1. InDesign 2025 IDML File cannot be placed into InDesign 2024

   When saving a document created / edited in InDesign 2025 as an IDML, the resulting IDML file cannot be placed into an InDesign 2024 document.

   The error dialog states "Cannot place this file. No filter found for requested operation."

2. Layers not exporting properly to PDF (v20.0 2025)

   Before the 20.0 2025 update I had a simple ID file with multiple layers. I exported with PDF 1.5 presets, Create Acrobat Layers checked and Export Layers: All Layers chosen. All layers visible in the PDF and opens up in AI as expected, with layers.

   Since the update, same file, same presets etc. I export and all layers still visible in Acrobat, but does not open in AI properly. Instead all laters in one layer, as paths.

3. InDesign 2025 can't read metadata from multiple images

   macOS 15.2, InDesign 20.0.1

   Problem: Metadata inside an image not being recognized by InDesign 2025.

   Details:

   Multiple images from different sources containing metadata that InDesign doesn't recognize
   Presence of metadata in XMP Description field verified in Bridge and via InDesign's Links panel XMP File Info command.
   Generating a Live Caption or Static Caption when using the Description field returns "<No data from link>".
   Setting Object Export Options > Alt Text Source to From XMP: Description results in "metadata property is not present on some selected content".
   When a PDF is generated using the images in question, the metadata is not passed through to the PDF, resulting in missing alt text accessibility errors.
   Manually writing (or copying and pasting) the metadata to the Alt Text Source as Custom works, but as does manually creating a caption, but automation is the point.

4. [ID-4263586] Adobe InDesign 2025 text justify buttons issue

   In the latest update of InDesign 2025 (as of writing this), there is a problem with the text justification buttons in the toolbar.

   Previously, you could click these buttons and then just keep typing into your currently active text frame, which is what one would expect from previous versions of InDesign.

   With the latest update, keyboard focus instead shifts over to these buttons, taking focus away from the text frame and your current text cursor position.
   This is completely useless, and makes it more difficult than it should be to, say, change the justification at a certain line of text and then keep typing or navigating the text in the frame.

   Would appreciate a fix for this, as it is causing severe interruptions to my workflow, and the feature/bug benefits no one.

5. Inset spacing no longer working after re-installing InDesign 2025

   I re-installed InDesign 2025 because some windows were blank ('Text Wrap', 'Paragraph' & 'Colour'). It solved that issue but developed a new issue - it wouldn't save. So I re-installed again without keeping any settings/preferences, this time it developed a new issue - Inset spacing no longer works.
   What is going on?

7. Data Merge Issue with Chinese Characters in Adobe InDesign 2025

   Steps to Reproduce the Issue

   Open Adobe InDesign and create a new document.
   Prepare a CSV file with Traditional Chinese text using UTF-8 encoding.
   Use the Data Merge feature to import the CSV file into InDesign.
   Place the merged data field into the document layout.
   Preview or finalize the merge.
   Expected Result

   The Chinese characters in the CSV file should be displayed correctly in the merged document without any distortion or encoding issues.
   Actual Result

   The Chinese characters appear as garbled text (random symbols or question marks) during the merge preview and in the final output.
   Switching to different fonts (e.g., TrueType, OpenType, or system default fonts) does not resolve the issue.
   Attempts with different encoding formats (UTF-8, UTF-16, etc.) and alternative CSV/text file formats (via Google Sheets, TextEdit) also fail.
   Upgrading to Adobe InDesign 2025 (20.0) Traditional Chinese version does not fix the issue.

8. Document made in InDesign 2024 no longer loads in InDesign 2025

   InDesign 2025 (v20.0)

   is unable to open a document (a 400 page book in one single file) that I finished a few days before updating InDesign. It was made using version 19.5. I've tried several versions of the book: both the last work file and a finished packaged version on a separate drive. I have also tried opening an older version before the latest changes with no luck.

   There are no error messages. It just starts loading it and then after a while, doesn't anymore. The book doesn't appear in the Open Recent list either even after several attempts and restarts. This is on an iMac Pro 2017.

   Reverting to version 19.5 and the book opens just fine.

   Fortunately the book is already being printed. So I guess I won't get fired. :)

   We would require more information for the same. Are you not able to open any InDesign document created from ID19.x version in ID20.0 or is it specifically happening with only a specific document?

9. AdjustLayoutPreference Object Properties Not Working in InDesign 2025 & 2026 Scripts

10. Links Not Auto Updating when Modified in InDesign 2025

    My workflow typically involves opening links from the InDesign document to edit by selecting the link from the Links panel and choosing Edit Original. In InDesign 2025, however, I've noticed that links are no longer updating whether it's a PSD or AI file and I assume other file types. This has never been the case before.

    I tried a test with a new file and placed two assets to the file. One was a PSD and the other was an AI. I then opened the links from InDesign, made an edit to each (one at a time), saved, closed, and went back to InDesign. Both links show up as modified with a warning in the preflight instead of updated.

    I thought the point of modifying links through InDesign was to avoid having to manually update all the links. I guess I'll just modify outside of InDesign and make the selection to update all on file open until this is fixed...

    My OS is Windows 10.

    InDesign 2025 (v20.0) is allowing me to open 2024 v19.5 files more than once. It doesn't seem to be an issue once the file is converted from 19.5 to 20.0 but it's concerning as I edit files made previously.

12. BUG: InDesign 2025–2026 forces pasted Illustrator vectors to embedded EPS

    Description:
    InDesign 2025–2026 frequently forces pasted Illustrator vector artwork to be placed as embedded EPS, even when the artwork is extremely simple (few paths, no effects, no transparency).

    When pasting from Illustrator, the following warning appears:
    “This command would create a large number of page items and would severely degrade performance. Data will be placed as embedded EPS.”

    After confirming the warning, the pasted object is no longer editable:
    - Ungroup is unavailable
    - Individual vector paths cannot be selected
    - Fill and stroke cannot be edited
    - The object cannot be used as an image frame

    Steps to Reproduce:
    1. Create a simple vector object in Adobe Illustrator (2–3 shapes, no effects).
    2. Copy the object.
    3. Paste into InDesign 2025 or 2026.
    4. The performance warning appears and the object is embedded as EPS.

    Expected Result:
    The pasted artwork should be converted into native, editable InDesign vector paths, as in earlier InDesign versions.

    Actual Result:
    InDesign forces the artwork to be placed as embedded EPS, making it non-editable.

    Additional Notes:
    - Occurs even when “Prefer PDF When Pasting” is disabled.
    - Occurs even when “Copy PDF to Clipboard” is enabled.
    - Clipboard settings are correctly configured.
    - The same artwork pastes correctly as editable vectors in earlier InDesign versions.

    This behavior worked correctly in earlier versions of InDesign and appears to be a regression.

16. Accessible PDF: Linked Figures mistagging

    Linking an image in 2026 and exporting it as a tagged PDF generates an unpleasant Tag structure.
    The structure now is:
    <Figure>
    --<Link>
    ----OBJR
    --Content

    Tags inside of <Figure> will normally ignored by any assistive technology. So the Link will not be present to the end user.

    This is a change to InDesign 2025 and before, where the tagging was properly:

    Please change toe behavior back to the way of InDesign 2025 an earlier.

17. Crop Marks not displaying correctly with indesign 2025

    My bleed is set to 10mm on all sides, and I've clicked to offset the crop marks by 10mm also. In the exported PDF though, the bleed amount is included but the crop marks show to cut at the bleed line rather than the cut line if that makes sense! See screenshot. Please help - need to submit signage artwork today and would only take 2 secs to do if this would work as it always has done in the past!!!

19. InDeisng 2025 windo resizing while working on project

    While working on a project the application window resizes itself automatically multiple times. Using a Macbook Pro M1.

20. Adobe InDesign 2024 and 2025 crash when pasting certain string into text box with particular font

    Hi, I’m a type designer and font delveloper (for more than 20 years) and have made a custom font (Latin) that makes extensive use of the Contextual Alternates feature (calt). Let's call the font FontXyz, it’s an OpenType CFF font (.otf).

    These are the steps that always cause InDesign to crash
    1: Text cursor is in an empty text box where my FontXyz is already set
    2: Pasting the string “1234,-”
    3: Crash

    I can prevent the crash by:
    a: Putting my cursor in between two spaces and then pasting the string “1234,-”
    b: Pasting the string without the “-”, thus pasting “1234,”

    The font has passed various validation tests (Fontbakery (even the “check-adobefonts” one), FontGoggles, Font Validator) and works without any issues in other MacOS apps (such as Microsoft Word, Pages, Figma and browsers).

    The crash occurs in Adobe CC InDesign 2024 and 2025
    I'm running MacOS 15.5
