Footnote references not fully displaying all digits
InDesign 18.0
After updating the file type for the new InDesign 2023, I noticed that my footnote reference markers were not displaying correctly in the footnotes themselves: the second digit is always missing. So for example, if the footnote number is 35, only the 3 is displayed. If the number is 128, only the 1 and 8 are displayed (with a blank in the middle). This is taking place even after converting to .idml.
My colleague with 17.4 opened the same .idml and it is displaying correctly. The first screenshot is from him showing what it is supposed to look…

Export with spread option ignores page range
I've got an InDesign document with a 6 page spread.
When I export to pdf and select the spread option with a page-range of page 3-6, page 1 and 2 are also included. This happens in InDesign 17.4 en 18. Not sure about older versions.

Why does ID now need new filetype with every yearly release?
I don't remember ID needing a new filetype with every release in the past. A (perhaps cynical) part of me says new filetypes are designed to incentivize users to upgrade. This drive for new filetypes every year seems especially capricious when fundamental new ID features are few and far between over the past 5+ years. (Ex: one of the top billed features last year was renaming Master pages to Parent pages...)
New filetypes with every release is a source of friction to my team, especially when several users work on a project and one or more suddenly find they can…

Placed illustrator files keep showing as modified
When I place illustrator files in Indesign they show as modified even when closed from illustrator. I update and within a minute it shows as modified again. Very annoying. This is a new behavior on M1 mac studios, Monterey, working from a Mac file server which worked as expected previously with Intel imacs. Please fix ASAP. Thanks

Endnotes in ePub use identical id's where an id should be Unique
When InDesign 18.0 and earlier versions make a reflowable ePub, the endnotes cause the file to be rejected when checked by https://www.ebookit.com/tools/bp/Bo/eBookIt/epub-validator. The reason: each endnote reference is embedded in a span with an id twice, and the name or identifier of that id is the same. In HTML (which is the construct of an ePub) each id should be unique. You cannot have a HTML file with two elements with the same id-name. The next line can be found at the endnote reference, but a similar thing coccurs on the backlink, back from the endnote text to the…

.idlk files not recognized/ignored when .indd files are in a Dropbox directory
InDesign 2023 v18.00
.idlk files are not recognized when working from a shared Dropbox folder. This issue appears to be very extensive and well documented. While I understand the many different use cases (synced/not synced, not connected to the internet, etc..) It would just make sense for InDesign to check for .idlk files within Dropbox directories and let Dropbox/Users figure out the potenetial for syncing errors and find a solution when those issues arise. This causes very frustrating issues for collaborative teams.

Capitalisation of letters b and i triggering the command prompt to bold and italicise copy
Issue being experienced on Adobe InDesign 2023 version 17.4 (and previous version), using MacOS Monterey v12.6.
When using shift + b or shift + i commands in indesign to create capital B or capital I, the command is instead acting as I would expect if I were to key in CMD + B or CMD + I in Microsoft or code - it is changing the font to 'Semibold' (shift + B) and 'Book italic' (shift + I) and not capitalising the letter.
The issue can be replicated reliably across all fonts loaded.
Please can this be investigated?

Importing PDF comments slow down the UI, making impossible any edit.
- Indesign 18.0 (Issue appeared in 17.3)
- Import a PDF with comments.
- Ability to work and move on the page with no issue.
- Big lag and stutter, making impossible any edit.
- A video of the issue, the project file and the PDF with comments
It's not possible to upload the test file here, so here's wetransfer :

InDesign 18.0 (2023): still having issue where certain weights of fonts won't load/work (other weights/styles in the family do work).
The only way I've been able to solve this is to revert to version 17.1 (had same issue with 17.2).

InDesign and PDF comments: extremely slow
- Version of Adobe InDesign V 18.0
- Importing the PDF comments to indesign, some tags when selected, makes the program extremely slow, taking several minutes to release the indesign again.
- The expected result would be that it was a matter of seconds and not minutes.
- The basic ones work very well, but markings like geometric figures and annotations make the indesign very slow.
- And here's a link to a video to see how you need to switch from one appointment to another: https://www.dropbox.com/s/jzxsh7t9ci0a8y1/teste.mp4?dl=0

Share for Review - Interactive PDF 'Jump to Page' feature not working
Hey,
I have a contents page in my Interactive PDF, that when you click an item on it, it jumps to the corresponding page in the PDF. However, on the Share to Review site, it jumps to the wrong page - always to the page after the one that it should jump to. When I export the PDF normally, it functions as expected, it is only on the Share to Review site that it doesn't work.
Was wondering if a fix could be found for this, as we are having to explain this to clients every time we send a…

GREP Tab Issue
I created a GREP style to make Title Caps part of the style and I needed it to do this after a tab. That wouldn't work, but I got it work backwards.
An unexpected side effect is that when you copy and paste from the PDF I created, it makes every letter next to "T" also capitalized. It's treating the shortcode for tab "\t" like it's trying to hone in on "T" and also like tab. It looks fine until you copy and paste.

Page number truncated exporting to PDF (when using HarfBuzz and World-Ready Composer)
Summary: When using HarfBuzz and the World Ready Composer, automatic fields such as the current page number are truncated to their first character when exporting to PDF.
Steps to reproduce the problem:
1. Enable HarfBuzz rendering mode. (Script: app.textPreferences.shapeIndicAndLatinWithHarbuzz = true;)
2. Create a new document.
3. Add a text frame.
4. In the text frame, insert a marker for the current page number. (Type > Insert Special character > Markers > Current page number.)
5. Set the paragraph justification to use Adobe World Ready Composer.
6. Change the page numbering in some way so that the page number will…3 votes -

Output settings don't appear to be saved in Adobe PDF presets anymore in Indesign 17.4
I rely on Adobe PDF Presets in Indesign. In version 17.4, it appears that output settings saved in custom presets are not observed anymore. I had a preset for low res pdfs with colour settings in output set to RGB values for online viewing. Worked great for years. Now I have to go in and turn off "all spots to Process" all the time.

[ID-4236204]Using “Paragraph Borders and Shading” on frame grid, it is incorrect to base them on grid attributes possessed by the frame grid
InDesign Version CC2018 or newer
“Paragraph Borders and Shading” are usually generated based on the outline of the glyphs in the paragraph to which they are applied.
This is true even if they are grid-aligned on a text frame (Figure 1-a, right).
However, when the same settings are made on a frame grid, for some reason, they are generated based on the grid attributes of the frame grid, not the glyph outlines.
This always occurs based on the grid attribute of the frame grid, regardless of whether the text in the frame grid is grid-aligned or not (Figure 1-a left).…

thumbnail publish online
Publish online thumbnails extend off the right hand side of the browser window and cover the button for forward navigation through the thumbails. This means that the only way to navigate to the desired page is by clicking through page by page, or by resizing the browser window and clicking quickly before the thumbnails have time to respond and cover the button.
I don't know if this is a bug since it's my first time using publish online but if it isn't, there certainly needs to be a better way to navigate through a long document, like a book. For…
