internet, etc..) It would just make sense for InDesign to check for .idlk files within Dropbox directories and let Dropbox/Users figure out the potenetial for syncing errors and find a solution when those issues arise.

This causes very frustrating issues for collaborative teams.
