Outlining text removes underlines (line above and below)
When supplying PDFs to printers they often/always require all text to be outlined. If you put an underline on any text and than go 'Type > Create Outlines', only the text becomes outlined and it completely removes any underline (line above and below that I've setup in paragraph styles). Expected results: To have the text outlined and retain the line above/below.

Checkbox (general) option: Always use Indesign filename when exporting
Please add a tickbox in Indesign's general preferences (file handeling?) or as a option when exporting to PDF to "Always use current indesign filename". Our PDF exports always need to be identical to the Indesign file name since we handle specific coded. As of now it sometimes uses a random name for the PDF from an previous version or even from a totally different document I worked with the day before. We have accidentally overwritten PDF files from older documents because of this, causing a lot of confusion and backtracking on what went wrong.

Add features to draft legal briefs
Legal filings are just complicated, cross-linked books.
Lawyers have to follow court rules when typesetting appellate briefs.

You should add a feature to create a Table of Authorities (ToA). The ToA lists each authority cited along with every page on which it is cited. The ToA has different sections for different kinds of authorities, e.g., cases, statutes, etc.
The best way would be to have InDesign identify authorities/citations. Most lawyers follow the Bluebook. https://www.legalbluebook.com/default.aspx

Text engine compatibility with Illustrator and Photoshop
Ability to copy Illustrator and Photoshop graphics to InDesign so that the text remains editable, in other words does not convert to shapes/paths.

Create index subentry structures with a drag-and-drop feature in the index window
It would be very useful if InDesign could convert the mouse pointer into a hand pointer when hovering over the index entries displayed in the index window so that the user can manually grab and move selected index entries under other entries—and thus create faster subentry structures.

Managing Multiple Sets of Endnotes In a Document AND allowing Endnotes to refer to a separate INDD Document

Here's my first dilemma: I am building a book with several hundred pages. This book will be printed (won't be an eBook/iBook). I'm keeping each chapter as its own document that I will then collect together as a larger Book at the end. The last chapter will be just for all the book's endnotes. In previous versions of InDesign, I would import the Word document, delete the endnotes out of the "Chapter x" document, and pop them back into the "Endnotes chapter" without affecting the superscripts referencing the endnotes throughout the text. Whenever we use Ink Manager to convert spot colors to process colors (1) or define one spot color as alias for another (2), this should be visualized in the Swatches panel so whoever edits the INDD can immediately spot (ha!) that changes have been made and fix them if needed (instead of shedding tears over inexplicable output results).
(1) Replace the spot icon by a “ink-managed” process icon that can be distinguished from the “native” process icon.
(2) Replace the spot icon by the alias icon from the Ink Manager dialog.

Add Javascript for creating interactive Documents
So I had the nice task of creating an interactive PDF document. It needed a bit more logic than Indesign had to offer, so I was forced to use Javascript.
Because Indesign can't add Javascript, the design file and the logic file were separated. I was forced to manually connect the two every time I needed to make a change in Indesign, adding nearly 40 hours to my workload and completely destroying my workflow.
Just being able to add the scripts to the elements would have saved so much time.

Interactive text field options that do not exist in InDesign, but do in Acrobat.
I make a ton of interactive PDFs in InDesign. Why can I not set things like character limits or centered text within InDesign so I can save the settings in the .indd file? Instead, I am forced to make these changes in Acrobat. This means that any changes to the .indd file require that I remake the PDF format changes in Acrobat. EVERY TIME!

Stop requiring a resave of documents in new InDesign versions
I would love it if the Adobe team would figure out a way to have new versions of InDeisgn not require a resave of previously created documents. This is probably THE most annoying feature of using this software. It is not user friendly when you have developed a working method on updating documents month to month, only to be prompted to save the file before any other processes can be performed. I can't tell you how many documents I have "Saved" to my desktop when I thought I was exporting them to PDF. Please fix. Annoying!!

Traditional Book Focus
I write long traditional books with hundreds of black and white text pages. Adobe's focus as a graphics company may be why it misses some important issues for people like me. Editing hundreds of pages of text and incorporating feedback is extremely difficult.
To accomplish this I have to get the full layout correct with many chapters all in individual files and then create a PDF version of the book. of course, when viewed two up the pages don' align properly if I don't insert a blank page as the first page using DC. Simple fix, give me a proofing…

Provide Ability to Print Selection
Where I work, we create printed publications and also design advertisements for these publications. All of our advertisements are designed in a document using a standard InDesign template with a grid. This template is the same size as our publications and is larger than the standard letter size page dimensions that we like to print our proofs. The problem is that in order to print proofs on letter size paper, the ad must always be shrunk because of the larger document template dimensions. Link directly to charts and graph content which can be refreshed by updating the Excel link.

Activate HTTPS and Youtube links
I know, there are many complains about no possibility to use https links for media files, but would be great to add not only them, but Youtube links also.

Chance to see export estimated file size in Indesign
I think it would be great if Indesign provided estimated size information before exporting to PDF or another format. Just like doing JPEG in Photoshop. Don't you think it's a good idea?

InDesign to create powerfull presentations
InDesign should compite with Keynote/powerpoint, or make it easier to export from indesign to those apps.
Animated stuff is actually a need to communicate. Most of us prefer InDesign to create presentations, beacuse you can get a much bigger detail of design, than in powerpoint or keynote.
The point is that the combination of InDesign/PDF give you some limits that can be done in keynote/PP. That is a pain point for me. As a solution,
1. this combination should compite those apps with the same features

Allow placement of PDFs/images by actual page size, not their bounding box.
Enable an option to place or drag-and-drop PDF and image files based on their actual page dimensions (MediaBox or defined size), rather than defaulting to bounding box-based fitting—the following alignment of such is unnecessary hustle. Ideally with user-selectable placement mode (bounding box vs. full page).

Export from InDesign to Adobe Express with frames & keep the frames as frames not as shapes that can't be filled with photos or color.
Export documents containing frames from InDesign to Adobe Express & keep the frames as frames not converting them to shapes that cannot be filled with photos or color.
I'm working on a project with a document created in Adobe InDesign, which may have photos, fill colors, or be blank to fill in Adobe Express. When I export to Adobe Express, the frames convert into elements/shapes, preventing me from placing photos or changing the fill color. This limits my ability to design efficiently and uniformly.
