  1. drag csv or txt file into Data Merge Panel

    Dear Adobe Developers,
It would be awesome to be able to drag and drop a txt- or csv-file straight from the finder into the Data Merge Panel.

    Kind Regards

  2. Enough blue, pop-up bubbles — It’s interruption and torture.

What’s much more useful is a tour of new features in each release. This could be standalone / outside the app. Thanks!

  3. New Document dialog: trim safety margins

Print ads have trim, bleed, and safety margins on the inside of the page. Add the ability to define the safety margin in the New Document dialog. It would be better than using Margins and Columns.

  4. Variable Spot Colors from Illustrator Definable in InDesign

The ability to create a vector graphic in Illustrator, fill it with a variable spot color swatch (ie "Variable Color 1/2/3" etc.) and then when that spot color is imported into InDesign you can define it to match your project. Ideally on a per-instance basis, but even just editing the color globally from the swatches panel would be a big help. It would save hiving to make multiple versions of a graphic for each color you need - and that you may never need again.

For now my workaround is to make a layered PDF from Illustrator with a layer…

  5. Paste Variable text

In Find/Change have an option to paste a variable. I will often search for a word and then need to paste a variable. Currently I have to right-click the results, choose Insert Variable, and then choose the variable.

Do that 10 times when a writer forgets to use a variable, replace all would be great.

  6. Text from a paragraph style used in a variable does not carry any character styling

Text from a paragraph style used in a variable does not carry any character styling.

Define a variable using the text of a specific paragraph style. Add character styles to the text (or use a GREP style) and when the text is
pulled" by the variable the character style is not reflected.

Often this is used for running headers and footers. Example: if the registered trademark symbol is added to the text, it is regular case in the variable.

This also really screws up the ToC when the paragraph style is used in a ToC

  8. External link to a specific point of a Publish Online document

Can we get a way to link directly to a text anchor, hyperlink destination, page # etc from an external source?

For example: I'd like to publish product documentation using Publish Online, and it would be nice to be able to link to a page or text anchor from a help document that would take someone to a specific point (i.e. a connection diagram).

  9. Zoom box in Pages Window

I would like to see in CC InDesign the ability to see where you're zoomed in at in your pages window. Also, I'd like to be able to click and hold onto the highlight zoomed in the area on the pages window and move it to update the preview when I let go of the highlighted zoom box.

This would be helpful for us users that create large catalogs and would like to quickly JUMP-TO a portion of a page. With large catalog files, the program can get sluggish/slow. When the user has to scroll through a bunch of pages…

  11. Update the new New Document dialog box

    1. Add the ability to removed saved and recent presets easily—individually and collectively
    2. Add a preview checkbox (so new users can see the page they are building as in the legacy New Document dialog box)
    3. Update the way you save a new preset—right now there is a box to type in a new name, but when you click on the Save icon you have to type the name in again.

  12. Colour picker

Bring back the old Eyedropper tool, or make it an option.. The RGB one is pretty useless when working in print.

  13. SimpleWideShort Stoke start/End

A new start/End point for stokes being like the simplewide one, but being shorter, it's a needed feature when add technical measure to a illustration that was made out side of indesign. These technical drawing have some very small parts, and having a shorter simplewide point would be a great help, also changing scale is no help because I want the stroke width to remain the same.

  15. other default setting for layer options when placing PDFs

When placing a PDF, default setting for actualization is "keep user-defined visability ...".
Once switched to "keep PDFs visability ...", in the next document it is again on default "keep user-defined visability ..."
I would prefer to have "keep PDFs visability ..." as a stable default for placing.

    Example:
    1. I added a new Layer to a PDF, but set it invisable by mistake.
    2. On actualization, I accepted "new layers visible as in PDF".
    3. Later, I remarked my mistake an repaired the PDF.
    4. On actualization again, nothing got better ...

I would prefer to know the PDFs…

  18. Traditional Book Focus

I write long traditional books with hundreds of black and white text pages. Adobe's focus as a graphics company may be why it misses some important issues for people like me. Editing hundreds of pages of text and incorporating feedback is extremely difficult.

To accomplish this I have to get the full layout correct with many chapters all in individual files and then create a PDF version of the book. of course, when viewed two up the pages don' align properly if I don't insert a blank page as the first page using DC. Simple fix, give me a proofing…

  19. Allow placement of AI files without PDF compatability.

Currently, with a workflow that includes placing AI file into indesign, the AI files must be saved with PDF compatability turned on. This not only embeds all linked assets inside the AI file, but duplicates all the artwork as well making the file size of the saved AI file much much larger.

This request is to allow INDD to place native AI files without an embedded PDF copy of all the artwork and without links embedded. If we could do this, we'd literally save half our storage space if not more due to all the duplication of links and artwork…

  20. Price format : Wordbased diagonal strike-through

    1. Price formatting : we need a character style that allows BARRED PRICE styles : a diagonal strikethrough in a different colour, and needs a line style which allows a full line or a dotted line version . See screenshot

    2. Millions of uses a day. For a lot of indesign brochure designers.
