1. Preflight: option to check document text only (not in linked graphics)

   Hi, I would appreciate to be able to determine whether or not the Preflight profile marks errors found in linked graphic files, rather than in the document itself. (For example, when a linked graphics file uses fonts that are flagged as 'not allowed', it might still be reproduced well while the same error is likely to be important when it occurs in a text included in the .INDD file itself.).
   I'm mainly thinking of text-related errors like invalid or missing fonts. For controlling this, the current TEXT options could just be duplicated into "Document Text" and "Text in linked graphics".

2. Auto recognize type on path with overset text

   When using 'type on path' with multiple paths and you have overset text on one path. When clicking on the red plus so you copied the overset text to past it on the next path but it's not possible because InDesign doesn't automatically apply/recognize 'type on path' like in Illustrator.

   Attached an screenshot what I mean.

3. Add an “Empty Output” Option for Text Variables (Urgent Request)

   Dear Adobe InDesign team,

   As a professional typesetter/designer, I heavily rely on the text variables feature to automate running headers, footers, and other dynamic text in my documents. Unfortunately, there is currently no way to specify an empty or null output when a text variable evaluates to nothing. Instead, InDesign inserts the last used value or some default text. This forces me to manually adjust the layout or apply complex GREP styles to hide unwanted characters when the variable is empty.

   Please add an “Empty Output” option to the text variables feature that allows the variable to output nothing at all when it has no value. This would be extremely useful for workflows where certain sections of a document may not always require a running header, chapter title, or other dynamically generated text. It would also reduce the need for tedious manual cleanup or workarounds using nested styles.

   An “Empty Output” option would make text variables much more flexible and improve the quality and efficiency of our layouts. Thank you for considering this feature request. Given how critical text variables are for long document workflows, I hope you will prioritise this enhancement.

4. Would like to add a separate gradient applied just to text, not related to textframe, just to the word (or any textcharacter)

   I would like to apply a gradient to characters and words only, not related to the textframe in which they are printed.

   If I have one or a few words in a gradient designed, and due to a textedit the word flows to the other (or a previous) line, the gradient appears different than how I designed it.

   At this time it is either only related to the textframe, or I'd have to convert the text to outlines.

   Or, as a workaround I can take the word out, place it in a separate textframe, apply the gradient, and place it as a linked frame in the text. That is way to much work.

   A separate item to make it possible to apply the gradient of choice just to any character (and word) would be very welcome.

5. Create paragraph style from manual formatting and apply to all text with the same formatting

   A common task is converting manual text formatting to a paragraph style. It would be great if there were a way to do this automatically.

   For example, suppose I was given a LONG document in which Helvetica 12pt text is the body style, but no actual paragraph style exists for this—all the formatting is manual.

   The current best way to solve this problem is to perform a Find/Change operation for all text formatted as Helvetica 12pt and replace it with my paragraph style for "body text." This works but is tedious, especially when there are many styles in the document, and all the formatting options have to be manually selected.

   It would be much better if there were an option, presumably in the paragraph styles panel menu, to automatically:

   1. Create a new paragraph style based on the formatting of the selected text
   2. Search the document for all text formatted in the same way
   3. Apply the paragraph style to each of those paragraphs

   A real time-saver!

   Would be ideal if this feature could detect character style exceptions (variations in italics, color, weight) and extract/apply those as well.

6. Put the Overset text warning directly at the beginning of the export file process

   When I want to export a PDF, InDesign kindly reminds me of overset text or missing links. However, I do not understand why this warning appears at the very end, after I have gone through the file location selection and PDF export settings. Obviously, I want to correct this error in 95% of cases. Instead, I have to cancel the export, then go through the entire process again. The file location, file name, and any PDF export settings I might have changed are lost, and I have to start all over again.

7. Allow GREP functions embedded in Paragraph Styles to 'soft' replace text

   GREP functions in paragraph styles are powerful and let you find and style text automatically - but they don't let you stylistically 'replace' it. It would be very helpful for example to replace 'and' in Title Style to '&' or to add custom dingbats and company logos in place of 'company name'.

8. Add an option to hide Text via caracter format setting

   Add a checkbox to the character format settings that allows users to hide text. In some situations it is very useful to use grep rules to hide certain text elements. Until now, the color of the font had to be removed and had to set the size to 0.1.

9. AI agent for remembering text content style

   I often work with instruction manuals that have been poorly translated, and I need to reword them so they read clearly and professionally. A lot of the content is similar across different jobs, and I’d like to stay consistent with how I’ve written things in the past without having to dig through old files manually.

   It would be great if InDesign had an AI agent that could:

   Learn my style and remember my text preferences (e.g. whether I use “kg” or “KG”).

   Automatically reference past projects so I don’t have to copy/paste from older manuals and allow me to ask questions (e.g if I have written something similar before).

   Allow me to give it a database of text I may need to reference a lot (e.g generic safety warnings. Bonus points for the ability to group by product or specific uses)

   Remember the style and layout of these types of text. (e.g if something would normally be written as a heading with a certain paragraph style)

10. Add "don't show again" option to error box

    See attached image.

    "Invalid indent value. Indents cannot extend outside text frame."

    I'd love to be rid of it, since it just appears when I hit the button one too many times.

11. More options for importing text styles

    Please add extra options (in the screenshot), the two I would mostly love is only keep bold and italic styles.

    Have a lot of text every day to import from word, with lots of bold and italic noted words.

    I think a lot of people would love this feature!

12. Set the baseline of the first line of an object to the actual height of the first line of text

    There is no standard in fonts what to use for the value of ascend. Some use the height of, say, the 'k' character. Others enter the highest glyph (including those with diacritics). Basically, that means that using ascend for the first baseline is unreliable if fonts change. The best solution would be to calculate the actual 'max glyph height' of what is actually on the first line so that the text fits exactly to the top of the frame. Using 'cap height' is not a prefect solution too as some fonts have a cap height that is smaller than e.g. the height of that 'k' character.

13. Text Wrap path Selection

    If we lock the Text Layer if it’s above the Objects’ Layer that has graphic elements on it, and we want to “Wrap” an object from that layer, we can see the Wrap Path which is Editable by Pen Tool & Direct Selection Tool,
    When Wrap Path is active and then we want to select just an anchor point by making a marquee selection from outside (like Illustrator) to select a single anchor point the path disappears and we see disappeared path even mouse click button is pressed, every time we will have to click on the anchor point to select it which is difficult and wastage of time.

17. Put Distribute Spacing icons in the Control Bar

    I use these controls along with the align controls every day. There's no reason they can't be grouped together with the align controls in the control bar.

    I keep all my tool palettes on a second monitor, so the Align buttons in the control bar are 30" away from the Distribute Spacing icons in the Properties panel of the second monitor.

18. Please fix text boxes after accepting a PDF comment

    When importing PDF comments and accepting the markup/comment, the text box becomes unresponsive until you click off and back on multiple times. This has been an unaddressed bug for years. I am working on a catalogue with over 1,000 comments, this is going to double the time it takes to work on each page. Please fix this bug

19. It should be possible to turn on or turn off “Respect indents” in the Text Wrap Options.

    For a long time InDesign did not respect the indenting of block quotes when text wrap was applied to photos. Then last year I was working on a big book with many indented quotes and many photos and was pleased to see the indent was respected when I set a text wrap around a photo. Now, in the latest version, that is no longer the case. This is a serious problem in large illustrated books with many block quotes. We should have the choice in the Text Wrap box of specifying whether the wrap should respect block quote indents or not, and preferably we should have the choice for the left side of the text and for the right.

20. Create a text variable window to see and edit values faster

    Right now you have to open each variable independently. Then if you want to change the value you have to save and exit each variable. Also you have to open each variable to see the value.

    Please create a Text Variable Window with two columns. One for the Name the other for the value. This way we can see the variable and edit the variable. Add the add icon, and add duplicate variable icon.
