  2. Duplicating pages in InDesign - but not at the end of a document

When duplicating pages in Indesign they always appear at the end of the document. We should be able to select where in the document we want the pages to be added, as we do when inserting new pages.
So, 'Duplicate Pages''; "Insert Before/After page XX" etc

  3. name pages

Due to their size the thumbnails in the pages palette often give little indication of their content, which makes finding pages difficult. If users could name pages and the names would be displayed in the panel next to the page number, that would make this task way easier.

  4. Facing Pages for Spiral Binding

Having the ability to see multiple pages together, without them connected in the center would be helpful for creating things like spiral bound books. This would allow bleeds for each page, while still being able to see the pages together for layouts. This feature would come in handy for more than just spiral bound projects. It would be handy any time you need to see two pages together, while still having bleeds for each page.

  5. Hiding Pages in a Document

It would be helpful to hide pages in a way similar to hiding columns in Excel. I don't want the information gone, I just need to minimize it so I can focus on the specific pages I need. Accessing this action via a right click in the pages menu would be ideal.

  6. Show Masterpages overrides.

There's no way you can tell that someone did alter or remove MasterPage-items on a document page. You should add a little + sign next to the page icon in the Pages panel. Just like altered Paragraph Styles.

  7. Add ability to "name" individual pages just like we can name Illustrator artboards

We often use InDesign to build & export a collection of project assets, same workflow as using/exporting a series of multiple artboards in Illustrator. The ability to 'name' artboards in Illustrator and then batch export those artboards automatically passing their names into the exported filenames is awesome. Would love for InDesign to have that same ability.

  8. Make it obvious in the Page palette when a page dimension has been changed with the Page tool

In a multi-page doc, it is not obvious when the dimensions of individual pages have been changed with the Page tool.

This can waste time or at worst be disastrous if a document at the wrong size is inadvertently sent to print.

I suggest some kind of colour tint or bright border to page thumbnails to clearly identify when a page dimension has changed from the document’s core dimensions.

  9. Update Book panel

Please update the Book files to work more like FrameMaker.

For example, one can group files together, use folders (to treat separate files as one chapter), set the pagination settings separate for each file (start on right, start on next, make page count even, etc.)

InDesign hasn't had any major long document feature updates for some time. (Endnotes doesn't count as a long document feature since they do not currently work for a book. <g>)

  10. Relative Link Paths for InDesign

At this company we work in teams on many project simultaneously along with a massive server of shared assets. Talking to my colleagues in other companies this is quite a common thing these days. We mostly work off of InDesign for the majority of our projects. As InDesign uses linked files for composition/layout, we keep our server organized. All IDD files are worked from directly off of our server, no files are stored on any person's computer locally.

We don't need to package everything (only rarely, for sharing to external entities) because all of the content already exists on the…

  11. Duplicate Page, without the new page jumping to the end of the doc. This is valuable since I need to print doublesided-same art

Duplicate Page, without the new page jumping to the end of the doc. This is valuable since I need to print doublesided-same art. Page1-2 is one same card; Pg 3-4 on same card, etc.

  12. Vertical Facing Pages

A document pages setup option for vertical facing pages for things like calendars, and other types of documents would be really helpful.

  13. Can Idml file open with his own name

When I open .idml file in InDesign, it opens as Untitled-# document. Is it possible that when I open .idml it opens as the filename instead of "Untitled-#"? Because I have received some many idml files, I am spending time save as file into INDD.

    Closed: Fixed  ·  Anonymous responded

Hi All, this feature is now added in the latest version of InDesign i.e. InDesign 13.1.

You can upgrade your InDesign to get access to this feature.

    Regards
    Javed

  14. Exclude Pages from Page Count

Please include an option to exclude certain pages of a document from the page count. I work with a lot of proposals that have page counts, but things like covers, table of contents, and tabs do not count. It's hard to keep track of the "counted" pages and having to go in and change the numbering every time I delete or insert a page. It would be great if you could right click on pages and say "exclude from page count" and the page count would continue on the next page.

  15. The KEYBOARD INCREMENTS part of Units and Increments preferences should application level not document level.

I have to go into this panel multiple times a day to change this from 2 to 1.
It should be application level, because it all relates to how much I expect text to move when using keyboard shortcuts. Or at least let me toggle it or override.
I think this is like if my custom keyboard shortcuts were document level and I had to set them back up every time I got a file made by someone else.

  16. Make page dimensions from Page Tool and Page Setup match

I'll often have to change the size of page using the Page Tool. The problem is that if anyone opens the Document Setup dialogue box, it only shows what the original dimensions of the page are – not the actual dimensions.

When there are multiple pages in a document with various sizes, the Document Setup dialogue window should notify that that's the case.

  17. Name spreads for export

When we export as png or other formats from indesign we always have to rename all our exported pages and spreads. Over and over again if we make changes and export again. Why cant we have the option to give a spread or a page a defined name for export. Example, I always have to rename documentname(15) to banner_560x500 and does this on all 15 exports. Please look into it ❤️

  18. Adjust book cover spine

Please give us back the former option of layout adjustment (see screen capture) !!
It was so simple and so easy to change page format and objects adjusted well !
For exemple when doing a book cover :
before, you could change the page width of the spine, and if there was a colored frame on it, its width would adjust too (but not the height if the height of the page didn't change)
Now, if you change the page width, the object is scaled (height and width) wich is absolutely counter productive : now you must manually rescale and…

  19. XML Import URL

    Hello,
it would be nice if there was an invocation of an xml-file by url. It's time for InDesign to look to the future.

  20. Ignore pasteboard

I would like to "ignore pasteboard" when running spell-check. Often I have extra text on the pasteboard that I don't want to delete, but I don't want to wade through while spell-checking.

Related to that -- it would be great if we could indicate certain frames we don't want to spell check. I do publications that have long lists of names that take forever to work through. I don't need to spell check them. Or maybe an "ignore capitalized words" function could do that.

These would be enormously helpful to editors! Thanks.
