Scaling with conditional text
When scaling a text box allow all hidden conditional text to scale. As of now only the visible text scales. This is extremely inconvenient when working with a lot of conditional text,

Update linked text from CC Libraries without effecting styles
Please add an opinion to "Place Linked" text without effecting the style after an edit to the text. Imagine the text in the CC Libraries is the master. This master text could be placed in many documents with different styles. Let say your company has a tagline. The tagline could be a different font size in each document. This way you could keep a master product description and place it in many documents with different styles.
Thank You

Copy & paste formatted text between apps
It is beyond baffling that Adobe is so incompetent they have not been able to implement a way to copy and paste formatted text between their own applications. There can only be two reasons we can’t copy and paste formatted text between (for example) Illustrator and InDesign: Either Adobe is unwilling to add this feature or Adobe is incapable of adding this feature.
Even a way to save formatted text between programs then place it would be an improvement over the nothing we have now.

Trim dimension text variable
Client: “THIS IS THE WRONG SIZE!”
Designer: “But I put the trim dimension text variable in the slug area! Oh, right. There is no trim dimension text variable.”

Smart Text Reflow + Data Merge
When using Data Merge, if text is too long to fit on the standard 2-page Master page spread, then InDesign should automatically create additional pages (either by repeating the Master spread, or allowing Master spreads to consist of more than 2 pages) utilizing Smart Text Reflow to continue the text thread instead of oversetting the text.
My personal use case: I am working with a teacher at a university to create a literature magazine, and need to compile multiple long-form submissions into one document. Since up to 200 students could be submitting work, it is important that this can…

Paragraph Border Controls when Split across Columns or Frames
There needs to be a control that "If paragraph breaks between columns or frames" restricts the paragraph border to: "baseline" , "cap-height" and perhaps a value offset for this. At the very least there needs to be the "clip to frame" option for paragraph border like there is for paragraph shading. However, the controls for baseline and cap-height would be ideal.

Sequential frames
Having more options for frames to make them sequential, for instance if I have 20 text frames for 20 files or pages instead of clicking to insert into each frame if we were able to number them or perhaps a checkbox when creating them to create sequential ones, so that when we click the first one it automatically places the following pages or files into the next frames. Kind of like how you link text boxes to continue the text except with the frames.

Need to View and Edit Alt Text in InCopy
As an editor I need to be able to preview Alt text for Images and also edit that Alt Text if needed. Currently I need to go to Indesign to do that.

Allow alignment of an object to two guidelines that I create, instead of to the page or other objects
When trying to align text or an object to a box or area that is not aligned to the center of the page - allow me to create guidelines (drag out from side of ruler) to the edges of the box or area and select the guidelines and the text or object and align the text or object to the center of the guidelines.

Add the ability to 'warp' live text
We do the vast majority of our designing in InDesign, so having to go to Illustrator to manipulate text is quite a disconnect to the workflow.
Unless you take the entire layout to Illustrator it is hard to get the text 'warp' accurate to your layout. It involves too much trial and error jumping between the programmes.
We know Illustrator is very capable, but so is InDesign. In fact some of the vector drawing tools in InDesign are far better designed than Illustrators equaivalents - so much so that it is often easier to create artwork entirely in InDesign.
Thanks!

Multi Select Words within text
A feature long missing is the ability to select non continuous words within a text block. It seems like such an obvious need to me.
Ie in the above text, I want to format the words - long, select, such and me - to be inbound or a different size, or caps. Unless I am mistaken, this would need to be done individually. Just like you can easily do in WORD!!!!!

Precise Text Wrap Control for Column Rules
I love the Column Rules feature in the Text Frame Options Dialogue. What keeps me from using it as often as I'd like is due to how column rules interact with text wrap.
I'd like to have: 1. Numerical control of how rules wrap independent from text in the text wrap dialogue box, or: 2. The ability for rules to be locked to baseline grids. Perhaps having both would give the perfect amount of control?
Please see my screen grab attached. You will see that the body copy wraps as expected, but the column rule does not. It's sticking above…

Lock text passages e.g. legal texts
We have a lot of texts for legal reasons in our sales brochure. Like somewhere in between. Now we have a workaround to put these texts at the end of a page at the same spot in every brochure but while editing it often happens that e.g. by accident parts of the texts get erased.
It would be so helpful to lock important parts of the text but keep them in the whole text "fluently" at the same time. It doesnt matter where the text is but it has to be there.
I hope I described my…4 votes -
Text from a paragraph style used in a variable does not carry any character styling
Text from a paragraph style used in a variable does not carry any character styling.
Define a variable using the text of a specific paragraph style. Add character styles to the text (or use a GREP style) and when the text is
pulled" by the variable the character style is not reflected.Often this is used for running headers and footers. Example: if the registered trademark symbol is added to the text, it is regular case in the variable.
This also really screws up the ToC when the paragraph style is used in a ToC

Paragraph shading (and borders) should be able to clip/inset based on the text box
Paragraph shading extends outside of the text box. This is especially annoying when shaded text spans over multiple pages (see screenshot: AutoShading.png). It would be great if it could automatically clip and inset based on the text box—see screenshot: HowItShouldLook.png. The current solutions I can think of are really messy and easily negated.

Make overset text + icon stand out better
Maybe it is just me grappling with this, but I find it extremely hard to see the overset text ‘+’ in the bottom right of the text frames. Sure, I can go to preflight panel and resolve everything from there, but I often fix many other things too as I go and work quite visually. If the box had a red fill and the + was white, it would stand out better. Currently I have to zoom way out to get an idea of where they are.

Place Images Behind Text Without Outlines
Description:
In Adobe InDesign, there is currently no option to place images behind text without converting the text to outlines or paths. In Photoshop, this is easily achieved using layer masks and clipping masks. It would be highly beneficial to have a similar feature in InDesign, allowing users to place images directly behind text that can still be edited (font, size, and content) without converting it to outlines.Benefits for Users:
Increased flexibility and efficiency when working with text and images
Ability to maintain the editability of the text (users can continue to adjust font, size, and wording)

Would like to be able to anchor images anywhere and have the text wrap respected
Specific anchor location is important for placements in ePub/HTML exports. However, there are a couple major drawbacks with InDesign's current anchoring abilities.
(1) If an image is supposed to appear after a certain paragraph, but that paragraph ends on the previous spread, you cannot anchor the image to the paragraph it belongs with on the previous spread. (see screenshot: ToPreviousSpread.png). This seems to defeat the purpose of an anchored object. It can't be anchored so will not travel with re-flowing text and it will not Export to ePub/HTML in that specific location.
(2) Images cannot be anchored after their placement…
