  2. "GREP Load Find with selected text" is incomplete on macOS

    version: any OS: any macOS
Edit menu > Keyboard Shortcuts > Text and Tables > “GREP Load Find with selected text” also “GREP Load Find and Find Next instance”

If the selected text contains meta characters that are escaped with a backslash, such as "End of Paragraph" (\r) or tab characters (\t), they are all captured as ¥r and ¥t.
I’m forced to retype the ¥ into a \ before starting the search.
On Windows, it works without retyping.

“Forced line break" (\n) is not a problem as a function, but the display is corrupted, which makes me uneasy.

    It…

  4. BUG: Small Caps not applied correctly to Variable Text with World-ready Composer

Using Adobe Indesign 19.3 on MacOS 14.4, Apple M1.

    Steps to reproduce:
    1. Make new document.
    2. Define a text variable "Test" with custom text "Handgloves".
    3. Insert variable in text frame.
    4. Set the composer for that paragraph to "World-ready..."
    5. Set the paragraph in Small Caps
    6. Try different fonts.

    Expected result: small caps.

Actual Result: only first two characters are changed to small caps. Typing characters after the variable placeholder changes how many characters are changed to small caps. See attached video.

Workaround is to change the paragraph to a non World-ready composer.

    Note: may be related…

  6. Fully justified Arabic text drops the final period of paragraph when kashidas are on

In InDesign 19.00 and 19.01, if you set Arabic text to justify with last line aligned right and kashidas turned on, the final period of the paragraph drops from PDF output. This seems to happen only in RTL scripts; I can't recreate it in Latin script. Thread with details:

    https://community.adobe.com/t5/indesign-discussions/missing-dots-at-the-end-of-pharagraph-when-exporting-a-pdf-from-indesign/m-p/14265941#M552557

I've uploaded a PDF showing the missing periods, but when attempting to upload the corresponding INDD file, I get an error dialog claiming that "the following files are not supported and have been removed". Same is true if I zip it before attempting to upload... and I can't find a…

  7. Multi-character input from Indic keyboards failing

Tested in InDesign 2023 18.5.1 and 2024 19.1, on Mac OS Ventura 13.4

Several Indic keyboard layouts include keys that input a sequence of more than one character as a shortcut for typing the common –ra,, r–, or other syllabic forms that Unicode encodes as a sequence of multiple characters. So, for example, the Mac Sinhala keyboard assigns the following multi-character sequences to individual keys:

    [`] = ්‍ර (rakārānsaya, U+0DCA U+200D U+0DBB)

    [Shift]+[`] = ර්‍ (repaya, U+0DBB U+0DCA U+200D)

    [Shift]+[H] = ්‍ය (yansaya, U+0DCA U+200D U+0DBA)

But in InDesign only the first character of each sequence is input, the second…

  8. "Visual Cursor Movement" not working in Arabic in ID 19/19.01

On previous versions of ID with Arabic support, I could press left arrow to move cursor left, right arrow to move right. In versions 19 and 19.01, the cursor goes to the beginning or next line of Arabic text. So I have to select 'Logical Cursor Movement' under settings but now cursor move the opposite way: left arrow moves cursor right.

  9. Auto-Sizing of text frames results in abnormally long widths

InDesign 2023 v18.1 (Probably occurs in all versions after CS6)
    Japanese Version
    English Version
    Mac snd Windows

There is a terrible bug in Auto-Sizing for text frames that causes the width to become unusually long.

    Simple and reliable reproduction procedure

    1. Create a new document
    2. Set all units to points in Preferences
    3. Create a new text frame
    4. Set paragraph style to “Basic Paragraph” and clear overrides
    5. Set Auto-Sizing
-->Change to “Height and Width” --> Click the upper left corner -->Turn on “No Line Breaks”
    6. Insert Spacing to 1 pt
    7. Corner Options to 1 pt and Round
    8. Enter “0 [Line Break]” repeatedly…

  10. Text wrap should work normally with anchored objects

Just make text wrap on an anchored object work exactly as it does when you have a seperate object. Not sure what the point is of having it ignore the text wrap for objects above the line it's anchored to. I can always tell it to ignore if that's what I want.

  14. Why can't the "cell style" control the height of the line in the table?

Why can't the "cell style" control the height of the line in the table?
If the "cell style" can control the height of the line, it will definitely save a lot of unnecessary operations. I wonder why it should be set manually?

  15. Adding words to Thai User Dictionary does not add whole word recognition

In Thai, you can add a word with or without hyphenation to the Thai language User Dictionary and that word does not become recognized as a whole word. If you double click on the word, it will still only highlight parts of the word that it recognizes as forming a word (leaving the rest of the added word not selected).

This leads to hyphenation problems because if InDesign still sees the word in three parts then it will break the word into those parts without recognizing the need to hyphenate the word.

So there needs to be a way for…

  16. Thai Launguage and Optical margins

With Thai language and world-ready paragraph composer on InDesign 19.3, by default optical margins are enabled. but this does not produce desirable adjustments. It does hang the left margin outside just a little but it does not recalculate the line for Left Justification. So the right side become shorter by the same amount as it moved the line to the left.

  19. Variable Font Custom Weights Not Available

InDesign 19.1. I recently installed a new variable font from Monotype (https://www.myfonts.com/collections/unitext-variable-font-monotype-imaging). When using the slider to adjust the weight variable, the font breaks and defaults to the regular weight.

The same font works fine on Illustrator. Other variable fonts on InDesign (e.g. Acumin Variable) also work fine, so the issue seems to be tied to this specific font and InDesign only.

  20. installed font missing InDesign 17.2 macOS 12.3 (Monterey) and macOS Catalina

Different clients have the same problem. Installed fonts on the system are not recognised by InDesign 17.2. Other Adobe applications recognise the font and it can be used in those applications. I can recreate the problem, my colleague not. After downgrading InDesign to version 17.01 everything works fine.

We've just released InDesign 17.2.1 version which addresses this issue.

Please update to this latest version using Creative Cloud Desktop application.

In case the fix does not work immediately for you, please try the following:

    1) Quit InDesign.

    2) Delete the following:

    on Mac:

    /Users/[yourname]/Library/Caches/Adobe InDesign

    /Users/[yourname]/Library/Preferences/Adobe InDesign

    on Win:

    C:\Users\[yourname]\AppData\Roaming\Adobe\InDesign

    C:\Users\[yourname]\AppData\Local\Adobe\InDesign

Relaunch InDesign & see if it works properly now.
