Book / Index
Indesign 2020 15.0, Indesign CC 2019 14.0.3, Indesign CC 2018:
Crash when generating the index in a book with many chapters.
The book has 156 chapters (from 1 page to 30 pages) - when updating the index reproducible crash.
The book has 822 pages.Every time I sent an error report - no reaction. I think it depends on the number of documents.
1 voteHi,
Please can you share the sample document with which the crash can be reproduced? Thanks

Loss of typographic enrichment (italic, bold, etc.) on import .docx files
On CC2019 14.0.3 but also on previous versions.
When I import a Miscrosoft Word text I sometimes lose part of the enrichment. On the attached example the majority of Bold are kept but some are gone. This is very problematic when working on documents of several hundred pages.
The problem occurs with .docx files but not with .doc files.2 votes -
Output intent broken in 2020
Seems that Indesign 2020 shouldn't have been released since one of the most important things is broken.
We tell our customers to use PDF/X4 to export pdf's so that we get a correct output intent profile in the pdf.
The problem is that it doesn't seem to matter what color settings I have, the output intent is always set to US Web Coated in the Output tab of the export window. So now everyone has to change the output profile manually in the output tab to the color profile setup in color settings. This is really bad and alot of…1 voteIt looks like the Synchronize Color Settings in Bridge was not syncing the color settings in InDesign. Changing the settings once again in Bridge sorted out the issue of synchronization.
Based on this information, closing the thread.
Thank you Anders for prompt back & forth communication and help in troubleshooting the glitch.—

InDesign performance is ****
The actual performance of InDesign is, speaking gently, ****. I really don't know how you can release such a buggy version. I'm doing nothing on my machine except writing this text and InDesign is using more than 500 % of my CPU and the fan of my graphic card is going nuts!
Calling the actual version "production ready" is a joke. I am really disappointed about Adobe. The only program actually which is really good and performing is XD.

2 votesTo identify the cause of this issue, we had started our investigation with the aim to resolve it. You might have also received email from us seeking more details to help in our investigation.
We’ve concluded our investigation and came up with the finding : Either the issue is fixed in the latest release of InDesign or the issue was intermittent in nature at the time of its reporting and is not reproducible now.
We recommend you to upgrade to the latest version of InDesign 2020 (if you’re not already on it). It contains a lot of stability fixes.
If you still face this issue even after updating to the latest version of InDesign, please submit the crash report to us. (The guidelines to submit crash are available at (https://helpx.adobe.com/indesign/kb/submit-crash-reports.html)

Cross-references in a table breaks when moving table-cell.
When moving a table-cell that contains a cross-reference, it breaks and becomes a ”red flag”. What happens is that a text-anchor gets a "1" added to its name. A paragraph anchor just breaks.

InDesign won't find fonts in file package if the file is in a Dropbox folder
Version: InDesign 14.0.3 macOS Catalina
Steps: 1. Package a file and include fonts
2. Move the package anywhere in the local Dropbox folder
3. Make sure fonts are not locally activated/present
4. Open file
Expected result: InDesign opens fonts in the "Document fonts" folder
Actual result: InDesign reports fonts as missing
[Same package moved to Desktop, everything works fine]2 votes -
shared destination hyperlinks do not get inserted into exported epub 3 (InDesign CC 2020 v15.0)
I have a document with many shared destination hyperlinks. When I go to export this document out to an epub 3 file, non of the shared destination hyperlinks are inserted into the epub file. This is a huge problem.
1 voteHi,
Can you please share a sample file with which the issue is reproducible at amaarora@adobe.com?I tried with some custom files but was unable to see the issue (checked on Sigil epub viewer)

Multipage PDF Export failure -Backgrond task running constantly
PDF export constantly runs as background task with zero percent progress until I force quit InDesign, delete the temp recovery file, and delete the "zero bytes" PDF that InDesign failed to genereate. If I leave it and reexport once running InDesign again it happens again. I've found it takes deleting the recovery file (.idlk) and the PDF that has zero data at the location I tried exporting to. Once I do that it seems to work. My InDesign file is multiple pages (32). Smaller page counts and data files seem to work although my InDesign file isn't that large. Once…

flash 2020
With Flash ending in 2020. What is going to happen to the feature to export an interactive workbook?
I have tested and exported as an HTML but the site still asked me to use Flash. The look and interactive abilities where not there. It was a grey screen.
What is an alternative way to export an InDesign file to have the same abilities of an interactive workbook? (same look and interactive buttons)

InDesign Crashing when inserting footnote or carriage return
Running Mac OS Mojave 10.14.6 and inDesign CC 2019.
I have used InDesign since it replaced PageMaker, and PageMaker for a decade before that. It almost never misbehaves ... so I am grieved to report that I just crashed InDesign three times in a row.
I am editing an existing 20-page, single-column document. The first two times I tried to insert a footnote, InDesign crashed dramatically -- the windows disappeared and the program icon in my Dock no longer showed the dot indicating an open application. The third time I inserted a carriage return and InDesign crashed the same way.

Email Hyperlinks Not Responding in Published Online File
I have a document that contains some email hyperlinks throughout it. I set up the hyperlinks with the link to "email" option, and then the address as the destination. Creating a "mailto:xyz@xyz.com" link.
After publishing online, when the links are clicked on, it takes the page to a "could not connect" page and does not respond correctly. BUT all email links work completely fine when copied and pasted, right click and opened up in a new tab, when clicking directly from an exported PDF, when clicking from the downloaded PDF from the published online document, etc. It's only…

indesign canvas can not be 6500mm in CC
can not create a canvas with 6500mm, it reverts back to 5486.4 mm
As an industry standard software, you would expect that there is no limitations to the canvas size.

Lag due to "corrupt links"
Case Number: ADB-10686986-C0K0
Issue: Performance
The file I am working on is part of a network located book which included 15 separate indesign documents and links to many images. Working on the file last week everything was fine, however this week when I type even a single character there is a tremendous lag (30 seconds to 2 minutes). This has affected every file in the book that I have opened this week so far.
The adobe tech had me create a new file and "move" all the pages to that file. This resolved the lag however it also broke the…1 vote
