IDML file exported from InDesign CC 2025 moves objects randomly
A file exported from InDesign CC 2025 and imported to CC 2024 is corrupted. Some objects (page numbers on parent pages) are randomly relocated. This is pathetic.
2 votesWe would require more information on this.
Is this happening with all files or some specific files?
Are only page numbers getting relocated or other elements as well?
Is this happening with only parent page objects or with objects on normal pages as well?
An screenshot of indd and idml would also help.
Please share your OS version.

Navigating through pages with keyboard shift page up / page down jumps multiple pages Indesign V19.x and 20.0
Navigating through pages with keyboard shift + page up/down was already flaky in the last couple versions of Indesign jumping two pages at once, especially after opening a document. With version 20.0 it now jumps two and sometimes three pages at once and even back when it should go forward. Sometimes navigating stalls completely and ID is "thinking" for several seconds before it jumps huge amounts 10-20 pages or completely at the end /beginning of the document. This behaviour is not seen when navigating via the pages palette.
The documents in question do not have large media files linked where previews have to be updated, they are mostly text on landscape 16:9 pages (think of presentation slides)

2 votesWe would need more info on when you are using shift + page up/down key and what is the expectation. Are you using these when in Presentation mode?
Using page up/down key, does not solve the purpose?

Footnotes do not honor "keep" settings
Title says it all. If a footnote paragraph style contains "keep" settings and split footnotes are enabled, footnotes ignore the keep settings. It should be possible to (a) allow split footnotes, and (b) stipulate that at least two lines must be carried over to the second page, but this is not possible. Keeps are ignored.

Screen tearing while scrolling
I'm having issues with screen tearing in InDesign 2023 and 2024. I've tried resizing UI, testing an earlier version of InDesign (hence 2023), making sure my computer was set to best performance over battery saver, etc. Inevitably when I scroll around, lines of text will jump around or break. I'm operating a brand new windows 11 computer with 16gb of RAM, and this is a two page InDesign document with one image, so...

merged cells cause missing stroke when reopening or importing document
Versions InDesign 2024, InCopy 2024, InCopy 2022, InDesign 2022
Steps to reproduce:
- Open InCopy
- Make a new document
- Insert a 4x4 table
- select table and set all strokes to zero width
- enter text in col2:row3, col2:row4, col4:row3, col4:row4
- make the bottom edge stroke of col2:row3 4 points thick and color black
- make the bottom edge stroke of col4:row3 4 points thick and color 100% cyan
- save and close the document
- open the document and observe strokes are intact
- merge col3:row4 with col4:row4
- set text in last cell of rows 3 and 4 to align right
- save and close document
- reopen document and observe the cyan line is missingThe attached video proves it in InCopy 2022, but the same happens in version 2024.
The CYAN stroke is also missing when the files are brought into InDesign.
The ICML shows the correct BottomEdgeStrokeColor and BottomEdgeStrokeWeight
The attached video shows the steps.

screen redraw
InDesign 18.x through 19.5. Mac, Apple Silicon, M1 Max w/ 96 GB RAM and at least 1 TB free storage, M3 Max w/128 GB Ram and at least 1 TB free storage.
Basically, sometimes the screen becomes “corrupted” and weirdly glitched. Closing the file and reopening fixes it, but that is not acceptable when it is super frequent. Which it is.
This has been a problem for over a year, across multiple full InDesign versions. It happened on my M1 MacBook Pro, and still happening on my M3.
Typically these documents involved a placed PDF page that itself is a scanned document, usually at something like 300 dpi. I am trying to do a typed text block on top of and/or adjacent to it.
(This has been a huge source of grief, makes me think about switching to another app for these kind of layout needs. Given that I have been using InDesign since before it first shipped, that would make me sad.)

Certain dialogue boxes appear partially off screen and can't be moved back on screen
Certain dialogue boxes appear partially off screen and can't be moved back on screen. For example, the Find/Change dialogue box and the Export dialogue box [specifically export to PDF (Print)] have both become almost unusable for me because important sections of those two boxes are located off screen. See attached screenshots. Dialogue boxes that allow you to expand them by clicking and dragging the edges/corners of the box are less of an issue - they often appear partially off screen, but once they're expanded at all, the whole dialogue box pops back into view. The Find/Change and Export dialogues do not allow this kind of expansion so that trick does not work for them. I've tried all the fixes that I've seen suggested for this issue online, including restarting my computer and changing the resolution of my displays, but none have worked. I've even updated to Windows 11 and that didn't fix it. I am using InDesign 2024 version 19.5 on Creative Cloud Desktop. There are currently no updates available for InDesign.

Duplicated characters ONLY IN PDF EXPORT!
The following process creates a bug,
which only appears when exporting to PDF:1) Write a few words (in Hebrew) and add 2 footnotes
2) Set 'No break' to one of the characters between the 2 footnote references
Bingo!
Only it the PDF will the bug appear -
The character (comma\colon\letter) after the first comment - is doubled!!!In InDesign everything looks normal!
You only discover the mistake in the PDF/after printing!!2 votes -

Pinch gesture in macbook changes size of selected image instead of zoom
While working on a macbook air m3, you can use the pinch gesture to zoom in and out of the page, put when you select and image in a box (orange outline) and then use the pinch gesture while your cursor is hovering over any part of the image, even parts that are out of the frame/box, it changes/transforms the size/dimensions of the image instead of zooming. While the image is still selected and you move you cursor away from the image the zoom then works.
The attached video shows how using the the pinch gesture zooms in and out until I select the image in the box, and then it scales it instead but once the cursor is no longer over the image, goes back to zooming.

Adding a footnote to the first line of a story adds extra space beneath the second line of a story if line 3 is set to split columns.

Bug: blank lines between footnotes when aligned to baseline grid
Found a serious bug in which aligning footnotes to the baseline grid adds blank lines between footnotes, even if the paragraph style has no space before/after, the leading is smaller than the baseline grid increment, and the footnote options specify no space before or between notes. This is breaking my workflow and I can't find a way around it without deselecting "align to baseline grid," which causes other problems.

Preferences: Type: Use of Typographer’s Quote reset to off
- Adobe InDesign 14.0.3
- Create or open a document with Use of Typographer’s Quote checkbox ticked. Copy/Paste text from a document (Word, TextEdit) into the InDesign document. Note that the resetting of the Preferences doesn't happen all the time, only sometimes and I haven't been able to narrow it down to a certain context.
- The pasted text should use Typographer’s Quote according to the Preferences.
- The quotes from that pasted text use straight quotes instead, and when opening the Preferences, the checkbox is now unticked.
Note: I've encountered this bug in previous versions of InDesign from CS5 up to the current version I'm using (14.x).

OpenType mark positioning messed up when using bidi text with Thaana font
The font uses ccmp feature to build dotted glyph from base glyphs.
When a LTR character comes into question, these glyphs are rendered incorrectly.

Error with InDesign (Beta): "Some files required for color management are missing"
Hi, when I start the just-released InDesign (Beta) on Windows ARM, I get the error "Some files required for color management are missing. Please re-install the application to ensure proper functioning".
I've uninstalled and reinstalled, and have used the Creative Cloud Cleaner, but it doesn't resolve the issue. InDesign seems to be running OK even after getting the error, so it's more of a nuisance than anything. I may run into some issues in future with color management though.
- Adobe InDesign (Beta) 19.5 x64 (Mainline CI #09013C9)
- Launch InDesign
- InDesign should start without any errors.
- The error message in the attached screenshot appears.

Character style based running header text variable does not pick up character styles applied by nested line styles
As with Grep styles the text variable character style is not found when it is created using Nested Line Styles. This means I have to use normal nested styles and add end nested style markers into the text. Not ideal or as fully automatic as I would like.
