  1. Set asset path base location in preferences

Allow the user to set the base relative path location in preferences instead of having them set to absolute all the time. This will allow complete folder structures within Create Cloud Folders to be shared to other user without all the assets link breaking all the time and will avoid the need to send packaged files all the time.

  2. Add the ability to Find/Replace linked images across multiple documents

The ability to Find/Replace links would be helpful, especially across multiple documents.

For example, if I have 20 instances of a.jpg on 10 documents, I would like the ability to be able to find all instances and replace with b.jpg without have to manually go into each document and do it one by one.
    Thanks.

  3. Major problem with image links

When I click on an image, the link in the links-window does not show. Note: there's nothing embedded. I'm encountering this all the time and it's very very time-consuming. How can this major problem exist in a software where placing images is really what you do with it all day layouting?
I really wonder what we pay the monthly fees for when even the most basic stuff is far from working properly.
Why is Indesign CC detoriating compared to CS6, though we pay more money?
What are the Updates and the cloud really for?

    Why this is valuable to…

  4. Allow Custom Cell Padding on Imported Spreadsheets

When importing excel or spreadsheets (.xls), Indesign CC automatically sets the cell padding on top/bottom as 0.0556" (or equivalent). There is currently no way to set default cell padding when Indesign is open without any publications/files open, nor is there an option when importing a document/spreadsheet.

Either allow for imported cell padding to be listed within the 'Show More Options" within the import screen, or allow for a global default cell padding to be entered into Indesign.

When publishing files that pull or link cell data from excel, each time the excel file is updated, it is a VERY manual…

  5. ADD Large Format sizing, as you do with Illustrator

My idea is as simple as just being able to produce layout sizes bigger than current 216 inch limit, for being able to layout billboards, wall graphics, etc.

The link feature and linked art boxes are able to move and crop graphics much more fluid, and also, typesetting in InDesign much more powerful than Illustrator. It's simply faster to produce a mock-up and final art in Indesign and it's easier to make corrections as well.

  6. Increment Settings for Tracking/Kerning Applied to Control Panel Interface

Idea referenced in the link below.

This idea is already implemented in the preferences menu under Units & Increments but it's only applied to keyboard shortcuts. I don't see why this setting wouldn't be included for the tracking and kerning settings in the control panel. As mentioned in the link, needing to let go of the mouse just to adjust tracking is a nuisance.

I never increase tracking by 10 when typesetting to adjust for the rag of a text block. Having the increments hard set to 10 effectively makes the control panel useless to me when typesetting. Oddly…

  7. Show cross-reference destination document in the cross-ref panel

I work with a lot of guides and need to use a lot of cross-references in my files. When these files later get used as a base for new files and saved under different names, or content is copy-pasted from one file to another, the cross-references point to the old (wrong) destination. I know you can select a cross-ref and change its destination document from the palette menu, but first you need to know that there is such wrong reference, but it is difficult when the cross-reference colour indicator is green and you think everything is fine. I would love…

  8. Google Photos and Docs Integration

It would be great if you could place photos or text from Google services - Google Photos, Google Docs, Google Drive. InDesign would simply need to integrate the Google APIs for those services, then it would be seamless to import these objects - better yet would be supporting of links, so edits to Docs could be updated in InDesign the same way changed photos show update status of linked photos.

  9. It would be very helpful if, when re-linking missing links, the WHOLE of the filepath appeared along the top of the window.

It would be very helpful if, when re-linking missing links, the WHOLE of the filepath appeared along the top of the window. At present I only see the start and end of the path, which often isn't enough to identify it.

  10. Convert graphics from RGB to CMYK

I use InDesign for a lot of print layout, and often graphics used/supplied (stock, photographs, etc.) are in RGB format. But for print I need these in CMYK format, and since ideas for which graphics to use and layouts change often before finalization I wait until the final OKs are given before converting graphics to CMYK.

The way I see this working is through the "Links" tab, although perhaps it could be done through the "Package..." function. In the Links tab, it would give me the option of right-clicking an RGB file and within that popup menu…

  11. Relative path to linked excel tables and images

I have folders structure for my engineering report. I want to use it for other projects too. So I need possibility to set relative paths for linked tables and pictures to have possibility to copy whole report structure to the new place and repeate all calculations and make new report. Now I have to copy structure, rename old project folder to force InDesign to take new project folder, open new report book, update all links, save new report book with all documents. Restore name of old project folder.

  12. Improve Preflight

Isn’t it about time for an update and some enhancements to this great feature? Some suggestions:

    1. Change the default Preflight Profile to something realistic for quality printing. The absence of warnings is misleading, making people think that everything is fine.
    2. Divide the check for “Protected fonts” into two categories: 1. Fonts which do not allow embedding in PDF, 2. Activated Adobe fonts (the existing behaviour of flagging Adobe fonts as “not allowed” causes a lot of confusion)
    3. Change the wording “Transparency not allowed” to just “Transparency” Transparency is rarely a problem nowadays, though it is still good to check whether…

  13. Bring master page "to front"

I wanted to know if there's a way to use the auto page number feature on top of images. I'm creating a children's book that has images on all the pages. I want to number the pages, but since it sits on the master page, it's always behind the images. Is there a way to bring master page items to the front without breaking the link to their auto-ness?

  14. Add ability to add multiple header rows to tables

I would like to be able to add multiple header rows (or something along those lines) to tables so that a table style would be reapplied from that row onward. This would allow alternating fills to always begin on the same color after a header. This feature would be especially handy when adding a row to an existing table as only the fills under the current section of the table you're working on would change. Additionally this table would then be one single table instead of multiple linked tables, allowing changes to any formatting such as column width to…

  16. Leave links in the CC library when packaging a document.

Many of my links in my InDesign documents point to a shared CC library. So that I don't have to resend all the data when I package the document, it would be good to have a function that leaves the links of the document in the CC library and only collects the images that are not in the CC library.

  17. Allow Extensis Suitcase to Connect to Adobe Fonts Subscription

I understand that this isn't a specific InDesign feature request, but I can't seem to find any way to put in a feature request for Adobe Fonts.

Until, and unless, Adobe decides to create a full-featured font management software package, it would be great if for subscribers of Extensis Suitcase that we could link our Adobe account to access fonts from within Suitcase much the same way we can access Google fonts.

  18. Syncing Redlines from Adobe Asset Cloud to InDesign

Syncing Redlines from Adobe Asset Cloud to InDesign - Noticing that the asset cloud link has the ability to redline and comment, but the redlines do not come over on the InDesign side with the asset link as they do when you import Adobe comments/redlines. This feature would be hugeeee for our industry to have. Also, using the asset link feature live has crashed indesign a couple times.

  19. Add features to draft legal briefs

Legal filings are just complicated, cross-linked books.

Lawyers have to follow court rules when typesetting appellate briefs.
    See e.g., http://www.ca2.uscourts.gov/clerk/case_filing/rules/rules_home.html
    https://www.supremecourt.gov/filingandrules/rules_guidance.aspx

WordPerfect has a few useful features: see "Legal Toolbar" https://www.wordperfect.com/en/product/professional-edition/#features

You should add a feature to create a Table of Authorities (ToA). The ToA lists each authority cited along with every page on which it is cited. The ToA has different sections for different kinds of authorities, e.g., cases, statutes, etc.

The best way would be to have InDesign identify authorities/citations. Most lawyers follow the Bluebook. https://www.legalbluebook.com/default.aspx
Others follow the RedBook or the MaroonBook.

    Make selecting, dragging,…

  20. Application Menu Search (Windows)

I know this is an operating system thing, but after switching to Windows from Mac, I'm missing the search bar under the Help menu. I made a suggestion on the Windows Feedback Hub, but it doesn't seem to be getting much traction there. Unless I'm missing something, there's got to be others of you missing this functionality. Here's a link to my Windows Feedback Hub request. Go there and upvote! https://aka.ms/AAdvidk
