1. RTL Text Bugs Despite "Fixed" Notification

   InDesign 20.3.1.073

   Dear Adobe InDesign Development Team,
   We appreciate your efforts in addressing the RTL text issues introduced with the HarfBuzz engine in InDesign 19 (2024) and the improvements made through version 20.3.1.073.
   However, we must bring to your urgent attention that, contrary to your recent "Fixed" notification, several critical bugs remain unresolved, several critical bugs remain unresolved, impacting right-to-left (RTL) workflows (Hebrew & Arabic).

   Critical Bug:

   • #1: Disappearing Punctuation/Text in PDF Export with Drop Cap and Line Break When a drop cap is applied )in justified RTL text( followed by punctuation and a line break, the punctuation marks (and sometimes adjacent text) completely disappear in the exported PDF, leaving only white space.    Additional Unresolved Bugs:

   • 2: Reversed Cursor Navigation with Modifier Keys
     When navigating RTL text using arrow keys with Shift (to select text) or Command/Control (to skip words), the cursor moves in the opposite direction of the arrow pressed (e.g., right arrow selects text to the left). Regular arrow navigation (without modifiers) works correctly. This occurs in “Visual” cursor movement mode (Preferences > RTL > Cursor Movement) which is commonly used by RTL users.

   • 3: No Visual Indication for 'Nikkud' (Diacritics) Selection

2. [ID-4272086]TAB indents are getting removed on dragging the left side

   Good morning, I updated InDesign to version 21 and I'm having problems with the tab stops on both PCs. In the tab settings, if I set three tab stops, for example, the first at 10 cm, the second at 20 cm, and the third at 30 cm, if I move the first one, the other two disappear.
   With the beta version, there were no problems. I tried resetting the preferences, but nothing. A technician connected and checked the problem. He said to report the bug.

      • We require a proper fix in the current composition engine rather than reverting to legacy solutions

5. [ID-4246352]NIKKUD (accents/diacritics) selection has become invisible

   InDesign version: v20 (both Mac & PC)

   Hebrew letters can use NIKKUD - vocalization diacritical marks (function like Vowels) under/above the letter.

6. [ID-4243320] Incorrect cursor movement in RTL text when Harfbuzz text shaping is used.

   InDesign version: v20 (both Mac & PC)

   In right-to-left languages ​​(Hebrew & Arabic) the cursor movement went crazy:

   Conflict between discretionary hyphen behavior and "After First / Before Last" hyphenation zone settings, where InDesign ignores discretionary hyphens that fall within the prohibited hyphenation zone.

   Expected Behavior

   According to Adobe's documentation, discretionary hyphens should have absolute priority over automatic hyphenation rules. Specifically:

   "Entering a discretionary hyphen in a word does guarantee that the word can be broken only where the discretionary hyphen appears."

   When a word contains a discretionary hyphen that falls within the "After First X Letters" or "Before Last X Letters" prohibited zone, InDesign should:
   1. Respect the discretionary hyphen's exclusivity (only break where discretionary hyphen appears)
   2. Refuse to break the word at all since the only allowed break point falls within the prohibited zone
   3. Not apply automatic hyphenation anywhere else in the word

   Actual Behavior

   InDesign ignores the discretionary hyphen when it falls within the prohibited hyphenation zone and applies automatic hyphenation rules instead, breaking the word at algorithmically-determined positions that fall outside the prohibited zone.

   Conflicting Features

9. Deleting an odd number of pages causes the text frame derived from the primary text frame to double

   1. specify a primary text frame for both the left and right pages on the parent page. (figure1)
   2. Delete an odd number of pages. At this time, the parent page is reapplied.
   3. The text frame will be doubled. (figure2)

   Deleting (or adding) an even number of pages will not result in this behavior.
   Deletion/addition of an odd number of pages should not cause doubling.
   Specifically, we would like the text chain of the text frame for which the primary text frame is specified to be retained. (figure3)

   Reference:
   I believe the primary text chain is a feature that was added with the automatic text chain that was in QuarkXPress in mind, but the automatic text chain in QX did not cause duplication when odd number of pages were increased or decreased.

   1. specify a primary text frame for both the left and right pages on the parent page. (figure1)
   2. Delete an odd number of pages. At this time, the parent page is reapplied.
   3. The text frame will be doubled. (figure2)

   Deleting (or adding) an even number of pages will not result in this behavior.
   Deletion/addition of an odd number of pages should not cause doubling.
   Specifically, we would like the text chain of the text frame for which the primary text frame is specified to be retained. (figure3)

10. collapsed panels on the right side won't open

    version 21.0 ME
    collapsed panels on the right side don't always open when clicked on, it may work for a while but then stops until I reset my workspace, then it works for a while and then stops again.
    I tried creating a new workspace but still happens.
    The same thing happens to my coworker.

11. Lots of problems with fonts on InDesign (21.0.1)

    InDesign is not recognizing the fonts we previously used in version 20.5. When opening documents in version 21.0.1, InDesign prompts us to replace the fonts, even though those fonts are already installed on our computers.

    Additionally, when copying and pasting text from a template created in InDesign 20.5 into a new InDesign 21.0.1 document, the pasted text becomes unreadable.

    Steps to reproduce:

    Open a document created in InDesign 20.5 and add some text. Then open the same document in InDesign 21.0.1. Create a new text frame, copy the text from the original frame, and paste it into the new one.

    Expected result:

    • InDesign 21.1 should not prompt to replace fonts that are already installed.

    • Copying and pasting text should preserve the original characters without corrupting them or displaying random symbols or numbers.

12. MathML Rendering Error

    In InDesign v21.0, the updated Maths Expressions Panel automatically inserts mathvariant="normal" into the root <math> element after I edit an equation using the new panel. This behaviour does not occur until the equation is edited in version 21.0, but once it happens, the MathML rendering is altered incorrectly.

    Issue Details
    When I open and edit an existing MathML equation in the new Maths Expressions Panel (v21.0), InDesign injects mathvariant="normal" into the <math> tag upon saving.
    This overrides the default MathML behaviour and forces all <mi> elements to render upright (normal) instead of italic.

    • Manually deleting the attribute does not help—InDesign re-adds it every time I save or update the equation.
    • Choosing Italic under Typefaces Properties → Font Style further breaks MathML rules by causing <mn> and <mo> elements to become italic, which is incorrect.
    • The issue appears to originate from the new Font Style feature introduced in v21.0.

    Impact
    Once an equation is edited in version 21.0, its typography becomes incorrect. This affects mathematical accuracy, consistency, and the overall quality of my project’s typesetting.

    Requested Fix
    Please correct or remove the automatic insertion of mathvariant="normal" so MathML equations retain proper default styling—particularly the italicisation of <mi> tags—after editing.

13. When importing tables through tagged text, formatting inexplicably and erratically lost; extra hard returns inserted

    1. Adobe InDesign 20.5
    2. Flow the attached .txt files (tagged text) into an InDesign file. you'll need paragraph styles "TABC", "TABH1", "TABTX", and "TAB" (the paragraph for the table). You'll also need table style "TAB" and a cell style "tabtx".
    3. The last cell in table 19.2 should be empty—no hard return. The the text in row 2, column 3 of table 19.4, "katab" should be italic.
    4. There's a hard return in the last cell of table 19.2; any text in cell R2C3 in table 19.4 is not ital (but note that the text in table 19.2 at R2C3 is italic as expected.
    5. See the attached tagged text and Word files as well as the attached screen shot.

    When importing tagged text, I am seeing some formatting—like italic—dropped, and I'm also seeing extra hard returns inserted in the last cell of the table. These problems seem to be intermittent and unpredictable. For example, in a cell with this text

    <CellStart:><ParaStyle:TAB_TX><cTypeface:Italic>katab<cTypeface:><CellEnd:>

    "katab" is not being italicized, but in a cell with this text

    <CellStart:><ParaStyle:TAB_TX><cTypeface:Italic>qəṭál<cTypeface:><CellEnd:>

    "qəṭál" is italicized just fine.

    If I copy and paste the "qəṭál" cell into the first file replacing the "katab" cell, "qəṭál" is not italicized. I've attached the tagged text and Word files for each.

    The other weird thing I'm seeing is a hard return inserted in an otherwise empty last cell in the table. You can see it in the table 19.4 file.

    If it helps, I can upload the InDesign template as well.

14. The first letter typed in is English even when my system is set to Hebrew

    I'm using Indesign 20.5 on an Intel Mac Pro running Mac OS Sequoia 15.6.
    Here are the steps to reproduce the issue:
    1. Insert a new text box and enter some English text.
    2. Select the text
    3. Change the keyboard input to Hebrew.
    4. Start typing in Hebrew.

    The resulting text will be an English letter (corresponding to the Hebrew letter typed in) followed by the correct Hebrew letters typed.
    Two things to note:
    1. You must select all the text in the text box for this issue to take place.
    2. For some reason Adobe fonts are immune to this issue

15. Text Shifting

    Hello, our team has been having an issue of text randomly shifting within the text box. The entire baseline appears to shift down whenever I type in the text box, whenever I do find/ replace text, and when pasting within the text box. The Text frame options remain the same but the text appears to shift. Sometimes only half the text shifting down. This is mainly happening with a text box that is turned sideways in banners we have on the page. This seems to happen across all documents new and old. This is on version 21.0.2

16. Bug Report: “Find/Change” Story Option Not Appearing

    Hi Adobe Support Team,

    I would like to report a bug in Adobe InDesign. When using the Find/Change command, even though I select Story in the selection area, the Story option does not appear in the Find section.

    Currently, the only workaround I’ve found is to close and reopen InDesign, but the issue recurs every time. I can provide a screenshot to illustrate the problem if needed.

17. Conversion Process

    I have ran into a bug twice now where InDesign is forcing me to run a conversion on my indd files and when it does it inserts a '/' symbol in a paragraph. Unfortunately this was not apparent and the typo went into 145 paperback copies.

18. [ID-4257735]One Frame Grid Remains Unchanged When Modifying Multiple Selected Frame Grids

    InDesign CS4 (v6) and Later

    When changing the “Number of Characters per Line” or “Number of Lines” for multiple selected frame grids, one of the frame grids always fails to update. This bug, first observed in CS4 (v6), remains unresolved.

    Steps to Reproduce:
    1. Select multiple frame grids.
    2. Go to the menu and choose “Object > Frame Grid Options...”
    3. Modify the “Number of Characters per Line” or “Number of Lines” settings.

    Result: Changes are not reflected in one of the frame grids. It appears that the frame grid with the smallest object ID does not get updated.

    Expected Result: All selected frame grids should reflect the changes.

19. Outlining Texts when grouped

    For exporting print PDFs i often have to convert all texts into paths. That does not work if a Text is grouped with any objekt.
    I hope for an option to convert all texts into paths, even if they are grouped with other objects.

20. Cannot see text

    When using the Text tool, text is only visible when typing and disappears afterwards. I only know text is present through highlighting the text, however still the text is not visible (and I can only highlight text when it is off of the page). I checked layers and updated the application. All fonts are updated. I tried to change the font size, colour and checked through the effects.

    Error states: Overset text (1), although I already tried to adjust the size of the box and text as well as create a new text box.

    Edit: I can't see imported material either (images are invisible however detected). I have tried changing Display/GPU performance and updating the software; this did not work.
