Object alignment to frame
Can there also be an option in the Align window to enable embedded or grouped objects to align with their parent frame? The feature would be disabled by default for parent or objects that don't have any child (embedded or grouped) objects.
The feature would enable users to align objects that are grouped/embedded to be aligned to the frames boundaries and horizontal/vertical centres, which would not be possible with current alignment options. It could also help users to align objects that have uniquely shaped frame boundaries.

Mention the layer at the bottom of the window or in the Control Panel
You have to open the Layer Panel to check what layer you're working on. It would be a time saver if the active layer is mentioned somewhere else in the UI.

Add Pasteboard Options to Document Setup
It would be handy if Pasteboard Options could be set in the New Document/Document Setup window - OR - Pasteboard default size options could be set as a percentage of document size (so it will scale relative to doc size).
My default paste board size is fine for most jobs I do (which are generally brochures / flyers etc); but it is too small for working on large banners etc. I find I am changing the preferences all the time.

LINKS
When documents lose the link, finding the image or file is a real drag because I can neither copy the text from the link panel nor does it stay open when I open the finder to search for what I can recall from the link window. It would be great if I could right click and it opens a search field with that name in it OR stay open when I open the finder so that I can type the name in accurately.

Control bar font menu extension
re: the control bar font menu, v14
This dropdown has been improved with more features, but also has lost something valuable: it now only lists about 10 fonts at a time--to see more you have to scroll. It used to drop down the length of the InDesign window, so that you could see dozens of fonts at a time. Please allow users the ability to extend the dropdown to any length they wish.2 votes -
Glyph preference
Hello,
I've encountered a problem where a client is requesting all glyphs for the letter 'g' be changed to an alternate glyph within the same typeface.
Whilst style and GREP methods might work, a method to be able to quickly change the default primary glyph within a set would be amazing.
Currently I can see a small triangle in the corner of the primary used glyph within the glyph window, but would love to be able to move that to the alternate version for that font on that machine within InDesign.
Thank you.

BUG? Random grey bars on screen in ID CC
I'm trying out ID CC and opened an ID C6 file to test. There are grey bars that appear randomly on screen. Not in fit in window view but in any other view when zoomed. Please see attached screen shot of the grey bars.
I'm using a 13" MacBook Pro (2017) with 16GB RAM. Under preferences, Display Performance is set to default and CPU Performance shows Compatible CPU and Monitor Detected.
How to resolve this?

Can you put "Window >Type & Tables > Story" into the properties panel when working with text?
Can you put the "Story" feature from type & tables into the properties panel as a check box like hypenation?

Tab in footnote prefix for aligned decimals
I have a document with over 100 footnotes. I need to align the decimals of every footnote. To do this, I expected to be able to set up in the footnote style an "align to decimal" tab, and then a "justify left" tab for the footnote content, and then a TAB prefix in the "Document Footnote Options." However, there seems to be no way to place a tab as a Footnote text prefix. Entering ^t does nothing, and it gets cleared as soon as I close the options window. Other text or even special characters like ^r for registered trademark…

Exclude specified paragraph or character style/s from spellcheck
Allow us to exclude from the spellcheck text with a specific paragraph or character style/s applied to it.
2 possible ways:
1. a tick box in the paragraph or character style settings to say 'exclude from spellcheck'
or 2. a field in the spellcheck window where you could nominate which styles to exclude.
I think the first option would be the better one. it may be a good idea to have with it an alert in preflight 'these styles have been excluded from spellcheck:...' in case the box is left ticked accidentally. This way we can exclude things like product…

Open more than one document per session (in Open > Recent)
I copydesk book files using InCopy. The book comes to me in chapters, 1 file per chapter, each in a separate subfolder. I work on each book/chapters for several weeks, so I have to close/open them several times a week (and turn off my computer every day, of course). I know there must be a way to merge these documents into a book or something like that, but that's not the point here (I have to accept this workflow and manage it as best I can). Also, I'm not talking here about file tabs, of course (I open several documents…

Pages pallet thumbnails need updating to be easier to see selections
I find seeing were I am in a document difficult in the pages thumbnails.
As I scroll through a long document there's no indication of the page I'm looking at until I click an element on the screen page. And then the "indicator" is just the subtle highlighting of the text and a colour overlay on the thumbnail.
Feels like a legacy thing. If it was created new today we'd use something far more obvious.
I'd like to see a rectangle floating over the pages that matches the frame of the main document window (for example).
Or at least a…2 votes -
Cleaner Workspace Option
When working in InDesign, if I click on the Paragraph Styles tab, it opens to the left and covers part of the workspace and scroll bar. If you look at the image supplied, the Properties Tab shows all the options in one place clearly, and it is out of the way.
Could we have a setting where, when one selects a tab, it opens into a right side panel and does not extend over or into the work space. That will also help when resizing the window.
this enhancement will help avoid closing tabs all the time, (unless one chooses…

Button to uniform Master page(s) margins to the whole Document margins
In the Layout/Margins and Coloumns window menu when I have selected a Master Page, I find no way to re-uniform the margins to the original margins set for the entire document. This would be a useful feature: when I changed the format adding 4mm to my 17x24 cm to be 17x24,4cm as the standard used by Amazon kdp for paper format, I would like to preserve the preceding paging by adding 2 mm to the inferior and superior margins. I did it in the menu File/set document for the whole document, but I saw my pages did not update since…

Story editor maximum line width
It would be great to have a maximum line width, perhaps a maximum number of characters per line, for the story editor (in both InDesign and InCopy).
This is most useful when writing when the story editor is docked on a large monitor. It seems to be best for readability to work with lines of 64 to 80 characters, and at the moment the text simply flows to the entire width of the window.
The current behaviour could be available by setting the maximum number of characters per line to 0, for example. Also, I envision that if there is…

I opened my Indesign program and a message asked if I could provide input on how to improve Indesign. Here is my reply.
I tried to write this response in the "Help Improve Adobe Products" window that opens up on launch of Indesign, but I ran out of space:
Indesign has layer after layer after layer of instructions on how do even the most common things. The problem is that in order to understand one layer, you have to understand at least the terminology and concepts of the other layers. These days, when you open the box for many devices there is a quick set up document included. I recommend that you do something like that. But not with instructional videos. Someitimes you…2 votes -
Change label for "Use Document Bleed Settings" to "Use Active Document's Bleed Settings"
When exporting a book under Export Adobe PDF > Marks and Bleeds > Bleed and Slugs, it would be helpful (for other users to avoid the frustration of learning the hard way as I just did) to know that this setting uses the active document's settings rather than each document's respective settings (Guessing this is a limitation with how PDF is constructed, otherwise is this perhaps actually a bug?), or if no document is active that it will apply all zeros.
The latter was the problem I encountered and was not expecting, as every document in my book has the…

3 new features for web address problems - a major problem in modern textual books
In textual books there now can be hundreds of web addresses used within the text and references. There is a major problem with them in the fact that in justified text they can cause:
(a) widely spaced lines
(b) InDesign can insert discretionary hyphens to try to split the address to make the word spacing better (which means that when printed the web address would be wrong for the reader as it has hyphens that shouldn't be there). The only workaround at the moment for this is to remove the discretionary hyphens by either hitting a return in its place,…

Displaying docs side by side; use the whole screen
I have two docs to either compare or take details from etc, I need them side by side, so I use the Window > Arrange option and have them in whatever config I need. They then resize to ⅔ the screen size next to each other. Then grabbing a corner to resize the window makes them jump all over the place. It works perfectly fine when I split a window (Window > Arrange > Split Window), it keeps the doc full size of the screen, so why not when tiling?

Remember last selected section in Preferences
Remember the last selected section in the Preferences window.
For example, if I selected File Handling then clicked OK in the Preferences window, File Handling should be selected the next time I open Preferences.
Right now it always defaults to General. While in many cases I want to use the last preferences section I used before when I open the Preferences window.
