Fix for this issue is available in the latest InDesign version - InDesign 2023. The fix should solve most of the issues that were seen earlier.

A new option "Honor Text Indents in addition to Text Wrap" is introduced in Preferences > Composition dialog. It is turned ON by default for new documents created in ID2023. For documents created in previous InDesign versions, this option is turned off by default - which can be turned ON to see the improved behavior.

Please let us know how the fix is working for you.

    Hi Javed,

regarding you Question "…a user should be able to apply as an override using the Paragraph Panel as well or should this option be available only as part of a Paragraph Style."

Regarding all other functions in InDesign, this feature should be available in Paragraph Style + Paragraph Panel. Otherwise users would be confused.

    Hi Abhinav,

the main problem for most users is indeed the by default activated checkbox "Add to CC Library".
Yes you can deactivate it, with no document open. But you need to have so much things in mind, this is one more and it slows down much workflows.
As i have to reset my indesign quite often, i always need to do this.

I don't have numbers, but ai assume most InDesign users don't use the CC Libraries for there documents, especially at the beginning of the design process. You experiment with colors, fonts, etc. – and for each action the Libraries panel pos ups, with is not in the sense of an design workflow.

If you ask me, and most users i know, the checkbox for adding things to CC should be deactivated by default, an option in the settings of InDesign should be available to change this.

    Best, Klaas

Need More Info  ·  Anonymous responded

Thanks for making this request. In order to understand the use-case more better I have a few questions:

    1. Whats the role of the different people working collaboratively on the same file. Are they always only designers or are other personas also involved.
    2. What is the use-case here, some parts of this request suggest an Editorial collaboration whereas others suggest collaboration amongst different designers. I am trying to separate these 2 requests out.
    3. What are the different kind of files (brochures, books, magazines etc) for which this is required.
    4. Does it need to be a web based service, or having the user be able to collaborate on one shared file using InDesign or InCopy on the Desktop will work? What is the advantage you feel over a web-service over the desktop app?
    5. How do you workaround this need today? What are the most important problems with…

    Hi Javed,

regarding your questions here my feedback:

    1. Different cases are possible. Designers are on group of users, editors (text & picture), translators, reviewers, too.
    2. both can be possible
    3. In my eyes mostly bigger once, like the things you mentioned. But smaller once, like flyer can occur, too.
    4. Wether is is web based or file based is a question of use cases. Designers with InDesign don't need a web based service in first place. Web based services are much more interesting for editors, e.g. that create texts for more channels, than print.
    5. Its differs from the use case. Problems today: Only one person can work at an indesign file at a time. Editors need InCopy, that require at least some kind of introduction. Today editors often use word or collaborative tool, like GoogleDocs – for that there is no good way of integration without plugins or any mechanism for updated content.

I understand the confusion and apologise for the same. Before we could get out the issues in a release we posted the workaround plugins for any users who were blocked due to the bugs.

We have now send out an update to all InDesign users which has those bug fixes in them. Again sorry for the inconvenience.

    Regards
    Javed

Indeed that is a huge problem. Most users have no knowledge about such Fixes, which causes huge pain.

In my opinion this behavior is intended. Some people just want to habe the same filename on each export. But other not, as many here.

There is a solution already. If you are german speaking, here ist a tutorial: https://youtu.be/tq6Ks4JW5d8

Short in word: Don´t change the export name manually, then it will always be the filename. If you accidentally changed it once:
    – export an IDML,
    – reopen,
    – save
Now the export name will be the filename again.
