  1. Share for Review Strikethrough Comments Become Unmapped when Text is Deleted

My editor often uses the Strikethrough text tool in Share for Review. When I delete the specified text, the corresponding Strikethrough comment becomes unmapped. This is a problem in large documents because it is difficult to remember what part of the document the now unmapped comment referred to. My editor needs to be able to confirm that her requested edits were resolved.

  2. Searchable text

I would also like a feature i.e. text of indd files should be searchable without opening the indd file, and using its find and replace dialog box. i have hundereds of indd txt files. and everytime i need to search some thing in my indd files, so i have to open all the files and use the dialog box,
is there any option to do this without opening the indd file. like the search panel in finder, it finds in pdf, word, excel docs,

  3. UX improvement: When changing color on selected Text Fields, Text Color should be changed over textfields background color

It happens so often that I select a textfield, quickly pick a color from the color swatches and the entire text field gets a background color - although I obviously wanted to change the text color.
I have to manually go in and switch from text field background color to font color. I think this could be avoided.

  4. Improve handling of long footnotes

Handling of long footnotes could be improved in at least three ways:

    1. Sometimes a footnote absolutely cannot start on the same page as its reference either because the given footnote follows so closely behind a very long footnote (or a dense cluster of shorter footnotes). Presently, InDesign simply stops setting text at that point, as it would when a hits a word it cannot fit into any subsequent frame in the story. Ideally such footnotes would be not only be permitted but be custom-labelable—e.g. “(from p. 17)”—but for now simply permitting such footnotes, elegantly or not, would be a far…

  5. intelligent swatches for type

When changing selection from object to text frame swatches should change to the text itself intead of the text box.
I always accidentially fill the text box with colour first instead of the text. I think, users want to change the text colour a lot more often than the colour of the text box.

  7. Set Solid Leading for Text

Having a Set Solid Leading Option for Text would be amazing as I regularly use this setting and have to manually change the leading everytime I change the point size (and sometimes when you're working out the perfect point size and spacing for a layout, this doubles the work having to change the leading everytime too).

  8. text anchor symbol easier to see

Double the diameter of the dots in the blue colon symbol used to represent a text anchor. Very hard to see compared with other symbols when "Show Hidden Characters" is turned on. And maybe move them a bit to the left so they're further from the beginning of the text anchor.

  9. Conditional Text to Control Master Page Application

Enable the use of Conditional Text to trigger automatic switching or application of specific Master Pages. In complex layouts, this would streamline the process of dynamically changing page templates based on content variations or project stages.

  10. Grid guide for graphic frames

In much the same way that the crop tool in Photoshop has optional grid overlays (rule of thirds, golden spiral etc), Indesign could have the option to toggle these on/off for graphic frames.

This would be immensely useful for positioning images in graphic frames – for example when placing a headshot and wanting to align the subjects eye using the rule of thirds or golden ratio.

This would be far better than having to crop/resize images in Photoshop in advance, particularly because you can then adjust the size of the graphic frame in Indesign without having to redo…

  12. Speed up baseline setup

Setting up a baseline grid can be easier, I think.

A workflow speed-up like this would be great:

    1) select the basic text
    2) click on a button that does all these things at once:
    - Show baseline grid
    - base the baseline grid on the line height of the selected text without going to the preferences panel (line height, etc.)
    - align the text to the baseline grid

I think this feature is great for newer, and existing Indesign users and can be a great addition to the feature request in this thread:

  13. Height & width in object styles needs more options

I did try out the new H&W feature in CC2018 using it on a image frame with a picture inside it. I anchored it to the heading of each chapter and wanted to see if I could resize the image from the object style panel. This did not work the way I was hoping for; There is no way to lock the H&W proportions so that the frame fits the image dimensions. I could not determine a reference point from where the frame is growing. A great upgrade to the feature would be: Lock proportions, scale content with the frame

  14. Allowing the Review Function to have live text editable/collaborative

The company I work for focuses more on publishing where we are working between an art and development team and an editorial team.

Currently, we use InCopy to allow our editors to be more hands on with their major changes they need to text. But it creates a long wait time, packaging and uploading large files to our current servers, and room for error for the designer or editor to not be working from the most updated file. The problem we are having with InCopy not only is the human error of the risk of outdated files, but uploading…

  15. Endnotes from Word as plain text, please. Just like it used to be.

Could you please add the option to InDesign to import Word files with endnotes as plain text? Just like it used to be?
The new footnote and endnote features are disastrous for my work as a book designer.
InDesign shouldn't become a text processor, I think. It is a design tool.

  16. Ignore effects

Just like you can "Ignore text wrap" it would be very helpful to be able to "Ignore effects" on objects and text frames.

Often you have a lot of shadows and other effects that you don't want certain objects to be affected by.

In the example here I have put a dark outer glow on the text frame that I want to affect the background picture – but not affect the logo or the bar code box.

I know you can get around it with making sure that these objects are put on top of the text frame –…

  18. color limitation in underline text

When I want to have a color in the background of a text (but not the whole block, only the text), I use character style, underline option with strength and negative offset. For the color I can only choose a few others are not available. It would be nice to be able to choose any color. Any example can be found in the attached file. There I would want to have the yellow color in the dark blue color of the logo.

  20. Transparency/opacity settings for paragraph shading

It would be nice to have transparency/opacity settings for paragraph shading. In certain designs, it would be nice if paragraph shading worked a lot like a frame fill that you can control the transparency and blending options for the shading portion. This would be applicable to borders as well. Right now, to get the semblance of semi-transparency, you have to apply it to the whole frame, but you may just want the shading and no other elements to be affected.
