  3. InDesign 2020 Middle Eastern, Arabic language causes reversed numbers order

When working with Arabic and wanting to have Roman Digits, one needs to choose the "Arabic" digits option.
More option that should be set for Arabic are:
Character direction should be set to "default"
Paragraph direction should be set to "Right to Left"
Paragraph composer should be set to "Adobe World-Ready Paragraph Composer"
Language should be set to "Arabic"
    Ligatures should be "On"

    BUT
If I type a date that suppose to be presented like this:
    9/1/2020
as soon as selecting "Arabic" for language the order is reversed to this:
    2020/1/9

As digits has a built in Left to Right…

  4. Index entries lost when importing a .docx file with text frames into InDesign

    InDesign version: CC 2018
    MS Word version: 2013

When I import a .docx file that uses text boxes/text frames/shapes into InDesign, most of the index entries within the .docx file is lost. When I import the same .docx file after removing all the shapes, all index entries remain intact.
I've attached reference .docx and .indd files so that you can see what I mean. The .docx file (loremipsumindex.docx) has five index entries, that are lost when imported to InDesign (loremipsumindex.indd). On removing the text box from the .docx file (loremipsumindexwotxtbox.docx), the

  5. Footnote marker is replaced with an unknown character if preceded by a character with a specific Unicode pattern

Footnote marker is replaced with an unknown character if preceded by a character with a specific Unicode pattern. Unicode pattern is U+##1a. Here are some of those characters:

    U+011a
    U+021a
    U+031a
    U+041a
    U+051a
    U+061a
    U+071a
    U+081a

You could try the attached test file for placement in to an InDesign document. Unicode of the character following the footnote marker is : U+011a

This happen when file format of the file is either RTF or DOC. Its not a issue with DOCX.

  6. Stroke Drawing Order not working

    InDesign 2019 on MacOS 10.13.6

    Steps to reproduce
Define table stroke using the proxy in the Control panel (see screenshot) and try to change the Stroke Drawing Order.

    Expected result
Stroke Drawing Order "Row Strokes In Front" should be as selected in "Table Options"

    Actual result
Row Strokes are not in front. All strokes which are altered using the control panel options remain unchanged.
If a new table is setup using only the menu options (Cell Options > Strokes And Fills) everything works fine.

In the Table Setup dialog, do the following:

In the Row Strokes section (2nd tab), choose Alternating Pattern : Every Other Row and then make the First 1 Rows and Next 1 Rows the exact same settings.

In the Column Strokes section (3rd tab), choose Alternating Pattern: Every Other Column and then make the First 1 Columns and Next 1 Columns the exact same settings.

In the Table Setup section (1st tab), you can set the Table Border as 0mm and Stroke Drawing Order as ‘Row Strokes in Front’.

Most probably this should help you get the results you are after. Try this out and let us know if it helps.

  7. Text Wrap function not available!

Can anyone help?! The Text Wrap function in InDesign is just not available. All I can see is a blank panel. Done the usual restarts etc. but still no joy and getting incredibly frustrating now.

  8. Ignore All not working in spell check

When using the spell check, the "Ignore All" feature no longer appears to work. When spell checking a long document this is a pain and it's really easy to miss something that is actually wrong.

This seems to be a fairly recent thing as it did used to work. Using the latest version of InDesign.

  9. InDesign should apply variating substitutions from rclt

Variable fonts may contain location-dependent substitutions, but the rvrn feature runs too early for many real-world substitutions. The solution in font-making land has been to use the rclt or rlig features instead, but at least the former is not supported by InDesign. This is a major headache for e.g. Arabic.

  10. Cross references rendered to big/wrong line break

Text with cross references isn't rendered correctly. The line break is triggered far to early (see IDML and PNG) image.

The line break works with the Adobe World-Ready Composers but not with the Classic Composers.

I cannot use the World-Ready Composers because of the justified nonbreaking space see https://indesign.uservoice.com/forums/601180-adobe-indesign-bugs/suggestions/41793187-bug-since-cs6-nonbreaking-space-s-issue-wit

A test IDML file can be downloade here: https://cloud.publishingx.de/s/mMMkbxidwTiTfKR

    Please fix both bugs!

    Hi,
Did it work in previous versions of InDesign? Or only started happening after InDesign 15.1.1?

    Which font are you using?

  12. Long Text Variables kern instead of return to new line

    Indesign 2020
When using text variables with a bounding box that is too short for the line to fit, the line of dynamic text will squeeze together in order to fit instead of dropping to a new line. It would be nice if the line will drop down to a new line as normal text does in a text box.

  13. Font name incorrect when a character style is applied

If you make a character style that applies "Bold" (or some other font style) and then apply it to text, the font name changes incorrectly in the Font field of the Properties panel or Control panel.

For example, if the character style applies "Bold" and you apply it to text set to Minion Pro, then the font name changes to "Minion Pro Bold" and the style also changes to Bold.

This is incorrect. In older version of InDesign it worked correctly: The font name should stay "Minion Pro" and the style should change to "Bold"

  14. text shadow

I have a text box with Drop Shadow Effect on the text itself. When I edit the text, the shadow does not change. I discovered quite accidentally that Undo (CTRL+Z) then Redo (CTRL+SHIFT+Z) fixes the issue.

However, when I change the angle of the object (text box), the text moves but the shadow remains in place. I cannot fix it even by adjusting the Effect angle options.

I have another issue where I have two separate text boxes on the same page with the exact same font and supposed font size, but the text is quite obviously not actually the…

  15. Glyphs automatically replaced with indesign 15.0.1 update

After updating to version 15.0.1 indesign replaced automatically one of the glyphs of the Source Sans Pro font.
If the same file is openend with a previous version of indesign, glyph returns to its original appearance.

  17. Bug with world ready composer when use space like thin en or em space in Thai language. And bug in text wrapping in 2020 version.

After updated to 2020 version that added support to Asian languages (include Thai), it look like Indesign force user (in my case Thai) to set language in Advanced Character Formats to Thai. After set the language Indesign also require me to use World-Ready Composer to set all tone marks in place.
    .
Before the latest version, I always avoid to use World-Ready Composer because it combines a word to single object, not just locks tone mark and float vowel to character in the right position. By which it impossible to navigate with text tool to the position of text that…

  19. Indents incorrect when importing Word document

When importing a Word document that contains some indented paragraphs, the left indent being set to 5mm in Word (for example), once placed in InDesign, these 5mm indents typically show as 4.992mm. This would not neccesarily be a problem except that Find/Change in InDesign will not recognise an indent to 3 decimal places and therefore this cannot be located easily and fixed. This is proving to be a big problem in my workflow as I cannot automate the process of re-styling these paragraphs using InDesign Paragraph Styles with Find/Change. This bug occurs whatever measurement system is used, i.e. mm, inches,…

  20. Mongolian

Issue: InDesign does not support Mongolian vertical text direction from left-to-right.

    Version: InDesign 2019, 14.0.2 x64

    Steps:
    1. Place or paste Mongolian text into an InDesign text frame by using the attached Word document
    2. Skew the text frame 90 degrees (as done with vertical Chinese and Japanese).

Expected result: Please see the attached Word document and screenshot.

Actual result: Notice that the vertical text direction is right-to-left and not left-to-right. Even if the text frame is skewed in the opposite direction (minus 90 degrees) the text is just mirrored and thus not readable.

Test files and screenshot: They are…
