InDesign CS4 (v6) and Later
When changing the “Number of Characters per Line” or “Number of Lines” for multiple selected frame grids, one of the frame grids always fails to update. This bug, first observed in CS4 (v6), remains unresolved.

When viewing an exported PDF images do not appear correctly
I'm using InDesign 2026 version 21.0. These bugs are new after the latest update. We create primary 36+ page booklets with lots of text and linked files: Illustrator files (linked as .AI), JPG/PNG images, and PDFs. When creating a PDF using Adobe PDF preset for smallest file size some pages do not appear correctly. Alert: "Incompatible file detected. Please choose a valid file to proceed" for scenarios when User Settings can not be imported
When I try to export user settings from GA, Beta or Pre-release and import into any of the others I get the error
'Incompatible file detected. Please choose a valid file to proceed.’
The current pre-release cannot even import a settings file from 6 months ago

Alert is shown on opening documents in InDesign(v19.4.0.63) - "This file is already open by another user or another application."
After updating InDesign to V19.4, I'm now locked out of many of my previous design files. I'm receiving the error, "This file is already open by another user or another application. This file may be stored on a network server and cannot be opened until the other user closes it."
I reinstalled V19.3 and can now access these old files but I would prefer to use the most up to date version if possible. happy to provide a sample if needed.
44 votesThe fix of the issue is now available in the latest InDesign 2024(v19.5.0.084). We recommend you upgrade to the latest version for the fix.
If you are unable to see the update, go to the Creative Cloud application and click on the context menu on the top right and click on Check for App Updates.

InDesign CC 2026 - Arrange windows does not use full screen area
When using InDesign without the application frame ("Anwendungsrahmen" in the german version we use) active, opening multiple documents and trying to arrange them with any of the options in Windows > Arrange ("Fenster" > "Anordnen") the windows are arranged according to the deactivated/invisible application frame and not the full screen as in previous versions. Also, when the application frame is scaled to the full screen and then deactivated, the arranged windows keep a thin row on the bottom of the screen free (and overlap in the vertical center by this amount). PDF files being sent to the wrong print tray despite the correct print information being selected.
Adobe products are sending PDF files to the wrong tray in the printer despite the settings being correct this is mostly happening in both InDesign 2024 and 2026, but it is also happening with Adobe Reader 2020 as well.

Pasteboard issues
Pasting things sometimes changes the size of the pasteboard drastically. Pasteboard margins changes to 10 mm and 10 mm when I paste into the document and it only happens on one page, even if I have multiple pages in the document. This is happening since I updated Indesign from 2025 to 2026 on Windows 11. This causes me to fix the pasteboard size many times throughout the day over and over again.

Unable to get rid of history and style pack icons on my workspace
The History and Style pack icons keep appearing on my InDesign workspace panels. I have tried creating several new workspaces, each time without these icons. However, they reappear each time I open a new document.

Outlining Texts when grouped
For exporting print PDFs i often have to convert all texts into paths. That does not work if a Text is grouped with any objekt.
I hope for an option to convert all texts into paths, even if they are grouped with other objects.1 vote -
Holding Alt to zoom causes menu issues
I'm surprised this hasn't been fixed since it's been an issue for an incredibly long time on Windows machines. Please add an option to zoom when scrolling without the need to hold the alt key. It causes navigation issues with the InDesign menu making navigation extremely clunky.

QR-code color does not get updated with changed color swatch
If I change a colour in the Swatches Panel that has been used in a QR-Code, the QR code does not automatically update. I have to open the “Edit QR-Code” options dialogue to validate the colour (select it again). As you can see in the screenshot, the changed colour is selected but not reflected in the QR-Code that it has been applied to.
The expected result would be that that the QR-code color updates as soon as the color swatch has been changed.

I get an error message that InDesign cannot open a file because it was created in a newer version and I am told I need to update. My updates are automatic and InDesign is actually up to date. The problem occurs when I double click a file in a folder, expecting InDesign to automatically open, with the file visible. InDesign does, in fact, open automatically - but it opens an older version, which should not be there! I have tried changing the app in which *.indd files should open, but it makes no difference.

Cannot see text
When using the Text tool, text is only visible when typing and disappears afterwards. I only know text is present through highlighting the text, however still the text is not visible (and I can only highlight text when it is off of the page). I checked layers and updated the application. All fonts are updated. I tried to change the font size, colour and checked through the effects.
Error states: Overset text (1), although I already tried to adjust the size of the box and text as well as create a new text box.
Edit: I can't see imported material…

Indesign-Dateien die älter als 2 Jahre sind lassen sich nicht direkt von einem externen Firmen-Server öffnen. Sie müssen immer erst vom Firmen-Server auf die lokale Festplatte kopiert werden, von dort geöffnet und dann auf dem Firmen-Server überspeichert werden. Ein nerviger Workaround.

Printing doubled sided without computer settings being changed
Mac computer using InDesign 2024 version 19.5.5 has select documents print double sided when single sided is preferred. Computer settings for single sided printing was check and was set for single sided. Printer was serviced to make sure it was not a driver issue and driver was up to date and printing correctly on other jobs.

placing illustrator images
One of my students was having an issue when placing a native AI file inside InDesign 21.0 that the graphics became distorted. His image was not very complex. He had a some columns and rows of circles that display and print in a totally different way then they are in the Illustrator file, and some white shapes he had on top of a solid color area disappeared. imported mp4 showing as lines and not allowing poster frame
When importing an MP4 the frame no longer shows the first frame image, it shows diagonal blue lines. A poster frame can also no longer be set.
I've tried opening an old Indesign file that had an MP4 with a poster frame set and reimport the exact same MP4 next to it and it seems that the original MP4 works as expected, however the newly imported version of the same file doesn't show an image of the video and a poster frame cannot be set.
Please find an example screenshot of this uploaded, showing the original MP4 working as expected…

Data Merge panel doesn't import UTF-8 data when selecting "UTF-8" encoding option
I’m using Adobe InDesign v. 20.5.0.48 on the macOS v. 15.6.1. I have a “merge.csv” data file encoded in UTF-8 that imports into the Data Merge panel when I select “ASCII” as the encoding but, unsurprisingly, doesn’t display some special characters correctly. When I select “UTF-8” as the encoding option, which should remedy this problem, the file fails to import!
