  1. Bug Report: “Find/Change” Story Option Not Appearing

    Hi Adobe Support Team,

I would like to report a bug in Adobe InDesign. When using the Find/Change command, even though I select Story in the selection area, the Story option does not appear in the Find section.

Currently, the only workaround I’ve found is to close and reopen InDesign, but the issue recurs every time. I can provide a screenshot to illustrate the problem if needed.

Please let me know how I can assist in resolving this issue.

    Thank you.

  3. Edit with other - doesn't see Photoshop as an application

I use the Indesign feature on the links menu to Edit With, either using the default application or another. We just updated to the latest CC (ps, il, in) and the other application isn't the same. For any jpg or pdf, it shows Photoshop or illustrator or Acrobat as available to open the image selected. However, if I select an ai. file, it shows Illustrator as the default, and Preview as another option - no Photoshop. I select Other to add Photoshop, go to the applications folders, click on Photoshop and it's only seeing it as a folder, not as…

  5. Anchored Textframes with Auto adjusting height within a Textfreame

    1. CC 2018 – 13.1 (Can't update to CC 2019 right now because of Plugins)
    2. Create a big "master" Text frame
    3. Create 2 more text frames that auto adjust in height and fill them with lorem ipsum or any text.
    4. Paste those two text frames into the first created "master" Text frame
    5. Change the Text in the first Text frame (Add some empty lines or remove text) and see InDesign fail to update.
    6. Expected result: Should be pretty obvious... InDesign should not fail to update the current view.
    7. Actual Result: All Textframes are misaligned because InDesign does not update correctly – If…

  7. Lists ignore alignment when story is subject to object wrapping

    InDesign v20.1.

    Steps to reproduce:
    1. In a blank document, create a new story. Add a few blank lines, then a new paragraph with list settings (either bullets or numbers). Align it to center or right.
    2. Create an ellipsis and set its wrapping options to contour wrapping.
    3. Move the ellipsis so that it intersects the story above the actual list (the list doesn't have to be in range of the wrapping countour).

    Expected result:
Nothing should happen to the list, since it's far from the wrapping area.

    Actual result:
The numbers/bullets get aligned the left, no matter what…

  10. Footnotes display spanning columns correctly, don't print across both columns

First time I've had to use the footnote options in InDesign. I have several pages with footnotes which occur at the bottom of each page in each associated text block. Span across columns is checked in both the Footnote Style I created, as well as in the Layout options. The footnotes display correctly on screen as intended. (See second screenshot)

When I print spreads from InDesign to an Epson P5000, the footnotes only print the text that is under the lefthand column. All of the footnote text on the right disappears. (See first screenshot)

    Exporting the pages to a…

  11. No Font Spacing Between Words in InDesign 2019 14.0.x-2 on Mojave 10.14.x-4, Works fine in InDesign 2014 (v10.0.70) on Yosemite (10.10.5)

    Posted it here too: https://forums.adobe.com/message/11049072#11049072

So, we've had this issue on our new MacBook Pro running macOS Mojave v10.14.4 ever since last year in August when we were on High Sierra (what came with the Mac).

Basically, InDesign is unusable with Gujarati Sangam MN on the 2019 version but on 2014 (v10.0.0.70) version on my old Mac (OS X Yosemite, v10.10.5) it works fine.

    What's causing this issue?

    We've tried the following:

    • Contacted Adobe & Apple support: Apple said to contact Adobe, Adobe was unhelpful, they suggested we look up if the font was installed it it is on the…

  12. buggy footnote placement

Footnotes are randomly placed in the middle of the text stream, rather than the bottom of the page. I've seen it happen a couple times, but I don't know why it happens. Other footnotes are placed in the correct position.

In Document Footnote Options, Place end of Story Footnotes at Bottom of Text is UNchecked. However, I get the same result if it IS checked.

The worst part is that there is NO way to correct this!

I tried to upload the INDD files, and a PNG screen shot, but in both cases, it produced an error, "Files are…

  13. Option to change the color of bitmap fonts

We need a way to change the color for white/grayscale bitmap fonts.

We often use Bitmap fonts for the better texture we can get from them; however, not having the option to change the color of the font, means we have to change the color within photoshop, then either export separate images or entire fonts for each color we use. This is rather inefficient and slows down our process. Having the ability change the color of a white or grayscale bitmap font would be very useful.

  14. Outer Edge Bleed Option for Facing Pages

    Description:
InDesign currently applies identical bleed settings to all four edges of each page, even in facing-page layouts.
For publications such as magazines, catalogs, and books, the inner (spine) edge bleed between facing pages is unnecessary and can cause issues in visualization, export, and imposition.

    Feature Request:
Add an option in the Document Setup and Export Settings to enable Outer Edge Bleed mode.

In this mode, bleed is applied only to the top, bottom, and outer edges of each spread.
The inner edge between facing pages would have no bleed, resulting in a cleaner, more accurate PDF output that reflects…

  15. Strange Whitespace areas

I am using CC2019 and the have the same issue in CC2020. I have mysterious areas of whitespace that I can't use appearing on my pages. Please see the attached file. The file is part of a book. Page 110 (relative to book's start, the third spread in the file) is where the trouble starts.

I don't mean to be a nuisance but sorting this out is rather urgent. I am going to destroy the document and start again out of desperation.

    Kind regards
    Mike Howell

  16. place file missing

I'm making a booklet identifying all 200 products for a client. I had been attempting to import 3-7 pdfs using the place function at a time. Show Import Options is on. Often one or two files will appear in the links list as if they were coming in with the others, but do not come up in the placing. They are in the links panel with no page number and no pasteboard indication. If I go back and place an item that has done this individually it will work. If I wasn't checking in each place that the "image file…

  17. Dialog open to custom location on click of place option in indesign

Click on place option in indesign.

Dialog should open with custom location set from the script, not the previous opened location.

Is there a way to control place dialog, to always show my custom location??

  18. Table Of Contents Page Number Before Entry and Alphabetical Listing

I'm on InDesign 17.3 on an Intel iMac Pro (2017) running macOS 12.4 (Monterey), though I have the same problem on my new M1 MacBook Pro (same OS). No matter what I do, no matter what preferences I reset or cache I clear, I can't generate a table of contents with the page numbers before the listing, or generate a table of contents in alphabetical order instead of page order. I know it worked at one point, because I painstakingly created a paragraph style with nested styles to automatically generate my table of contents for the monthly magazine I make.…

  19. Page numbering is broken

Since the latest update (InDesign 15.1.2) you can no longer change the page numbering to roman numerals or a, b, c etc. When you make a new section and change the style of numbering system - nothing changes. You can also not make a page have a new number - for example change page 10 to page 20, it will remain as page 10. These are very important features of InDesign and need to be fixed as soon as possible.

    Step 1 - Menu - Layout - Number & section options
    Step 2 - Change page 1 to style 'i,…

  20. URGENT: Add an "Empty Output" Option for Text Variables

Currently, InDesign text variables (e.g., Running Headers) always display the last non-empty value when the source is empty. While this behavior can be useful in some workflows, it causes major problems in others. In publishing and educational workflows, having an “empty” variable output display the previous value is unacceptable.

We urgently need a way to explicitly tell InDesign: “If the source is empty, display nothing (truly empty).”

    Proposed Solutions:
    - Introduce a new special character (e.g., “Null Variable Marker”) that, when placed in the source text, forces the variable to render as empty.
    - Alternatively, provide an option in the…
