1. Panels minimized at start up

   When InDesign starts up all the panels are minimzed. I have to click "Reset Workspace" to make them appear maximized again.

2. Reopen color theme floating palettes

   I have a workbook/training document that has sections, and each section uses a different color scheme. I used the Color Theme tool to create the different color themes for the various sections. But with each new theme, I lost the preceding floating palette. It would be so helpful to be able to reopen a color theme floating palette that is based on a theme you saved in the Swatches panel. It would be more convenient to drag the floating palette around the screen (near to the objects where you want to apply fill or stroke) than to have to undock, drag, expand, and collapse the color palette itself, especially if you have a workspace all arranged that you don't want to disrupt. Plus, the floating palette has larger color thumbnails than does the swatch palette, so swatches are easier to see on monitors where the resolution is set high.

3. Condition Sets: Show overrides when the set has a +

   In every other panel, when there is a style override, resulting in a + symbol, if you hover over the symbol, it will tell you specifically what the overrides are. For example, a different type size, or font family or leading or something along those lines.

   But in the Condition Sets dropdown, all you get is that there are overrides. And you can either clear them or redefine the set. But if I choose to clear the overrides, I have no way of knowing what the result will be.

4. Offset path

   iD : Fr : Offset path
   I found myself stuck by wanting to make a simple offset path inside inDesign. This seems to HAVE to be DONE in Illustrator.
   Bad thing about that is that if I have to go back and forth between both, I’ll have to place it correctly, when it should be a simple value in any unit to enter.

5. An AI procedure/tool creates design variations across disparate custom page sizes in a document.

   In a document that has multiple pages, where each page has different custom dimensions, what if there were an AI tool that used elements from page 1 to create adapted layouts for the remaining pages of the document?

   You could include a few parameters, like whether or not to allow text smaller than agate text, or to allow new margins to be established vs honoring the document settings for margins, etc. Perhaps a disclaimer flag for elemetns that are small print text and could be omitted from smaller ad sizes.

   The procedure/tool could consider heirachy based on size, color, brightnes contrast or position to better decide the layout.

   Then the resulting pages would still be editable/tweakable to the designer.

   This would be useful to the two companies where I work every day. Specifically, designing similar ads across disparate Google ad sizes, FB Posts, web sliders, etc... for a campain. In fact it would be a productivity game changer.

   Liquid layout is nice, but it lacks sophistication that AI appears to offer. Also Liquid layout requires you manually change the page size after its existence, as opposed to a tool that creates adaptations on all remaining pages at once.

6. InDesign index review. Add word highlighting when selecting the entry.

   The InDesign index feature is really neat, except when trying to review the entries that are added after using the add all command. This is especially problematic when multiple entries for that word exist on the page. Currently, I have to click "go to selected marker" where it puts my insertion point at the beginning of the marker. These are very difficult to locate, especially when using 4K monitors.

   Instead, it would be nice if I could click the marker entry in the index panel and have it magically take me to the page AND highlight the entry so that I can see it in context.

   Minimally, if we could add the ability to highlight the entry when clicking the "Go to marker" button, it would make a world of difference.

7. InDesign Cannot Artifact Leader Dots (Accessibility)

   InDesign has no way of artifacting leader dots. This can only be done in PDF. Leader dots are commonly used in tables of contents to guide the reader's eye from the end of the entry to the page number. Leader dots are voiced by access technologies such as screen readers and force users with disabilities to hear, "DOT DOT DOT DOT DOT DOT DOT DOT DOT DOT DOT DOT DOT DOT DOT DOT DOT DOT DOT DOT DOT DOT DOT DOT ..." If they are not artifacted. This is a painstaking process that requires InDesign users to learn PDF Remediation, a highly specialized skillset that is typically outside the role of the average Graphic Designer. Currently, the process for artifacting leader dots is to ind the first leader dot in the Tags tree. Right click on it and choose Show in Content Panel. Expand the content containers until you find the first set of leader dots. Right click on them and choose “Create Artifact.” Ignore the options panel and click “OK” to set the artifact. Repeat with all other leader dots. This issue affects EVERY SINGLE InDesign user who is required to make accessible content. Please make artifacting leader dots an option within InDesign so painstaking remediation is not required.

8. Content Placer Tool Place Into Existing Frame

   The behaviour should be exactly the same when i place a document with the Place... option. Hold the alt key, the pointer shows two opening brackets to indicate the Paste into function and Done. Currently I cant place collected content into frames. I always have to click and drag new ones.

9. outline entire layer

   It would be great if there were an easier solution to outline your tekst. I think I have a solution that would be great in a workflow.

   It would be great if, in a indesign document, I could put all the text on one layer. Then, in the layer panel on the right, to right click the layer and convert all the tekst of that layer (throughout the whole document) to outlines!

   Obviously, you could duplicate the tekst layer and set it to don't pint so you always have a version of the text to edit.

12. Control When to Update Graphic Links

    This is sort of already here, but my suggestion is more specific: Currently, graphic links are updated when a document opens. When a link is changed, it automatically updates with a document – but only the first time. After that, we need to click update in the links panel, which is a little onerous when I'm updating links often. It would save a lot of clicks if we could specify in the preferences to ALWAYS update links without asking (or not). So, it would be great to have two settings:
    • update links automatically, always, without asking
    • update links only via the palette or asking.

13. Add an x to close out a color theme box easily like other panels

    Make it easier to close out the color theme box after using the color theme eye dropper tool. Currently, you have to reselect the color theme tool in the toolbar and press esc, which is not at all obvious, simple, or easy to remember.

15. Switch between multiple links created for one project

    If you need to create multiple links for one layout, for example one for internal review and one for the client - how can you switch back and forth between them directly from the Share for Review panel in InDesign? Can it really be that if you create a new link (for whatever reason) you can never go back and update a link that has already been created?

16. Have a linked page display on a page

    IIt would be incredibly useful to display a page within an object on another page. This would also update automatically whenever the page updated and show up in the links panel like other links. You could then treat it like any other linked object by being able to crop, resize, etc.

    This would reduce the amount of exports and reimports and allow for greater flexibiity.

17. Removal modal warnings when opening a document.

    Such as missing links, fonts, etc. Perhaps a docked issues panel once the document is open, but modals block the loading, and if you happen to be opening several old documents at the same time... Also the one that needs attention inevitably pops under the one that says the document is loading. Just remove them all and find another way to give the user feedback.

    I use indb files extensively. It opens short, large display and in middle of field. I make small panels, pull it below bottom file and move it. Why can’t we control its display like other panels ?

19. Go to Page (book-aware version of command)

    The Go to Page command only works within a document. The Go to Page in Book command would open up the requested page in the Book file, regardless of whether the document were open at the time or not.

    This is a valuable command because when editing long books with many chapters, it is useful to go directly to a page to make a change. It saves having to take your hand off the keyboard to the mouse, open the possibly closed Book panel, find the file that is in the page range, double-click it to open it, and then execute Go to Page.
