Weird replacement issue with small caps and breaks
When text is set in small caps, the German ß ligature gets replaced by ss. When that replacement then is at the end of a line and the word needs to break and wrap around, InDesign creates missing glyphs.
This is not an issue with the font and it is not a general issue, because Illustrator doesn't do it. It happens with true small caps and with fake ones.4 votes -
Edit Hyperlink allows pasting newlines
The hyperlink editor only supports single line editing, but if you paste a URL with a preceding lewline character, the editor keeps the new line. This makes the error non-obvious to the user. It is also impossible to remove the newline in the editor because it is a single-line editor, so it does not recognize that the newline is there. Since newlines are not allowed in URLs and in fact break them, my suggestion is to strip newline characters from URLs when pasted.

Color tags for pages in the Pages palette do not shift when page order changes automatically
Color tags for pages in the Pages palette do not shift when the page order is changed due to changes in the text flow. Changes in text flow can add or remove a page automatically. A certain headline, for instance, then can move from page 19 to page 20. I wanted to tag the page that holds this headline. When text flow adds a page, the headline is moved from page 19 to page 20, but the color tag is still shown for page 19. It is not “linked” to the page content.
This behavior is different from adding or…1 vote -
Footnotes won't number sequentially; cannot select multiple or all footnotes
When I place a Word document with footnotes into InDesign, the footnote paragraphs become separated from each other. I cannot click and drag to highlight text from more than one footnote, and I cannot use Command>A to select all the footnotes. Command>A only highlights all the text from the single selected footnote. Furthermore, the numbered paragraph style applied to the footnote paragraphs won't recognize that there was a previous paragraph flowing to it, so each paragraph is numbered as number 1. Even though "continue from previous" is selected in the numbering options. Also, the numbering style from Word imports as…

ID 2023 and 2024 issues with variable weight fonts
In addition to the odd weight mix on screen display or the incorrect spacing for bolder faces on variable fonts in 2024, variable fonts do not outline correctly. The outlined objects do not create compound paths correctly for character elements that join (example: bottom bar of lower case e crosses over onto spine of letter) causing effect and trap errors.
UPDATE: 19.1 update installed. The font weight issue appears to be fixed, but the font outlines are still an issue, as I reported to Adobe in the bug reports. The characters when outlines do create compound paths, they create overlapping…

[ID-4236204]Using “Paragraph Borders and Shading” on frame grid, it is incorrect to base them on grid attributes possessed by the frame grid
InDesign Version CC2018 or newer
“Paragraph Borders and Shading” are usually generated based on the outline of the glyphs in the paragraph to which they are applied.
This is true even if they are grid-aligned on a text frame (Figure 1-a, right).
However, when the same settings are made on a frame grid, for some reason, they are generated based on the grid attributes of the frame grid, not the glyph outlines.
This always occurs based on the grid attribute of the frame grid, regardless of whether the text in the frame grid is grid-aligned or not (Figure 1-a left).…

glitch
My indseign starts glitching as soon as I move a picture or make a frame. It goes half black or fully purple and blue. Its impossible for me to figure out how to fix it. I've tried restarting the app. But that doesn't matter. I don't have any problems with the other apps.1 vote -

dual monitors - UI stays the size of the small monitor even when I drag it back to the large HD monitor
Windows 10
Monitor 1 is my Huion display tablet 16”
Monitor 2 is main 32" Samsung monitorIf I open InDesign with "extend these displays" checked in the windows display settings and then drag the program back to Monitor 2 (32" Samsung) - the work area is smaller and I cannot drag it to fill the screen. Also the text for all dialog boxes is too small and the program will not release from the settings of the Huion tablet.
I need to be able to have InDesign behave like Photoshop - which opens up with the same scaling and…

M1 Mac Graphic Problems Continue
As others have mentioned InDesign graphic performance on M1 Macs is unacceptable. This was marked as "fixed" but it continues with macOS Ventura 13.0.1 and InDesign 18. For example, the screen does not always redraw when scrolling or jumping to a different page until you move your pointer. Switching to a different program and then back to InDesign also fixes the problem for a while. It doesn't matter whether GPU Performance is on or off. This is the most fundamental functionality. Please figure it out and fix it once and for all.
18 votesID18.1 that was released yesterday should have the fix for this issue.
Please update to this version from CCD app & confirm if the issue is still happening.

Imported PDF comments listed in the wrong order
- InDesign 19.0
 - Mark up an InDesign-exported PDF using Acrobat. The page should be text-heavy and have multiple, tedious changes indicated. Import the marked-up PDF into the source InDesign document's layout. Display the PDF and InDesign layout side-by-side on your screen.
 - The comments should be listed in the same order in Acrobat and InDesign.
 - The comments are listed in the correct order in Acrobat, but are in a completely random order in InDesign.
 - See attached screen shot.

PDF comments invariably appear in the wrong order in the list compared to their counterparts in Acrobat. The Acrobat list makes sense as comments…

IDML export = master page items shift
When a file is exported as IDML, master/parent page items have shifted. Happens most consistently on pages that are “based on” other pages. This happens whether an object style with positioning has been used or not, but is generally worse when positioning has been defined.
This has been a persistent issue through the past several versions of ID.
