1. Typographer's Quotes bug?

   I've encountered an issue with Typographer's Quotes not working. I've searched extensively online and tried all the usual suspects (Typographer's Quotes is on in preferences, both Document and without any documents open; reset preferences) but I've been unable to fix them.

   After further investigation, it seems that the issue only occurs using a single typeface (Skolar Latin, installed as OTF versions in Windows 10 Pro itself, rather than via Typekit). When typing double or single quote marks in InDesign with any weight of this typeface, then the straight version is inserted, irrespective of the Typographer's Quotes setting. If I do a search for the relevant double or single quote marks and replace them with the same (as this used to fix the issue on the Mac) it replaces them with the straight version, again, irrespective of the Typographer's Quotes setting. However, if I use any other typeface, the issue doesn't occur - all quotes are inserted with the correct Typographer's version.

   I've also conducted some other investigation and, basically, narrowed it down to being an issue (bug?) with InDesign CC 2018 (version 13.1 x64) on Windows 10 Pro (version 1803, OS build 17134.165; Dell XPS 8930 / i7-8700 / 16GB RAM / GTX-1060 6GB). I've arrived at this conclusion due to the following reasons:

   Typographer's Quotes work fine in Illustrator CC 2018 / Photoshop CC 2018 / Microsoft Word on the same PC - hence not an issue with the OTF files, or anything relating to the font files themselves.

   The issue doesn't occur when opening the same file in the Mac version of InDesign CC 2018 - hence not an issue specifically relating to the document file, InDesign preferences, or and Paragraph / Character Styles, or OTF files (as all are the same as on the PC).

   The issue is reproducible in different InDesign documents on the same PC.

3. Error in cursor position when dragging items

   Hello, InDesign is not letting me move objects (or any items at all) correctly. As soon as I click and drag anything, the position drasticaly changes to about 50px upper-right. Beyond annoying, this is getting in the way of my work. Besides moving objects on the page, I can't drag and drop between layers, or reorder pages easily. It does not happen when selecting text or dragging to create new objects.

   Anyone know how to correct this? It started last week, out of the blue. I have read some similar issues on the forum, from Mac users, but I'm running on Windows 11, INDD version 19.5 x64. Have already restored the preferences, will try reinstalling the program.

4. main artboard disappears when plugging in or unplug display (GPU Viewing Problem)

   I work with switching setups on my macbook, sometimes without an external screen, sometimes i move to my home office and plug in a bigger display.

   When indesign is opened and a file is opened, you cant do that without having to save and reopen the document. Because whenever you attach or detach a display - the main artboard / window with pages turns completely grey / invisble and you cant see anything anymore, but you can hover the elements.

   Switching to "Overprint Preview" brings back the visibility, switching it off makes the pages invisible again. Same with "Preview on CPU".
   So this seems to be a problem with the GPU Viewing.

   I use InDesign 20.4.1 but i have this happen since 1-2 years now. Before there was never a problem when switching displays / setups....

5. export, printing

   I am unable to export or print a document through InDesign 2023. I have no errors in the document, but whenever I try to export the document (which is 113 pages long and has quite a number of images throughout), it just says "Failed to Export PDF File", but gives no reason for why this happened. I do get a pop-up window before the one that says the document failed to export and the pop-up says that some links for either files or hyperlinks are not accessible. I have removed all hyperlinks and all the images are linked properly. Also, when I try to print the document, it says "Printing Error: The Adobe Print Engine has failed to output your data due to an unknown problem."
   What other issues are occurring that is preventing the files from being exported as a PDF?

6. InDesign 2025 (v20.3.1) freezes when interacting with modal dialog panels on macOS 15.5 (Sequoia)

   Hi Adobe team,

   I’m experiencing repeated, non-reproducible hangs in InDesign 2025 (v20.3.1) when interacting with certain modal dialog panels — such as Panel Options, Color Panel settings, and similar. This occurs on macOS 15.5 (Sequoia). After clicking inside one of these dialogs, InDesign sporadically becomes unresponsive (beachball), requiring a force quit via “Force Quit Applications.”

   The issue existed before a complete clean install of macOS and continues to occur even after the fresh system setup with no migration or prior settings carried over.

   Here are the key system details:
   • macOS version: 15.5 (24F74) – Developer Beta (Sequoia)
   • Mac model: MacBook Pro 16” M1 Max, 64 GB RAM
   • Displays: Dual Apple Studio Displays
   • InDesign version: 20.3.1 (latest Creative Cloud release as of June 2025)

   Attached is a .hang report from macOS, which shows the InDesign main thread stalling in:
   UI::ModalDialogManager::RunModalLoop()
   BscModalDialog::DoModal()
   ControlPanel::ShowOptionsDialog()

   Other threads remain idle, indicating a UI-level deadlock — likely caused by a modal dialog waiting on OS-level window interaction that never completes.

   This seems related to changes in macOS 15’s window or dialog behavior, potentially affecting how InDesign renders or processes modal components.

   I understand Sequoia is still in beta, but since the issue exists in InDesign’s current public release (20.3.1) and is severe enough to disrupt daily work, I wanted to report it early.

7. Right-to-left paragraph orientation causes problems

   Hello and thanks in advance to the respondents.
   For several months now I have been suffering from a very annoying problem in InDesign and I have not been able to find a solution.
   When I set the writing direction from right to left (using the edit menu - right to left), the arrow keys on the right and left keyboard stop responding as they should, and instead of each click the cursor moves one character to the right or left, clicking on them jumps the cursor to the beginning or end of the line.
   The problem only exists when I select the "Visual" option in the above menu.
   Of course, in my Adobe Creative settings, English is set to support Hebrew, and I also noticed that I am opening a text window of the Middle East type, and in the paragraph settings itself, the direction is set from right to left.

   I have issues with basic tasks in InDesign. I ordered a new MacBook Pro 16, M11 Pro, 16GB Ram, 1TB SSD
   And just scrolling around in InDesign gave me the rolling spin.

   After updating to the newest indd Version and newest MacOs Version it did get better with small files, and moving a textbox worked finally.
   But working with a bigger magazine file with 50 pages is not doable.

   I ordered a second m1 pro (same config) as thinking it might be a Hardware Issue. Same result.
   I made a clean wipe of MacOs, only installed CC and Indd (and OneDrive for the files) and still same issue.

   Turning GPU OFF or ON did not change a thing.

   My old intel Windows with 6700HQ and 20GB Ram is working better in the same file.

   Btw. Photoshop worked perfectly fine and is waaay faster as the Win Laptop, as it is supposed to be.

9. InDesign 14.1

   Opening InDesign just by itself makes it freeze completely. Ball of death (on Mac) .
   It asks me if I want to start automatic recovery however I can't click on any of the options because the ball of death doesn't let me. The window with the recovery message consequently shows up on top of any other screen.

   I could make InDesign work ONCE yesterday after restarting and today it completely crashes again. Unfortunately it also means one of my files is now stuck 'open' which is untimely.
   This is the latest verstion both of InDesign as well as Mac OS.

   Aaand while at it my Adobe Creative Cloud is being an absolute nightmare logging me out a lot and when I enter my log in details and confirm it thinks about it and says - you have been logged out. Takes me several attempts to make it work.

   Any help would be appreciated.

   To identify the cause of this issue, we had started our investigation with the aim to resolve it. You might have also received email from us seeking more details to help in our investigation.

   We’ve concluded our investigation and came up with the finding : Either the issue is fixed in the latest release of InDesign or the issue was intermittent in nature at the time of its reporting and is not reproducible now.

   We recommend you to upgrade to the latest version of InDesign 2020.0.1 (if you’re not already on it). It contains a lot of stability fixes.

10. Workfront Integration

    I'm having an impossible time exporting PDFs from InDesign and uploading directly to Workfront using the Adobe Workfront Plug-in. No matter what settings I use, when I export directly to WF, the PDF is corrupt (images/text drops out, text frames duplicate on top of each other, etc.)...but when I export a PDF to a local folder, then upload that existing PDF using the WF Plug-in, the PDF is fine. See the examples below - the item on the left is the PDF output directly to WF, and the item on the right is output using the exact same settings, output to the desktop, then uploaded as a new proof version using the plug-in:

    Workfront Support says it's an InDesign export issue, not a plug-in issue because we recently had a couple of files drop out images and text from print-ready PDFs. I question that response because those were isolated to a single user's files and used standard vendor presets that we have never had problems with before. In my testing, I have tried exporting different files from our server and from my local drive, I have tried all the default PDF export presets as well as custom presets, and in every case the PDF exported from the WF plug-in is more than 50% corrupt.  Of course, we could export to folders and use the plug-in just to upload the PDFs but we do that already (create the PDFs and upload to WF) - the whole point of the plug-in is to streamline that process, but we can't do that unless the PDFs are clean, and they're not when we export/upload via the plug-in. I've also attached the PDFs - the "TEST" pdf is the one created straight from InDesign, then uploaded via the plug-in, the other is the pdf generated by the plug-in. I really appreciate any help I can get with this.

    I'm using InDesign 16.4 and MacOS 11.6

11. Share for Review, Review links in

    The Review feature is incredibly buggy. When I open up my .indd to edit from the clients edits, I have the REVIEW window open on the right as I edit on the left. 1. the minute I delete within the highlighted area, the comment/edit immediately zooms away. This is so frustrating. Spelling errors cannot be corrected if the yellow highlight is on...you have to choose a letter replacement from a dropdown. So bizarre. And this is the MOST irritating...Why can't I just see a list of Unresolved comments with NOTHING ELSE? The screen is constantly over-populated with vintage comments that were resolved days ago. Filters do not work. If I click filter by RESOLVED for a moment just the un-resolved ones will float to the top. But it doesn't stick. I have to scroll around to figure out where I was on the list of edits and there' no reason to it. The workflow is incredibly frustrating.

12. European characters recognized as Kanjis in composite fonts

    I'm editing a Chinese document containing certain European characters such as ē and í.
    I've created a composite font that uses Roboto for numbers and latin alphabets, and Noto Sans CJK for the Chinese characters.

    Recently I noticed some of the European characters are incorrectly recognized as Kanjis, and are set to Noto Sans CJK instead of Roboto.

    By testing my composite font settings, I confirmed that these misbehaving characters are being recognized as Kanjis (the top row in the composite font window).

    1. InDesign version: 17.3
    2. Create a composite font as shown in Screen Shot 1
    3. I expect all European characters to also be recognized as Latin alphabets
    4. Some of the European characters are recognized as Kanjis, as can be seen in Screen Shot 2. The difference is subtle, to compare, I placed two ē side by side, and manually set the left one to Roboto and the right one to the composite font, see Screen Shot 3.

13. Windows 10 PC. VBA for Excel and the InDesign CC2017 library are not functioning.

    I have a serious problem. I have a new Acer PC Windows 10. I am using Office 365 Excel VBA to control InDesign CC2017. The InDesign CC2107 Type Library is not functioning with the VBA. I have been using this setup since CS3 to automate InDesign actions and provide solutions for automating print production.

    I am trying to start a $4000 project using these same InDesign capabilities but am unable to get anywhere. I am most disappointed and upset at this occurrance and am seeking some assistance from Adobe. Attached is the software code that I am trying to implement. Also attached is a large source code file that worked well and demonstrates what can be accomplished with your products. This is a serious concern for me. This is how I make my living. 14. Can't import RAW fiels anymore

    Usually I drag and drop from Lr to Id and it works well. From jpeg, dng, tiff, psd, raw files (CR2 Canon). But today it is not working.

15. Wheel of death when placing images

    Lately, the spinning wheel has been appearing, especially when I place a photo via drag-and-drop, but also when I use the "Place" command from the menu. When the spinning wheel appears (and stays there), I can close or save the document, but the undo/redo functions no longer work, other functions work limited. After closing all documents, I have to force-quit the application; otherwise, InDesign won’t close. When I reopen it, sometimes it loads previously closed documents with recovery, even though I closed them myself. The "CPU Preview / Preflight Off" mode doesn’t work. I work with local documents (I don’t use CC Libraries, etc.).
    Windows 11 - InDesign 21.3.x64; this issue has been present since v21.0
    GeForce 4070TI GPU (up-to-date Studio Drivers), Intel motherboard platform.

16. Some glyphs in ai files appear as other glyphs in PDFs (created from InDesign)

    The ohm sign Ω - U+02126 is placed several times in an InDesign document:
    2x in an Illustrator graphic
    1x in another Illustrator graphic created additionally for test purposes
    1x placed directly in InDesign

    If a PDF is created from the InDesign document, only the Ohm characters present in both Illustrator graphics are written to the PDF as different Unicode characters - and also as different other Unicode characters: U+0001F and U+00016.

    The problem was noticed by checking the PDF with 'PDF Accessibility Checker' from axes4: The error ‘Text object with characters without Unicode mapping’ is reported for the Ohm characters in the Illustrator graphics.

    The PAC error is not reported for the Ohm character set directly in the InDesign document. But: the glyph Ω - U+02126 set in the InDesign document was replaced by the glyph Ω - U+003A9 during PDF export.

17. Reveal in finder not working

    Reveal in finder not working when right clicking tab at the top of open document. Clicking "reveal in finder" brings all open finder windows to front, but does not reveal the correct file location, nor any files if no existing windows are open.

18. ID can't import multiple PDF (with multiple pages) into frames placed in master

    InDesign 14.0.2 french
    Windows 10 x64 Pro 1903 - 18362.239

    I need to import 148 PDF with 5 pages into each files.
    I prepare 5 frames into the A-master.
    CTRL+D from the 1st page to select my files.
    For the demo, I use 3 files.

    Only the second PDF is imported.
    All other PDF are visible in Links panel, but with no pages imported.

    If I do an the same import without frames on the A-master, I am able to place 5 pages per ID page. But it's longer, without the same scale, etc.

    I've just test under 13.1.1: the bug is already there :-(
    Thanks to my users not to tell me...

    I also tried to do the same by duplicating my page with no frames on A-master but on the page itself: same result, only the second PDF is imported.

    If I choose 2 pages on each PDF, I got 2 PDF on 3. Better, but not enough (frames on page or A-master).

    Last test: import without advance options, so only 1st page is imported.
    It worked: I got the 3 first pages imported...

    For several months now, when I place a .docx document in inDesign, it can happen that a character is misinterpreted by inDesign.
    It's as if it's invisible for the layout, but it actually cuts the word in half for spelling correction, for example.
    When I copy it to search for it with inDesign with or without GREP, it does paste something (a lowercase L or an uppercase i preceded by a ^ in normal or ~ in GREP) but it doesn't find it.
    When displaying hidden characters it appears as two vertical red dots (see my photo).
    Sometimes it also appears at the very beginning of a sentence.

    Depuis plusieurs mois, lorsque je place un document .docx dans inDesign, il peut arriver qu’un caractère soit comme mal interprété par inDesign.
    Il est comme invisible pour la mise en page, mais il coupe en fait le mot en deux pour la correction orthographique par exemple.
    Lorsque je le copie pour le rechercher avec inDesign avec ou sans GREP, il colle bien quelque chose (un L minuscule ou un i majuscule précédé d’un ^ en normal ou ~ en GREP) mais il ne le trouve pas.

20. Problem mit Schlagschatten unter 15.0 x64 (Windows)

    Wenn einem Objekt ein Schlagschatten zugewiesen wird, so verschiebt sich der Schatten, sobald man auf OK klickt. Das heißt, der Schlagschatten hat dem optischen Eindruck nach andere Werte, als die zugewiesenen.
    Beispiel: Ein einzelnes PSD mit mehreren freigestellten Objekten vor transparentem Hintergrund erhält folgende Werte:
    Deckkraft 100% / Abstand 3 mm / x-Versatz 0 / y-Versatz 3 mm / Winkel 90° / Größe 5 mm / Übergriff 50% / Rauschen 0
    Als Ergebnis zeigen einige Objekte einen 90" nach untern fallenden Schatten. Bei den restlichen Objekten ist der Schatten nach unten und links verschoben.
    Dieses Problem ist neu, es ist bisher nicht aufgetreten.
